Should PD just make a NFS Underground game?

Now, I don't want to say PD should step down from the heavens and entertain competition with the NFS Underground franchise, which above all other titles that have come and gone solidified its presence in tuner car games.

BUT that doesn't mean the guy playing NFS Underground isn't going to hang up his neon underglows and fluzzy dice to play a game that's on the complete opposite side of the spectrum... GT5.

What every gearhead really wants (even guys that may casually play NFS Underground) is realism. Sure, arcadey action is fun for a while but it doesn't satisfy on the same levels GT does. GT5 doesn't offer a whole lot in the way of tuning, it's more function over style. We know this... but that still doesn't stop the guy with 100% tinted windows and NOS stickers on every conceivable surface of his car from wanting more. I'm sure we've all bounced between NFS Underground [X] and GT[X] at some point in our gaming careers.

So to me there seems to be an audience for a game with Gran Turismo realism but with NFS tuner options. No, don't say the F word... because what could result in a Gran Turismo Underground might actually blow everything out of the water. There is epic potential behind it...

Now it isn't entirely out of the question or unrealistic because I believe there is evidence that PD wants to dabble with the Underground scene (or at least an MMO platform or mode) and perhaps there are certain cars and certain tracks that were included in GT for this purpose. I understand that Kaz originally wanted a free roam track and I think some of us have sort of pieced together an SSR map that could fill that concept.

But a project like this really could be its own game. However, in typical PD fashion they're probably spread too thin to tackle it properly. It's a delicate concept because usually games like this live as long as their 1st impression. The first NFS:U was awesome but just never filled GT's shoes, but successful enough nonetheless. The first TXR was the first properly executed tuner game of its time and it spawned a respectable series with some good sequels. Unlike NFS:U, TXR did offer GT-like tuning and it was awesome!

I had always wanted to see a project like this from PD and I know the audience exists and have been wanting to see this too. Should they finally branch off a spin off game and just do it?

TLDR: A PD refined MC:LA? Would it affect GT negatively/positively? I'll be honest, I'd probably buy it. What about you?

Oh lol. I'm going to 22"s on my FGT with spinners and get some neon working down there.

Honestly speaking, I would buy it. It seems like a rad idea.

Yes, because Formula 1 cars are often included in street racing games.

???

One question. What in hell is TXR and TLDR? :ouch:
Acronyms! :banghead: Thank God I've heard of Midnight Club before. :dunce:

GT5 and NFS are nothing alike one is a track game the other street racing I dont see how you can ask the question about merging the two

Oh god I hate names for games.

On the DiRT Showdown video, there were people complaining about how they don't like... that its called DiRT. WTF?

Why? Why wouldn't you like names? Polyphony Digital had to stay without name or identity, so when they make a different game, nobody complains about ''Oh my god, PD is soooo stupid they don't make another GT...''

or

''Oh my god, PD should fix GT5, not make a GT Street, GT isn't for streets, oh my god they are so stupid, fix this 👎''

NEVER GIVE A GAMING SERIES A NAME

To go ontopic, yes I would like GT Street.

But call it Gran Turismo On The Streets, make it with illegal racing but GT5 graphics, say multiple times its from the makers of GT5 and i'll laugh.

No thanks.

Also, I think Kaz's 'free roam track' would be something like an airport with obstacles to drift through.

For starters gt is what they know its what they have been working on for years. from what I gather from your post you want them to make a nfs clone a series that has gone downhill since nfs mw or are you here to disagree for the hell of it

Wrong game, that is midnight club that you're talking about.

Who disagrees to disagree? I don't even know you.

Now I do, and I might. But I don't.

GT is what they know, yes. But people can do other things. That is mostly forgotten and the most stupid part of ''fans''

A valid proposal, though I wouldn't buy it. If I wanted to roam freely, I'd do so in Los Santos, or somewhere similar.

I think PD should concentrate on developing GT as a racing simulator, rather than a driving simulator, and improving realism, especially in car/tyre behaviour. They should also be more sensitive to cultural influences, street-tuning playing an important role in car culture these days, so a good selection of performance bodykits/aero parts and other cosmetic items such as decals would be very good.

So you feel pd should also create a game that EA has rehashed to death if anything wouldnt it be better to try for something nobody has seen

I believe nfs tried to incorporate street racing and track racing in pro street and that failed miserably for pd to venture into this area would be a significant risk with alot to lose

This. Lets keep our fingers crossed for GT6, eh.

I think the problem with this is that those guys who put huge spoilers, neon lights and huge rims on their real life cars actually believe their cars behave like they do in those arcade games.
Don't get me wrong, I would love more tuning options (including only visual ones) and would also love a free roam mode as I don't think the GT-formula is set in stone.

I care little for optical tuning.
Even changing rims I could do without. (done this 3, maybe 4 times)

If another developer steps up to the plate and makes a game devoted to this fine.
But Please let PD focus on physics and modeling cars and tracks.
If they got that down to perfection and have time to spare then it's fine with me if they start doing NFS underground stuff.

This ofcours is my personal opinion. ;)

Nope, never played any of that crap and have no intention of doing so. Therefore no, I certainly don't want PD to make a game even remotely similar to that.

Circuit based racing, that's all I'm interested in.

+1
I'd have to say no to the OP because we don't really need another arcade racer, all we need is for PD to add more body kit, and wheel options, and hopefully they will for GT6

Totally agreeing with OP 100% but I never bothered posting a thread like this here.
You'll probably get lot of "booooo booooo" "tuning = nfs = arcade booo booooo" and predictable comments like that.

I really can't see how a tuning game can't be realistic at the same time. At the end of the day we are still talking about cars, the only difference is a couple of neons, huge spoliers, crazy paints and a bunch of semi-naked asses over the hood ( )( ) <LoL.
"Tuning = arcade" is a clichè due to NFS Underground brand. Anyway, there are some tuned cars in GT5 (nobody can deny that) but I'm not expecting expecting a full "tuning simulator" from PD.
I don't know about freeroaming (not a big fan of it) but if you apreciate racing/tuning crossovers you should look somewhere else, with rFactor/GTR2 you can skin cars for a "tuning style" looks and then race at night, you can also change track sponsors add some tuning brands if you want more immersion. I don't know what's your experience with gMotor based simulators but it's worth mentioning the GTR2 Tuning Cars Mod 2.0 by TC Crew at GTR4u.de

Another important title is Live For Speed. Let's say expecially for drifting, tandem drifting and stuff like that. You'll probably need a LFS drift forum and some drift mates to get started but take a look at this video.

I hate to say this in a forum full of GT enthusiasts but isn't that what Forza is for?

Not everyone is willing to fork out the £150 or so just to buy an Xbox for Forza.

Instead of PD doing to GT what EA did to NFS, they should allow another studio to use GT5's engine to create a street racing game. Maybe PD and Rockstar could team up for the next Midnight Club? Think of it as payback for Porsche. :D
