Sick of all the bragging

When did I say they need insulting back?

issues are not addressed through fear of reprisals

reprisals = retaliation

The meaning seemed to me that you were saying fighting fire with fire. (ie: insults with insults)

If that's NOT what you meant, you of course have the opportunity to make that clear, so there's no misunderstanding here.
(That's a perfect example about how one post often cannot be judged alone for it's meaning/intention!)

Maybe I'll PM the thread author and ask if I can change the subject to 'GT6 and the human condition' ..?

If we start that... a lot of people will need to contact a lot of OP people about changing their subject lines to "GT6 & The Human Condition"
(Or, GT6 & Man's Inhumanity to Man, etc. etc.)

Why is it when someone starts a thread about how to win this race or that people immediately post how great they are, how easy is was for them, did it on the first try, adding nothing to the question asked? I don't care how good a driver you are, I'm reading the thread because I'm interested in an answer. Way to many of this type of reply. Just one of my beefs, I feel better now.
Exactly! Those guys are as bad as the ones who constantly complain about how "the games not hard enough! The sounds suck! Kaz is a jerk! Waaaaaaah!". /rant

If I fully document a suggestion in a manner that would be suitable for the Product Managers at PD, it's going to be lengthy. One of my submissions was described as a "manifesto"! The poster made it clear that "manifesto" was complimentary, not derogatory, so I'm happy with that. But it didn't get many forum votes of course, and nor did I expect it to. It's not like my very popular suggestion to make the cars make echo sounds when they are under bridges or in tunnels. It's a one-liner, so the choice to like or ignore is easy.

You can sort of do this manually

Press select as you enter tunnel (change view)
Press select three more times, as you go through the tunnel.

Which is the virtual equivalent of winding the window down and sticking your head out of it as you go through a tunnel. Or even better, getting out, running alongside and then diving back in again. 👍

Not really - you're in the wrong place for airing those views, although I hope you feel better now.

Back on topic, I see nothing wrong with someone saying something like: "If you use car A with setup B, it's easy to win the event." It's implying that the race is easily winnable due to the equipment & not the insane skill of the driver.

On another point stated earlier regarding bragging, I have found most of the top guys to be not only helpful, but humble as well. 👍

.

Elaborate tunnels. I like it.

I was thinking about this post last night when I was driving a couple laps of the Ring in the LM NSX. When I say something is "easy" it's not that I'm bragging about how good I am, quite the opposite. I know I'm not a great driver. There are many much better drivers than I. What I'm meaning when I say something was "easy" is "this was easy, I'm nothing special, if I can do it then so can you." I usually try to elaborate this point but if I've ever not then I'm sorry for seeming smug.

I think that the angst in this thread against boasting is against the cases where the question is something like "I'm struggling with XYZ event, please make suggestions", and the question is not "how did you all find the difficulty".

In those cases, the questioner isn't asking to know anything about your skills, the ease with which it was done, how you golded it first time out on the track or came in five seconds under. He or she is asking for tips, for approaches.

Suitable answers would be related to choice of car, tune, approach to corners, how hard to push things.

I remember struggling terribly with the Mario Andretti Hudson event and somebody advised us to keep below 3,500 rpm or some such figure. That was great. I thought at last that there was hope. While there were still tips to try, all was not lost.

When I read the posts boasting about how easy it was to annihilate the gold time, I just felt inadequate, and wanted to get out of Mr Andretti's Hudson and secretly die of dehydration in the desert! I'd been struggling for bronze, so what am I doing in this community? I don't belong here!

👍👍 Someone would have to be terribly insecure or have a massive inferiority complex to take what you said, or anything similar and turn it into something negative. Unless someone comes out and says with deliberation and purpose, "I'm simply better than you", then you have to give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they are sincere and want to help. I have seen people go to great lengths on GTP to help what amounts to complete strangers, typing long and involved posts explaining both simple and elaborate concepts. Look at some of the garages like @Motor City Hami 's Tuning Guide. Just one example of hundreds of people helping others in this community for no reward other than the satisfaction of helping. I get warm and tingly all over just thinking about how helpful this community is:lol:

I'm sure I've come across as bragging a few times (entirely unintentionally), but there was once a heated thread in the GT5 Tuning Forum that I got involved in because somebody was saying the fastest drivers are rude and secretive, so I spent half an hour tracking down @eclipsee's tuning guide to try to defuse the situation, just because I like to help. Even if I can't directly help, I try to point people towards someone who can or a useful thread, because that's the best thing about this community. And for the arrogant arseholes, as gets said a lot, there's an ignore function for a reason. 👍
