Should PD Drop "The Real Driving Simulator" Slogan For The Next GT Game?

It's looking like Gran Turismo 7 might be called Gran Turismo Sport instead, & with that in mind; do you think they should also abandon their "Real Driving Simulator" slogan?

GT has had so much criticism leveled at it for not being entirely accurate in the physics department, & I cannot help but think that they've brought that criticism upon themselves by claiming that it's a realistic simulator on the box.

Do PD abandon that slogan, & go more simcade like DriveClub? Or do they try & take on the mighty physics of Project CARS & Assetto Corsa on PS4?

What do you think they should do?

...I think they should drop it. It's kinda pretentious, really, proclaiming to be "The Real" of anything. A small slice of humble-ness can go a long way, methinks.

And I believe the slogan was slapped on the cover by the marketing folks at Sony anyways. Isn't Japanese culture known for being somewhat modest and well-mannered? Or am i being insensitive again?
 
The new slogan will be: "Driving a real car is the next best thing"!
Adding: (This game is suitable for people who are learning or want to learn to drive in reality). :indiff:

No reason to drop it... it pretty much is a driving simulator not a racing simulator like pCARS. So as long as there is that much road cars, I preffer calling it a driving simulator.
 
Naming it Gran Turismo Sport would be a very bad marketing decision, so I doubt that will pan out. Maybe it's a spin-off, like Forza Horizon, but I doubt Polyphony has time for that. That said, I think the main series should remain "The Real Driving Simulator". It began as that and it should keep going as that. The main priority should be making the most out of that idea, and that means improving sounds, damage, and converting all those standards to at least Semi-Premium like they did for some of them in GT6.

Regardless, I doubt they'll change it and I don't really care that they're exaggerating their level of realism. Tons of games do.
 
Simply just calling it Gran Turismo(Reboot(not actually using Reboot)

Would be Far better than Gran Turismo 7 or Gran Turismo Sport.

The series needs a refresh so to speak so yeah.

Why does it need a reboot?
 
If anyone has taken any of the sports cars on street tires around any remotely curvy course, they would understand why it's called "The Real Driving Simulator." Some here who need no mention will make fun of the racing aspect, but it really doesn't need all that much work in that area to be up where GTR is/was. Just speeding up the bots some and making the field as tight as it is in GT6's Super GT events would go a long way towards that. Then PD has to make enough cars from one league to satisfy a full field without duplicates, but that's a whole nuther ball game.

Anyhow, keep it. The poll seems to agree.

Look at the current state of the game compared to its predecessors. I would be more than happy if pd took the game back to its roots. But seeing as they want to be taken seriously in the sim market it desperately needs to reinvent itself to be competitive there.

Honestly what @Arixant said he said it best.

Look at DMC series say what you want about the fifth game, but that fresh perspective might have done that series some good.

When you got some games that just need a reboot it really works for them A LOT.

Need for Speed in 2010 if not mistaken that was a Reboot for the series cause they had gotten crazy with the games before that.

Took it back to plain and simple 50 cars race against time to escape police, or just simple race, and it sold like crazy, and it was one of my favorites in a LONG TIME!

While the series could use a refresh, it doesn't need to "Reboot" to the title. This isn't some game with some deep storyline and characters, its just a Driving/racing game.

With inconsistent quality of the content ranging from car models that are now 10 years old, and horribly innacurate sounds to premium cars having varying levels of polys and tessellation , to me it seems like this is what PD needs.

On topic: Yes, the slogan needs to be dropped. PD really needs to rethink their direction; make it a pure motorsport sim or an open world driving game.

So somehow, a new name is suddenly supposed to tell people its improved? Considering this is still going to be made by PD, I highly doubt its gonna suddenly keep people from questioning if its still as terrible. You can change a name all you want, its not gonna guarantee that it isn't still going be woefully awful. If anything, the only thing that actually needs to be "Rebooted" is the part that far more people care about: The actual game itself.
 
Keep it. It's iconic and is a term that has always been associated with the series.
 
I'm not making a big deal about the name. What I really care is they speed up the bots as Tenacious D said.
That and a better online experience with dedicated servers something closer to iRacing.
 
Drop it, because of SRF (being forced on for some events and invisible in replays, seriously guys?). Instead use, "The Easy Driving Simulator."

God that's painfully true.

Honestly, I think they can drop "The Real Driving Simulator" tagline because there's numerous PC games that have better physics and more indepth than what GT has been. It may of been the real Driving Simulator back in early 2000's but times have really, really changed.

When it comes to the physics change wether to do to Driveclub-ish or AC, they need to do something. Driving in Driveclub is just pure fun no matter what car. The sounds, the feel, the sense of speed you get is really, really amazing, and it's the same with Assetto and Dirt Rally, even though they both very quickly tell me how much I suck.

But driving in GT has always felt stale. I remember when I first was playing GT3, even as a young kid, the cars felt like they're on stone wheels. There's no feeling of randomness or motion or fluidity, it just all feels very static and scripted.

GT does need a whole reboot imo to be taken as a serious competitor anymore, and not be known for the game that could have PS2 quality models on PS4.

Need for Speed didn't have a Storyline until NFS Underground 1 or 2 came about, and look what they did with that just started completely over at NFS: Undercover I believe.

Cause turns out it was a mess basically it's like if you let your room get out of control for too long it just turns into a Giant Mess.
 
Thing is, GT doesn't need anywhere near the amount of redoing that much older franchise had done to it. GT needs nothing more then to have the game itself fixed. No more of these things:

- Unnecessary crap that adds nothing to the gameplay or personalization
- Inconsistency overall (Standard cars, some cars having AES while the rest don't, missing cockpits in some cars while others have one of varying quality)
- Features that are optimistically promised only to either not be delivered at all or delayed. (Not all necessarily in control, but still should be carefully announced to take into consideration such possibilities)
- Online that is at times, useless and frustraiting to deal with (a massive deal to me since that's where I use to spend a lot of my time.)

simple as that. Frankly, I think a new name and ditching a slogan (which was never a product claim last I checked) are the least important things this series needs right now since frankly, no one cares about either if the suggestions and questions here on these forums are any indication. You can put on a slick name on this all you want, no will care about it nearly as much as they will whether this game is an actual improvement or another reason for a thousand more complaints.
