Got these today! :D

So why did I get these? Well, here's why for each game:
NASCAR Heat. I got this one because I have a very deep attachment to the PS1 NASCAR games stemming from my childhood, and I really enjoy NASCAR on that system. In fact, I have all 3 of Stormfront’s titles, 3 of EA Blackbox titles, and even Papyrus's only PS1 title, but what I didn't have was this one, which comes from completely different devs than what I am used to on that system. So, because of that and the simple fact that I love playing NASCAR on that system, I just had to get it to add yet another one to the list that I am sure I will enjoy.
NASCAR 2000. I said I had a very deep attachment to the PS1 NASCAR titles, NASCAR 2000 happens to be the one I am the most fond of out of all of them, and it's also the one I played the most too. That said, I recently saw footage of the PC version and learned of how much better it was on there, so I undoubtedly wanted to get this one since I already know I'll love it, especially since I know a way to run it on Windows 10.
Need for Speed Carbon. While Underground 2 is my most favorite, Carbon is actually the one I played the most of all the NFS games I have, and it's held the spot as my 2nd favorite for many years now. So you can already imagine why I wanted it, but another reason why was that in recent years I have had a need for it on PC since it has some car data I've wanted to use for some mods in Need for Speed Most Wanted on the same system. However, the price for the game has been so steep, it prevented me from getting one of my own until I found this one for a decent price. My interest in PC gaming has soared in recent times, so I am very pleased to have this one on hand finally!

Haven't played any of them yet, but I intend to give NASCAR Heat a go later tonight once I am done playing my other PS1 games. Should be fun! :)

So, I got some DiRT,...

...and some Dirt,...

...to go along with some new Krush.

I never played the original DiRT Rally. I put loads of time into Rally 2.0, so I'll be curious to see the differences between the two (and eager to romp up Pikes Peak). Someone had Ki-Oku going online for a relatively low price, so I figured, once again, that I wasn't going to see another one at that price for a while if I didn't get it now. Dirt, besides being a phenomenal album in its own right, was an attempt to add something other than Hip-Hop to my vinyl collection for the first time in a while.

All-in-all, not a bad week of pickups. :D

Having played both games, I‘d say the original Dirt Rally has less variety than 2.0 in terms of cars and tracks but I found the physics more realistic. At the end it‘s all a matter of personal taste but I found the cars in 2.0 quite slippery, they feel much more planted in the original game. Both games are great, though.

Picked up a series 10 Apple Watch.

IMG_1142.webp

Also picked up a different strap (hate those silicone ones.

IMG_1144.webp

Plus an Anker Charger for my iPods, Phone and Watch.

IMG_1145.webp

And because the phone part of the charger is MagSafe and my XS Max is not MagSafe I needed a new case.

That seems to be a common dislike. Silicone straps make my wrists sweat.
Good for things like swimming and running but I won’t be doing that. I just need it to track my ECG and other fitness stuff while I work on getting back into shape.

I’d be also interested in the sleep monitoring to see what that shows.

I’ll get it and it will start blinking and shouting at me all the time for being lazy and medical risks

As my CD collection has gone from less than 10 to over 100 in the last 12 months I bought one of these:
Marantz cd2007.webp

Already the difference in sound quality from my previous set up is amazing.
I have 2 Marshall active speakers which have 3.5mm inputs (Acton III and Kilburn II) so I've been using a combination of cables to make things fit from my previous Chinese CD/DAB player. I've bought some decent 3.5mm to phono leads and some speakers stands arriving tomorrow to hopefully make the best of my new player. And I needed a new CD to play so, if you haven't already got this, buy it...

Buying NFS Carbon in 2025? You're not alone, I actually bought one myself for PS3 a few weeks ago!
20250815_161052[1].webp

Payed 20 euros for it... I'm sure someone will come here and say I over-payed for this game and what not, but guess what? I DON'T CARE!
Actually, it's not that common to find theses PS3 copies of Carbon, at least here in Portugal... this one I believe it came all the way from Sweden (!!!) since the back of the cover is half English - half Swedish, as well as the manual, so if my assumption is true this game came from a very long way!

Of course I've played a lot of Carbon back in the day, mostly on PC and PS2... but let me be clear about this: I'm definitely NOT your typical NFS fanboy, not by a long shot, and I've never been a fan of the traditional "street racer getting chased by the cops" kind of experience from which NFS is mostly know for (but I kinda liked the OG NFS Most Wanted though...), but this game I think it's pretty good, very entertaining and compelling, especially for the Canyon racing part of the game.

Also bought another NFS for PS3, but this one has a totally different approach to racing:
20250815_161117[1].webp

10 euros and took this one home with me... yep, it's probably the most controversial NFS ever made, and it's not much of a surprise to say that, from all the NFS that I've played to this date, this one is in fact, my favorite.

Yeah, I just said it out loud. I am a big fan of Pro Street! It blew me away back then in 2007, and it still does today.
Sure, back then all I could afford for was the lousy PS2 version of it, which essentially wasn't much more than a glorified demo of the real thing, with less available cars, nearly nonexistent damage system and a painfully slow decal customization menu which took forever to use, meaning you would need a entire afternoon just to properly customize your car (editing and placing the decals, I've spent more hours customizing my cars than actually racing them ).

The funny thing about it is that the PS2 version was actually the most stable version of the game, at least that's what I can say from my personal experience of playing it EXTENSIVELY on PS2 and PC... haven't tried this PS3 version yet but I do know it also has some pretty serious bugs and glitches.

