I got the GT86 last night, I've never driven the car in real life but the weight and power feel about right, and from what I've read about how it drives it does seem believable. It's not incredibly oversteery so it's normally quite stable, but you can drift it if you try.

I'm gonna get it soon If I get the chance, I was hoping i'd get the chance to compete in the Mclaren F1 hotlap, but havent had a chance since the car came out. Was a $20 prize for that one too and I only got a few laps in, bah!

How does it compare to the same car in GT5? Assuming you play GT5 that is!

The 86 GT is a fun little car. I've been racing it today and I've enjoyed it. I've also been entering more events. I finally got the Viper ACR-X, and I've had a blast with it. I think I'm doing well, I have entered 3 hotlap events and I'm in the top 10 for all of them. The top 5 for two. By the time the events end I'll probably be 10 positions worse off. :P

If it helps, i find that NOT running at 900/1080 degree is a good thing, personally I run it at 500, but I'm not using a T500RS. If you go onto their website you will see a "Chat" tab in the side. Click that and you will find some people there to help you with your issues.

thank you:)

Just got an email saying tomorrow's Test Drive Tuesday will feature the Mclaren MP4/4. It will also be on a 50% discount sale. :)

So I bought the MP4-4. First impressions.

Driving/Physics - Hard to really tell, it's not like I've driven an MP4/4 but first off I found that it was a handful, I spun the car on the pit exit at mid-ohio and I spun it a few times more before getting the hang of it. You have to drive it with precision and care, especially on the throttle. After getting the hang of it I started putting in some laps I could push it harder and it really started to come, the car is responsive but smooth and doesn't have the same bite the M26 had. I need to spend some more time with it, perhaps at a track I know well like Watkins Glen.

Sounds : It sounds good, definitely is in the right ballpark for the car and it sounds close but it lacks balls, almost a bit too clynical and lacking in character, probably a weakness in SRW is that only a few cars translate a real ballsy sound and this isnt one of them. Fair does to them though, it isn't a task many others have managed either, outside of using actual recordings taken from old F1 footage glued together. Something like the Rfactor F1 1991 historic mod, while they sound brutally awesome at times, it's also blatently obvious that it's glued together clips from F1 footage.

Graphics/Modelling - In this area SRW have done a fantastic job, the cockpit is really highly detailed and looks great, and the car itself from the outside is spot on, easy to see that they have come a long way in this area, the car really does look great.

That said, even at $19 half price (for today only) it isn't cheap and though I like it I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed considering the aura and status behind this car and how much I wanted it. I'm not sure if for me it captures the spirit of it well enough, something that I felt SRW had perfected in other cars.

The MP4/4 definitely takes a bit to get used too. Was only able to do an outlap before work this morning. Didn't really get the hang of it in that lap either:) I'm hoping I can put in some more laps with it tonight. One thing I've really enjoyed about the Evolution X is how much more alive it feels to me than other games version of it.

Hey mates, I just signed up for this game. Will be DLing it this weekend when I get a new computer.
I was just wondering, what tracks come with the game?

Lets see.

Lime Rock Park
Watkins Glen
Mid Ohio Sports Car Circuit
Infineon Raceway/Sonoma
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Circuit of the Americas
Zandvoort
BRNO Circuit
Chigagoland Speedway
Phoenix International Raceway
Martinsville Speedway
Longstone Pass (british countryside type circuit)
Pudsey (model of a british town/motorway circuit)

Many of them feature different layouts aswell as karting circuits. There are a few fantasy circuits that I missed out. Watkins Glen seems to be the most popular one for events to be run on. I'm guessing that a bunch more are in the pipeline, it's still beta so plenty more to come.

So I need to get my PS3 controller hooked into my PC. The keyboard is rubbish. Same with a joystick.

I only have the Lance so far. The physics remind me of BMW M3 Challenge...

Snapshot of the MP4/4 at Watkins Glen. Still haven't got the hang of this car, it is a wild horse that needs taming, not for the faint of heart! Was putting in 1:30-1:31 laptimes around Watkins Glen and I know I can go faster but I keep screwing something up during the lap, the car is crazy!

