Should PD Fix Online Now?

Should PD concentrate all efforts in fixing online?

I think it must be in your setup at home or with your ISP. I am on a rural DSL system (15 miles from the nearest town) and am working with a wireless sytem within my home. My wireless access point is upstairs and my PS3 is downstairs at the other end of the house. The computer that sits next to my PS3 get a signal strength of about 50 to 70%, not the best in the world. My download/upload speeds run about 500 kbs on a 768 kbs DSL. It runs a little lower on my PS3. I have had no problems getting on in the International games so far - and the racing is great.

The only problem i'm having with online is the penalties(they work when they want to), which has been discussed to death.

Unfortunately cable is not an option for me, I still live at home, and my computer/modem is at the other end of the house to my PS3. If it's my fault, then I guess PD is doing an OK job with their connections, but private rooms are more essential than ever, they might lose customers on the full game if they don't know that private rooms are coming.

Maybe have a look at the powerline adaptors then. This is a link to the ones my mate in England got link. And here is a link to some here in Oz link. Another mate here in Oz said they are also available on eBay but I haven't looked into that avenue yet.

They should really Push Private Racing for NOW! Because by the time we do have Private racing GT5 would be out next month, Thus making Private racing still a glitch. So the faster the better the jump start for Full release of GT5

I don't see how they work or even what they are.

Agreed, if we don't get it soon, it won't come until the full GT5, and I'm sure none of the people playing the game would like that.

I'm actually pretty satisfied right now. Granted private/customizable rooms and damage would/will be nice I'm having a great time with GT5p, and using the IRC chat it's pretty easy to hook up with people you know and race together. Adding the world events and even cutting down the pro events has actually worked out nicely IMO, at least for NTSC it was quite hard to find people to race before at some times of day, that's not the case now.

Lag hasn't bothered me so much, I see it a lot especially in world events but to some extent there's not much PD can do about it, I'm sure they'll get their network code more efficient over time but there'll always be slow connections playing, I guess it could be more fussy about booting them out for it though, but then again they're paying customers too.

I played online for the first time ever and was a little dissappointed with the whole lag thing (eratic side to side car movement) but it was still fun.Just not the total imersive experience I thought it would be.If it wasnt for my cousin who told me it was lag, I thought the drivers were all on Crack!

It would be really nice of you, PD, if you gave us even a somekind of private room now. It doesn't have to be perfect from the start. Just the basics... then improve the quality and work with your own (slow) speed.

I thought that setting up a 'dmz' could present you with a security issue, it stands for 'de-militarised zone', I think the name speaks for itself? Pretty sure that upnp is the way to go

I see GT5 Prologue as an open beta. Every small change they do is just another strawberry on the cake. They don't need to fix anything for Prologue, PD has stated that this is just a test for a whole new world to them, online racing. So now they know the basics and can keep working on Gran Turismo 5. Every minute they put on GT5 Prologue from now on could aswell be put on GT5 to make that the best game ever!

I have no idea how hard it is to implement online features in games... but it seems that PD has not really got the hang of it.

There should never have been so much lag to begin with.. sure, a lot of it has to do with your own connection, but it seems that the netcode is/was poor.

Another thing.. the manual mentions that as a host you have a responsibility... I fully understand that a normal person would do their best to fulfill that responsibility.
But these days, it seems that 99% of the hosts just quit once the race begins, or right at the end of the race (just to tease) or when they are losing.
It just does not work.

And private rooms offcourse.. where you can just KICK anyone who cant behave.