But still, Pro Street is exactly the type of game I've always wanted to play, a track racing experience for the former illegal street racer but more on the relaxed side of things, definitely not as serious as NFS Shift (also another great game, but in a different way), totally ditching the cops chases and confining all the action to the race track... it's just you, your machine and all the other opponents trying to prove themselves in 4 different classes (Grip, Drag, Drift, Speed).

Sadly, like I said before, this game was kinda let down by the cheer amount of bugs it has, bugs that EA could easily fix but I guess they just didn't care about that... it was a rushed game that in my opinion deserved a lot more and certainly had potential to be a lot more.

I'm still waiting for a sequel... not holding my breath much, since the typical "street racer getting chased by the cops" type of game is apparently what sells so...

Nice! I got that version of the game back in 2012, but to tell you the truth, I've barely played it for some reason. I imagine the reason for it is that I haven't spent any quality time with the game since at least 2010 or 2011, and I wanted to finish my old profiles on PS2 before I play that one, but alas, I haven't done it yet. Getting this game on PC has encouraged me to do so sometime before the year is over, though.

If I remember correctly, I had some trouble finding mine back in 2012, so it's not just you. That price seems pretty reasonable, actually.

Neither have I. Back in my early teens, the cops in Most Wanted had a notorious reputation for ruining my mood, and the fact that it focused so much on them didn't help either. I was happy Carbon put way less emphasis on the cops than the previous game, and it was part of the reason I enjoyed it more.

Nowadays, based on my last playthrough, the cops in MW don't bother me nearly as much as they used to, and they can be fun at times, but I will admit, if I am having a really crappy day, I probably would need to stay away from the game. (or at the very least, avoid getting into pursuits, especially with high heat)

And as someone who started out with that version, I know the feeling. The autosculpt was also super slow.

And I speak from experience when I say it also has a nasty habit of corrupting save games because it's happened to me 3 times since I got it. The car list is bigger than the PS2 version, and things like vinyls, autosculpt, and such are much faster too.

I do, actually. Albeit in a roundabout way.
So it is a mission you can do, should you choose to accept it. As you know, AUP does say "may" so you can let yourself off the hook this time. I'll let you off too, after all I got my first title of F1 MTC on here thanks to you and it would look only reputable if it was from an honourable moderator rather than a banned member.

Anyway to avoid being banned myself due to being off-topic, my latest purchase is also Red but a Jag which I bought out of the blue this week.

Well, I am an avid console player and I'll always prefer playing my games on any of my trusted PlayStations instead of playing on ANY PC, no matter how good it is... but I believe that playing Carbon on PC is in fact the best way of enjoying that game.

I've spent many hours playing it on my PS2 and it was a lot of fun, and from the reviews I've seen on the web the PS3 version might just be the ultimate "console" experience, it's highly praised by a lot of players.

But why is it better on PC? Simply because you can easily find a lot of tools and modifications that can either unlock hidden content, fix/stabilize any problems or bugs you might encounter for trying to run such an "old" game on a modern PC, and even broaden up your possibilities through the use of mods.
You can't really do any of that on a console, or it's certainly a lot harder at least.

I'm sure you're aware of the existence of the Collector's Edition of Carbon, which sports a few more cars, events and vinyls... I'm not entirely sure but I think at least some of the supposed "exclusive" content is actually present on the standard edition of the game and can be somehow activated with save editors if I'm not mistaken.

I wish I could have a save editor for the PS3 version... sadly after digging through the web I couldn't find one, but for the PC version I believe there's at least one out there.

Just do a quick google search and you'll be amazed with what you'll find. With clever use of the right tools, maybe even trying to use a controller if you're not a fan of playing on a keyboard (I know I'm not!) and you're all set for a good gaming experience.
And I speak from experience when I say it also has a nasty habit of corrupting save games because it's happened to me 3 times since I got it. The car list is bigger than the PS2 version, and things like vinyls, autosculpt, and such are much faster too.
Yeah, tell me about it. This is a very known problem that Pro Street has and EA seemingly never got around to fix it properly, it's a shame really.
I never had any problems with my save file on the PS2, but on PC it's a different story. I remember trying to add those DLC to the game and after some time, I started having problems.

From what I've seen so far and from most of the people's experience, I think my best chance of enjoying Pro Street on PS3 is to NOT update the game at all, as some of the updates even go as far as removing content which was previously available for free and make you pay for it on a DLC that you can't even buy anymore on Playstation Store (typical EA...).
OK, they do fix some of the game's errors but they also found a way of adding a few more to an already rushed, unstable game.

So I believe the most "stable" build of that game on PS3 is actually the one that you get straight out of the box, without the updates

Well that's just mean. I already came too close to losing my sanity there once already.
I feel like I missed out, only used to really hang out in the Seasonal Events forum. if you don't deal with the trauma directly, it will eat you up inside. Great that you made it out with your sanity intact. 👍

I wish I could show you the 🤬 we all dealt with back then, but those threads (and some of the members) are all in the shadow realm.

Thankfully.

Back during GT5? I say this with the utmost sincerity and without an ounce of irony or comedy...

Yes.
I can attest to this, as someone who spent a decent amount of time lurking in the Drifting side of the subforum. You could always count on, at minimum, multiple members having long-term arguments about "Drifiting vs. Powersliding," and/or very silly and heated arguments about using 4/AWD cars for drifting. It really was a collection of..."passionate individuals" taking one small part of the game wayyyyyy too seriously, which was sometimes entertaining, but reguarly turned into a 🤬show without too much effort.

Now, it's probably because I'm not a mod, and as such was not tasked with cleaning up said regular 🤬shows that @Terronium-12 and all the other mods had to deal with, but there's a part of me that almost misses those times. That being said, I would never willingly ask for that level of craziness to return.
