Now, I don't want to say PD should step down from the heavens and entertain competition with the NFS Underground franchise, which above all other titles that have come and gone solidified its presence in tuner car games.
BUT that doesn't mean the guy playing NFS Underground isn't going to hang up his neon underglows and fluzzy dice to play a game that's on the complete opposite side of the spectrum... GT5.
What every gearhead really wants (even guys that may casually play NFS Underground) is realism. Sure, arcadey action is fun for a while but it doesn't satisfy on the same levels GT does. GT5 doesn't offer a whole lot in the way of tuning, it's more function over style. We know this... but that still doesn't stop the guy with 100% tinted windows and NOS stickers on every conceivable surface of his car from wanting more. I'm sure we've all bounced between NFS Underground [X] and GT[X] at some point in our gaming careers.
So to me there seems to be an audience for a game with Gran Turismo realism but with NFS tuner options. No, don't say the F word... because what could result in a Gran Turismo Underground might actually blow everything out of the water. There is epic potential behind it...
Now it isn't entirely out of the question or unrealistic because I believe there is evidence that PD wants to dabble with the Underground scene (or at least an MMO platform or mode) and perhaps there are certain cars and certain tracks that were included in GT for this purpose. I understand that Kaz originally wanted a free roam track and I think some of us have sort of pieced together an SSR map that could fill that concept.
But a project like this really could be its own game. However, in typical PD fashion they're probably spread too thin to tackle it properly. It's a delicate concept because usually games like this live as long as their 1st impression. The first NFS:U was awesome but just never filled GT's shoes, but successful enough nonetheless. The first TXR was the first properly executed tuner game of its time and it spawned a respectable series with some good sequels. Unlike NFS:U, TXR did offer GT-like tuning and it was awesome!
I had always wanted to see a project like this from PD and I know the audience exists and have been wanting to see this too. Should they finally branch off a spin off game and just do it?
TLDR: A PD refined MC:LA? Would it affect GT negatively/positively? I'll be honest, I'd probably buy it. What about you?
