Should there be license tests for NASCAR?

Nascar.

It wouldn't be so bad if they drifted whilst driving round in circles. to make it a bit more exciting.

like speedway racing on bikes.

The only other sport where they just go round in circles are greyhound racing and horse racing isn't it?

No theres bike racing and speed skating but those too would i guess be like watching paint dry.

Its very simple and I guess other than the g forces and to be able to stop becoming dizzy you must be on a level 2 in terms of driving skill compared to a rally driver who's on level 10.

Me bad.

Read sig please.

Read his sig please. :dunce:

Funny thing is no one complains when F1 or IRL does oval courses. Its always Nascar getting called out. And Nascar is alot more exciting on an oval then IRL.

Noone believes that NASCAR is easy. It is merely the easiest major motorsport.

Juan Pablo Montoya and Sam Hornish BOTH disagree.

A former F1 driver and a IRL champion are wrong?

The ignorance people display is unbelievable. Maybe a lot of you guys dont understand. Often the top ten qualifying times are within hundreths of 1 second of each other.

It is like 43 cars that are as close as Rossi and Lorenzo are, but the 43 cars have differnt motors, chassis, and setups, unlike Rossi and Lorenzo. Nobody said getting around the track was hard, BUT shaving off 0.01seconds is hard, especially staying at that pace for hours.

NASCAR's great!

I still believe that PD need to model it right if it is to be enjoyable though.

No driver aid options at all, TCS, ABS, AT, ASM must all be off as standard.
Realistic collision / draft physics
Realistic Tyre Degredation

These are more important maybe in NASCAR because it can be the subtleties that make the difference between a good run and a bad run, if these things arn't done properly it could well end up being a finish where you start race, which if you watch NASCAR it definatley isn't.

I think we should keep an eye out when racing online, for the people here that claim it's easy to race on ovals, so if we see them at an oval - and they are not winning, we can poke fun at them for not even being able to drive round in circles.

On topic.. I'd imagine that there will be draft challenges in the license test and it would be the most obvious choice to use NASCAR.

What is wrong with you haters!? I love watching NASCAR, and I'm far from alone digging it. Hundreds of thousands are going to NASCAR races to watch the action. Why do you think they're going? Because they think it's boring? No...

I so agree with your signature Justin. 👍

Read sig please.

I can read and have done so and my names Craig not Sig.:dunce:

Only messing.

So let me get this right your saying I'd have to take a pay cut?

we will see when the game comes out which formula is liked best - i imagine the nascar races will be quite empty on -line.

if i play them and they are great fun then i take back all these comments
x

Great Idea... We will start the list now

I suppose one of the NASCAR tests would be to see if you can start a car, the other if you can brake, and the third (and probably last) would be going around a corner that's six miles long and is just like the corners of the Test Course.

lol, love the idea of that list. I can already see myself having quite a laugh when they screw up. Wouldn't be easy as they thought.

Clearly you have no idea how popular Nascar online is. You will be proven very wrong soon enough.

You cant afford a PS3 because its a recession... but you pay monthly to play XBL?? Only tools pay to play online.

Get a PSN and youll be next on the list, troller. Why are you on a website dedicated to a PS3 game if you dont have a PS3? That isnt the problem though, you come here and make illogical remarks like the one I quoted.

I'm British. I don't watch NASCAR because 1) I don't have Sky or cable TV 2) It looks boring because there is no variation in the circuits I see. 3) I don't know any drivers / teams / circuits / rules. It's hard to get into something that doesn't draw you in in the first place.

However, I'm looking forwards to the NASCAR element of GT5. As someone above said, if PD model it right it could be good fun with a set of different challenges. Kaz obviously enjoyed watching it in real life and would like to recreate the series in GT (or is it just to sell more copies in the States?). It's just different to DTM, to WRC, to F1 etc. I don't think driver skill can be compared as it sounds like some different skills are required.

Yep, that's NASCAR in a nutshell.

