Skid Recovery Assist = Faster?

Skid Recovery was the only way I could pass the Top Gear special event with the Lotus Elise. Although I won I felt like cheating, but I was sooo sick and tired of that special, I tried like 500 times and still could not beat them with a DFGT. :(
With Skid Recovery though I was able to win easily from the first time. That's why I love GT5 there is so much room for me to improve, I m gonna be playing this for a long time I hope.
This is the perfect example of why it is and should be there.

As per leader boards, it's not hard to have separate boards for "skid recovery" and without.
Hell they already have the online racing menu sortable for with/without it.

I had a weird things happen in the 1000m braking test with the DB9,

I run with abs to 1 usually and on this event, skid recovery is enable automaticaly and you can't turn it off.
So after some try I realize I had trouble with golding it so I put abs to 10 and still fail miserably, then I thought about turning it off, and you know what ?
I accelerate faster than any other time. Since people are saying abs dont influence speed, I guess skid recovery is still slowing you down a bit.
Only explanation really.

You're confusing Skid Recovery Force with ASM. Turning ABS off won't affect the former but the latter and the former certainly won't slow you down.

Damn, I have never tried this cause it doesn't equate to any real driving aid, and now I know why.

The videos of the RX-7 beating the Seasonal Deep Forest event are done with SRA on. I'll have to try this.

It replaced standard physics in prologue. Useful for less skilled players, but I doubt many people here will see a need for it.

Odd that people are saying they wish it wasn't in the game.

Are you aware that you don't have to use it? It's an OPTION.

I used it for some F1 races and Rally Challenges. Otherwise I would have never won those events using a pad.

Well using a DS3 without Skid Recovery is almost impossible but with a wheel Skid Recovery is best turned off.

Wow, I never knew that!. I thought it was some kind of traction control.

Maybe that explains why some people claim certain challenges are easy to gold and you scratch your head wondering what they are talking about.

A lot of people are saying it shouldn't be in the game. I'll say, I don't care either way if it's in there because I don't use it, but it's not ruining my gameplay experience to know other people are using it when I can just make an online room that has it banned.....

It should be permanently disabled for anyone using a wheel and only usable by those with pads. Although hosts of online races should still be able to disable it completely should they wish.

I'd say it's useful for anyone who wants to go as fast as possible, regardless of skill level. The bottom line is, skid recovery gives you more grip.

I have to play using the DS3, and I haven't had this setting on... So thats 2 reasons I can only get silver in the seasonal events, or at least 2 I can use....

Same here, back in the days with my ps2 i played with a wheel and people told me i was a very good driver.

Now i play on my ps3 with no money for a descent wheel. And tbh i feel than im not as fast as i used to be.

So going to try the seasonal with the skid recovery on.

I'd just like to say that with most cars I, like most people here, drive with only abs1 on. But anyone who's tried the Dream Car Champ race at the 'ring with a 800+bhp Zonda R , its very tricky to not torch your tires and then be constantly spinning out, regardless of throttle control, with a DS3!!! Skid recovery made a difference for me on this race!! ( still felt like cheating a touch tho! ). But EVERYONE needs to realise that this is a GAME after all, not real life, and therefore, everyone should use, or not use, whatever they want to get enjoyment from it. It is to be enjoyed after all, not endured!!

It increases the grip of the tyres when you lose traction or push over the grip threshold of the tyres. In the real world something like such would be impossible in the way its implemented in game. Its obvious that it will make you faster in that it does not have any real drawbacks other than increasing grip when you need it.

Driving aids are there for players who are used to arcade type racers or are finding certain cars difficult and they can be used to improve cars just like in real life. SFR is taking that concept to the next step, as it provides no drawback, it states in game that it's a feature for beginners. Though if you like it, crack on and use it.

Most drivers will just drive using 1 abs and everything else off for 99% of situations. Though sometimes the game forces it on, like in the latest seasonal events. Why, i'm not sure.

Not entirely true. I play with the DS3 (directional button for steering, X for gas and square for brake) with skid recovery force turned off and every other assist turned off as well (including ABS). Like others have said, it replaces the standard physics from GT5 prologue and provides more grip. Suitable more for beginner players.
