Single Malt

I'm a single malt drinker. 12 year old Glenlivet for value and a 20 year old Lagavulin for special evenings, anyone else likes true whisky?
What is your single malt of choice?

I'm in love with Laphroaig Quarter Cask, smokey liquid goodness.

I don't have an everyday choice vs a special evenings drink. I usually don't open a new bottle of whisky until I've finished the current open one. I don't want to seem like too much the alcoholic when friends drop by.....but on to types:

My everyday purchase choice is Laphroaig 1/4 cask. This one is good because it has such a strong taste that a lot of my friends don't like it - so more for me

I just opened a bottle of Cragganmore finished in a sherry cask (got it at the duty free shop in Shanghai) and it is really mellow and has a very sweet finish - it might become my new "everyday"

That said, I also have a bottle of Cragganmore finished in a port cask - unopened - also from Shanghai duty free - that one will probably be uncorked this summer at the cottage.

I wonder what the Duty free shops in Tokyo have (I'll be there in about 3 weeks).

Agreed about the friends. My taste is way to salty for most of them.
but they gladly hit the Glenlivet cold, and I keep Jim Beam and JWalker black for the unfaithful

Suntory??? Really??? I am familiar with their beer - my brand of choice when I stock up at Tesco in Shanghai. I had no idea about whisky - I shall attempt to find some, though I am just passing through on my way from Vietnam back to Canada - I just have a 10 hour layover.

I don't drink anymore, but I always thought it was funny when people were dead set on a certain whiskey. I think it's all horrible. I always just bought the cheapest stuff there was and would down 4 or 5 shots worth and be done with it for the night.

Oddly enough, the best tasting whiskey I have ever drank is probably one of the cheapest I ever tasted, and it was Kessler. It was awful too though. I always thought any serious whiskey drinkers, or really and kind of drinker that compared drinks, as someone with a drinking problem. When I was younger I use to love to drink, but anymore I just don't see the point. I'm scared my kids or family might need me and i would be drunk and useless.

I whole heartedly agree, The Macallan is excelent! I'm not very picky though, I also enjoy Talisker. Glenlivet is a good traditional scotch. However, currently I'm down to 1 bottle in my cabinet, and its a Lagavulin. Going to have to get another bottle very soon!! Fathers day is coming up, that sounds like a good excuse to me

I'm not a huge drinker, I like real ale and I like nice single malt now and again. I was recommended this by Giles here on GTP. Talisker 10 year, my parents got me lovely peuter hip flask this last Christmas so will come in handy on the cold winter dog walks this year.

I don't make them drink Jim Beam my friend, they do it (believe or not) voluntarily.
I would never inflict such damage on my friends livers
All my bar is open to whoever gets to see it!!

Oh I don't hate it really, just making fun of it a little. I like to keep one bottle of bourbon, one blended scotch and one single malt, so the brands varies from time to time.
The only connection with single malt would be the casks though...

I have three different scotches open at home right now. What I drink really depends on my mood.

I really enjoy the Talisker though. Despite it only being a 10 year old, I was surprised by it's complexity and smoothness. That or a Glenmorangie is also great if I want something a little lighter and sweeter.

Not wealthy enough to afford any 18 or 21 year old scotches yet.

I had bottle of Smokehead once. But that was too much smoke. I cannot get that stuff down.

The Bowmore is pretty good. And I actually like a nice blend too from time to time.

Horses-for-courses I guess. I just haven't found anything to tempt me away from it as yet, certainly not for the price. Bowmore Mariner is probably the closest but harder to get hold of.