Oh wait, you left out the part where they take an almost 2 ton car with 850 horsepower and pull 2.5 Gs on only 20 inches of rubber at and beyond the edge of control (with barely time to breathe between corners) at 190 mph for 4 hours at 140 degrees in the middle of 42 other cars.

What could be easier than that?

I highly doubt starting a car will be part of a test.

Ok, so are other certain members and some of them watch it as does a couple of friends of mine from Germany and Spain so so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

I don't watch NASCAR because 1) I don't have Sky or cable TV

There's live streaming on the net via Trackpass from the home site.

Theres alot more variation then you notice once you actually take the time to research these circuits.

Not sure how long you've watched it but I think once you've gotten a good understanding of it as you have DTM & WRC & F1, then you can assess if you like it of not. Most people recommend(assuming you have the time and money to do it) experiancing it in person by attending an actual race. As you mentioned, Kaz has gotten into it so who knows, you might see things differently.

I'm looking forward to them ever since NASCAR have been racing in my backyard (Gilles Villeneuve Circuit) and i hear the loud roars of those V8's, wondering how they get around that tight tricky circuit in one piece.

This 👍
Juan Pablo Montoya and Sam Hornish BOTH disagree.
Exactly what I was going to say. Montoya had a hard time when he started out. If NASCAR's so easy, then why did Montoya be bad when he started after winning many F1 races. Why did Jacque Villenuve, F1 World Champion fail to qualify for several races. If NASCAR's so easy, then these guys should've absoultely smeared the regulars.

The ignorance people display is unbelievable. Maybe a lot of you guys dont understand. Often the top ten qualifying times are within hundreths of 1 second of each other.
Heck, I even remember watching Jimmie Johnson win a pole by 0.001 seconds. That's a blink of an eye... divided by 15.

Responses in bold. I'd like a NASCAR Test in GT5, show the haters that it's more challenging than it looks.

Edited yours a bit Zuel

Just for kicks,go put in GT5P,tune a car to..............lets say 800pp.Go to Daytona Oval, when you get the green flag, pull over, let all the other cars go by you, therefore you will start dead last. You get 3 laps to pass every car and win the race. You need to do this without: (1) hitting or even so much as grazing another car (2) bouncing off the wall (3) no wall riding (4) do not drop below the yellow line at any time even to pass another car.

It can be done,I've done it,but it is a bit challenging.Hows that for a NASCAR test ? Try it,what do you have to lose but a few minutes of time. 👍
Myself and a couple of mates were doing just that last night, but in stock cars. What a blast.:D......... except for punters.....:(

I think a test would be to lap within 3 tenths of a set lap time, for 15 laps. Just for consistancy and tyre wear related speed.

That's what oval racing is about.
Remember "Days of Thunder" (I know it's a movie) (and a Tom Cruise one at that) (don't shoot me) when 50 laps your way, 50 laps my way almost the same lap times but tyres were still able to lap consistantly, after the 50.

I fully expect Cole Trickle to be the voice in GT5. Also, I want Harry telling me when I need to pit. And after the race I want to make out with Nicole Kidman and get road grime from my face all over hers! LOL I am so happy I grew up watching that movie.

Cole-"Im dropping the hammer"
Harry-"Oh no you're not Cole" (then the hammer gets dropped) CLASSIC!!!!

I think there will be the following license tests:

Test A-1 - Accelerate

Test A-2 - Turn left

Test A-3 - Do donuts

Then you are licensed :)

You have got to be kidding me.

I would love to see a Lisence test for nascar.
would like to see things like stay with 1m of their bumper without touching for however many seconds
Crash recovery- recover a spin minamizing crash damage and time
maybe some team manouvers .

I am not a nascar fan as of yet but if Kaz thinks it has a place in the game i trust him

Kaz wants to sell a million more copies of GT5 and knows that a decent NASCAR mode will bring the NASCAR fans to the register.
