Should PD just make a NFS Underground game?

I believe that Criterion Games would be able to a nice job if they made a new NFS Underground.... They made a good Hot Pursuit didn't they (it needed a better structure though IMHO).... As for PD I don't think so as they mostly ever made racing sims and I highly doubt that EA will allow them to make any type of NFS game..

I think it would be interesting. Could even be integrated. Bring back the world map and have randomely emailed challenges opening up locations . Could be integrated into the existing game.

The game needs a livory editor and adding more visual options would be fun for a lot of people. It would really be no different than having circuit racing and also having rally racing. An aspect of the game that could be fleshed out a bit more as well.

No, Forza allows you to make your own RM cars.
Exactly, the problem with Forza is you can paint only YOUR cars, you can't assign skins to AI, at least I never heard you can. If you are looking for a tuning sim (or sort of) that's a big limitation. I wouldn't like to race a fully skinned RX7 against a bunch of stock Skylines/ Lancer Evo/ Impreza. Would sound quite a fail to me. Your only chance with Forza is to find tuning clubs, but FM4 online isn't completely bugfree.

Not everyone is willing to fork out the £150 or so just to buy an Xbox for Forza.

Instead of PD doing to GT what EA did to NFS, they should allow another studio to use GT5's engine to create a street racing game. Maybe PD and Rockstar could team up for the next Midnight Club? Think of it as payback for Porsche. :D
Would be cool. LoL

If you mean they wouldn't be allowed to use NFS brand, that's for sure. but it's not EA's business decide what others can or cannot do. Sony doesn't need other companies brand.

Honestly.. I'm sorry if I come across jerky here.. but, WHAT THE 🤬 IS YOUR PROBLEM. The Name brand that advertises it's self as the real racing simulator.. all of a sudden pulls out with an arcade Police chase ? no.

Could you make a game like NFS and have better driving physics? Yes.
Could you make a game like GT5 and have more fruit for its cars? Yes.

Gran Turismo is my favorite car game and my second favorite is Auto Modellista. So I think it's best to have racing sims left alone as racing sims and arcade racers left as arcade racers.

GT needs more customisation options and Porsche, but thats the closest to NFS that it needs to go. IMO PD should stick to making sim games as that is what they're best at.

Oh god I hate names for games.

On the DiRT Showdown video, there were people complaining about how they don't like... that its called DiRT. WTF?

Why? Why wouldn't you like names? Polyphony Digital had to stay without name or identity, so when they make a different game, nobody complains about ''Oh my god, PD is soooo stupid they don't make another GT...''

or

''Oh my god, PD should fix GT5, not make a GT Street, GT isn't for streets, oh my god they are so stupid, fix this 👎''

NEVER GIVE A GAMING SERIES A NAME

To go ontopic, yes I would like GT Street.

But call it Gran Turismo On The Streets, make it with illegal racing but GT5 graphics, say multiple times its from the makers of GT5 and i'll laugh.

Never give a gaming series a game? It would probably get irritating when your friends say to you "Yeah I play that game. What game? You know, THAT game. The one with the guns, and the guy. The GAME! It had the guy with the gun, he saved the girl. You know THE GIRL. We liked the girl. The GIRL. She did the thing. You know, the THING with the Guy".

It would be like verbal charades.

He was referring to the clichè issue.

As someone mentioned, it doesn't matter what EA wants and doesn't want, they can't control a genre of a game made by any other company. The only issue would be is if PD wanted Porsche or for some ridiculous reason Madden in their game, THEN EA can say no (although I don't know why PD would want to make a game like that anyways).

i like GT the way it is cause IMO respects the cars (in a way) and doesnt allow to anyone to turn them into Clowns. BUT (and thats a big but) i can no longer stand the same spoilers!
I mean we have the same spoilers from what? GT2? A decade or so?
All these years not even one from the people that develop this game haven't ever said "Oh i have an i idea! I think we should make new spoilers?"
How hard can it be to make 3-4 new generic spoilers?