Some people expressed difficulty in driving it and with spinning it out, after trying the recommended G25/G27 settings from the forum I could see why. Using the recommended settings for me turned the car into an overly sensitive almost undrivable mess. Would definitely advise people to work their own settings out starting from the defaults!

I lost my old settings after fiddling about and then ended up having to scrap it and start from default, surprised to find my settings are very close to the default with only the FFB strength and dampening toned down a bit (moreso the dampening). Sometimes default just works, I think I must have had it this way before I lost my settings too.

Just a little update guys- I DLed the game, and I am very impressed with it.
I drove the Austin track for the first time in any video game and....... wow. How in the world did those 24 F1 machines get past that mountain in Turn 1 and not have a huge pileup on the first lap?
One thing I was wondering...... are there any plans to put stock cars (AKA NASCAR) in the game? It seems weird that the lifeblood of NASCAR (Martinsville) is in the game but without any stock cars.
Also, cool that this is the Martinsville that was ran in the October NASCAR race. I can tell by the pink kurbs.

The ovals are relatively new to the sim (though still a few months old by now) but I doubt they would be going to the effort of putting these tracks into the game if they weren't planning on adding the stock cars to go with them. That said, I have no idea as they generally don't speak about what cars are going to be added beforehand, they just seem to appear out of nowhere. They always email you when a new car is released, as of late they have been adding many cars.

Not so long ago they released one of the most requested cars, the Mclaren F1 LM road car, prior to release they kept their mouths shut so we really did not even know it was coming until the day it was released.

So it's a surprise? Okay, I love surprises :dopey:
I'm pretty certain too that they will be licensed offically by NASCAR much like their deal with Indy Car. Otherwise why are there so many NASCAR logos around Martinsville?

I've asked about NASCAR in the chat on the Simraceway website, and they currently don't have the NASCAR licence - the logos are included in the track licences.

The car for Test Drive Tuesday this time is the Maserati MC12 GT1. The 50% off normal price makes it $6. I'm going to try and mess around with it a bit this evening:tup:

It's a great car, frustrating though. The tyres are really sensitive to overheating, if you start to slide the car will hold but you will cook the tyres so bad that the next corner you will have no grip. Seems like to get it to go fast you have to not push it so hard and hold back just a little to keep the tyres alive, every time I tried to push it hard I ended up frying the tyres and wiping out during my lap, wiped out over and over. When I finally just thought "ok i'm gonna do a clean slow lap" I ended up going 3rd fastest overall in the event.

I'm guessing most of the other people are having the same issues, pushing the car too hard and cooking the tyres. I like it though, really interesting and exciting car to drive (if a bit frustrating at the Mid-Ohio event).

Agreed. I can't make it stick, I love the car but it's a pain to keep on the road, especially when you don't have much judgement via sound (I have no sound due to PC problems).

Another new car has been released - the Lexus CT200h. It costs 30 cents or 300 credits.

Not exactly the most exciting car to have in a racing game, but still adds to the wide variety of cars in Simraceway.

Even if that Lexus drove well, it still looks rather deformed. :P Might buy something else for about the same price but with a bit more appeal to it.

I did the event at Phoenix oval last night in the Mclaren M6GT, at 5 credits a lap and sub 29 second laptimes it makes for over 600 credits per hour, if you just run the event in each difficulty you can rack up a whole bunch of points, I ended up buying the VW Golf R and the Ford F150 truck! Can't believe how fast the credits rack up compared to other events.

Initially was going to get the Lexus, but aswell as being butt ugly it only has 98 bhp and is front wheel drive, not my cup of tea so I'l probably wait until I run out of cheap cars to buy with credits. I do like that they keep adding variety to the sim though, and the car models of late are getting really well done (higher quality than the earlier stuff visually).

Bigbazz

I can't log in to SRW on my phone, when is this event ending? I didn't manage to take advantage of the Indycar oval event as much as I'd wanted to so I've been waiting for a new fast oval event for some time, but I won't be able to get on until Monday...
