Will GTP Members be affected by the merger of GT and Forza Planet?
If so how can we report it?

No, there will be no change or impact to GTPlanet members.

Lol, I noticed the red notice on my 'control panel' and thought "Oh F...., am I banned?"

Then I zoomed in.......

Happy days.

If you got banned clearly its a new type of special ban.

To Jordan, don't mean to overstep bounds but why is this being done? Is Forza Planet too small to be viable as its own site?

I know I was like whoa wtf is that

Will any part of the merge become permanent?

An overwhelming majority of ForzaPlanet users are from GTPlanet. They go there to talk about Forza, but come back here to talk about everything else (for obvious reasons). When I launched FP as a separate site, I assumed there would be enough interest from outside GTPlanet to foster a mostly separate and independent community, but I overestimated interest in the Forza series and the demand for such a website. Now, I see that one unified platform is the best way to host and foster discussions about sim racing games of all types.

It will also save me a tremendous amount of work (and stress), as I can once again focus my efforts on maintaining only one website.

I'm not sure I understand the question.

I'm just gonna go ahead and presume I read this wrong. To me,

During the maintenance period, GTPlanet’s sister site, ForzaPlanet, will be merged with and become part of GTPlanet.

Makes it sound like it's going to be a temporary thing, but I see now that it's not.

Oh, I see how you read that. I've removed that bit so it will hopefully be more clear.

So is GTP going to become more of a everything in one site instead of just focusing mainly on Gran Turismo in itself?

I'm not really sure how to answer that; as that's kind of what it already is. My comments above were just referring to the relationship between GTPlanet and ForzaPlanet.

I have a question similar to this. How will the "merging" work? Like, will there be another tab up top labeled ForzaPlanet? So when you click it, you will still be at the GTP "site" but on the Forza "page"?

I took this to mean will you be posting Forza related posts on the main page or will that remain focused solely on GT subjects? My assumption is it will stay GT-centric.

ForzaPlanet's Forza-specific boards will appear as a new category on GTPlanet's forum home page. When you're in those forums, ForzaPlanet's logo and template will be displayed.

ForzaPlanet's news blog will be closed. GTPlanet's news blog will not change and will not include Forza material.

My Gawd, Forza and GT are going to be married on Saturday at 2.00 A.M. !
What next for crying out aloud?

The MILs are not going to be happy. . .

Private wedding, I hear, so I'll have to find something else to do.

To Jordan. Will this make it possible to keep the mobile app operational? I know you said before that the mobile app will stop being supported. Will this have any affect on that?

So does this mean peoples post counts will also carry over?

Between 2 and 3am local time? That won't be a problem.

*Post merging*
Yup. As long as you have the same email for both GTP and FP accounts, the posts will merge under your GTP account. 👍

Oh OK, cool. I only have 10 or so posts over there anyway so it doesn't really affect me. Just wondering really.

Good luck with the transition, hope it goes smooth. :)

I just want to ask a single, simple question: were the Forza forums that unused? :scared: I know, Forza isn't exactly the most popular game for those of us who are actually interested in racing, and the 0 support for Logitech peripherals is a bummer, but... Merging the sites just makes it seem like Forza's nowhere near as popular as people make it out to be.

Do you want a bigger shovel for that dig? I'm pretty sure it's because there are already two well established Forza communities, the official one (300,000+ members) and Forza Central (27,000 members).

Do you want a bigger shovel for that dig?

If you've got one, it could replace my broken snow shovel.

As for the community numbers, I know. But, 300,000 isn't that much more compared to GTP's numbers. :gtpflag: <--- win

That's for the official site, though. I was on the Forza official site... Too many loonies, not enough sensible people. I was chased away by their craziness. They all attacked each other every five minutes. :scared:

How does GTP "win" with less members? Anyway my point was Forza is a very popular game for discussion online even if Forza Planet was not.

If Forzaplanet has a thread about what you ate today and GTPlanet has that same, are you going to merge them or what?

As Simon already hinted at, the difference between FP and GTP was that GTP has had over a decade to assert itself, and many years ago, the other big fan-operated GT forum was shut down (after constant bouts of stability anyways). FP was much later to the scene for its respective series, and T10 actually put quite a lot of effort into their official forums, which made FP a bit of a hard sell. We did enjoy some support from T10 in the early months though, with early DLC code giveaways provided by them.

It's a shame the News Blog won't continue, Jordan; I know T-12 loved writing it, but the smaller audience was a hard thing to overcome. I can't imagine the general reaction round these parts though if FM5 news started flooding the front page :p