"yo dawg, look at my beast '22s on my civic"
Underground in a nutshell. It would be interesting, but once they make one, the new "fans" will be begging for another one, see Need For Speed's Facebook page as an example.

To the OP,

No, just... no. Race Modding and Livery Painting, yes. Ricing, street racing and running from cops, oh HELL no. That's what NFS Underwhelm is for.

Nah. PD should be only be doing what they're best at, which is developing Gran Turismo.

Wouldn't a free roaming mode that Yamauchi would like to see be something like this?

Test drive unlimited has the free roam that is a game that attempted to have the racing experience but give you free roam. They did well with the first but destroyed the second I wouldnt mind if pd attempted that

Well, I just know that what I want is a street racing game with free roam and realistic physics. Whether it'd be PD or not, it hasn't been done before. The only reason I'd want PD to do it is that they really know their driving physics.

And seriously, I'm tired of seeing 22inchers popping up the first thing every time there is talks about a street racing game. Sure there will probably people that will do this, but really, there are others that don't with decent taste. Also, how is this different than people clipping on OVERSIZED spoilers in GT5? And really, if there is a good online room with filters and boot-kick option, this shouldn't really be a problem if it disgusts you that much.

*edit

Also, if PD wants to put bumpers, lips, spoilers and all that, it better be the whole package. I mean, attaching a big spoiler to a car with no bumper kits, or adding a front bumper with no sides or rear, is really too disproportionate-looking to the eyes. It just looks like an unfinished body job... well actually it is unfinished.

Free roam and street racing has been done too bad they never got the physics right in test drive unl mited 2 now if that had gt physics that would have made the games awesome

So should they make another nfs? No. Should they attempt something like tdu2 tried to achieve I think yes

Well, yeah of course free roam and street racing has been done, with Midnight Club being a good example. What I meant is what you said, a game like Midnight Club, with realistic physics. It has never been done before.

Would be hard for pd to move out of its area of expertise not sure if sony would allow them to make that big of a risk

I don't think Sony has a say in what type of games they want their developers to make, just as long that they make their main franchise a priority. In a way, you're right, but that would mean if PD were to abandon the GT franchise for this, but you know that's not gonna happen.

Just imagine like Naughty Dog wanting to make the Last of Us. Surely, they're not leaving the Uncharted franchise, but instead split into two teams to work with both titles concurrently. So, if PD were to make a game of a different genre, and want to work with them simultaneously, they would need to have a bigger team big enough so it can split and still work efficiently.

I still think its a big risk one that I doubt pd would take.

Dear god no. Leave that genre to the Midnight Club guys, who did it better than anyone else. What I would like to see in GT though is fully licensed and preferably accurately simulated aero kits, performance parts, and tires.

Um naughty dog left Jak and Daxter and they left crash banicoot too.

And I don't think ND is splitting their efforts in The Last of Us.

On what levels? I'm talking about any game really. If you're the president/director of a game developer company, there will be times where you'll be bored and want to create something new. Kaz has even expressed of having ideas of making games of a different genre. If they didn't take risks, then they wouldn't have made Tourist Trophy. At this stage of their career and team though, they're not ready for such task, cause they can only really work with one game at a time, with GT being a big priority.

Again, look at Kojima Pro, Tetsuya Nomura, Naughty Dog, Ueada, and any other developers and lead directors out there. They're not limited to just one franchise.

We can't compare ND and PD directly with their past. ND has always been known to make different frachises every generation. PD have always stuck to one franchise, and a driving game is really a franchise that can't die and can always evolve. It has no story or such to worry about.

Also, ND did split their efforts with Uncharted 3 and Last of Us, unless you really think it only takes them 1 year to make the game, as Last of Us will be releasing next year. Anyway, it's pretty official now they have two separate teams at the moment.

Point taken none of the decent games would have been made without some form of risk I retract my previous statement

I have feeling that PD is one of those companies that are against street racing.

I mean if they say wear your seatbelt, then I think they won't condone street racing.
