Skid Recovery Is Not Assist, but Cheat? RX7 race?

I rather like SRF, I use it in all the races and challenges I do (if it's allowed) since it makes it easy enough for to complete whatever event without spoiling the enjoyment. I tried some races without aids and it wasn't fun for me to keep spinning out over and over again. I know there has to be people out there like me who just want to screw around with the game and have fun...that's what these aids are for. I don't have the time or desire to practise over and over again until I can good. I just want good, out of the box fun.

As the physics in this game gets closer to real world, the use of a controller to handle oversteer on some cars can become almost impossible.
I think the skid recovery was meant to balance the difference between the wheel and the controller.

This video of the Stig driving the Caterham R500 shows the multiple inputs that he has to make to the steering to compensate for the handling of the car, trying to make this many adjustments with a wheel is a challenge, but almost impossible to do with a analog stick, added with precise throttle response.

My view on this is if your using a wheel then you may not need it, if your using a controller then this might be your only choice with some cars.

Agreed 100%. I only use SR when I'm driving the FGT or the X2010 because of the car being so powerful and feeling as if the car could spin out without any control of mine to prevent it. Other than those cars, I never use it because I've not noticed much change in my lap times.

I've pretty much done all the events without any aids other than abs 1. I started using the SR for the new seasonal challenges and the X2010 challenges and in a way actually find the input from the wheel to be more realistic with it on than off.

I know it's been said that GT is the ultimate simulator, but in reality this game doesn't even come close to representing what it is like to drive a car, much less at the limit. It may in theory and principle, but way to many variables that we as humans use to perceive and sense what's going on are missing.

At the end of the day, it's a game and if people want to use SR or bounce of walls, cut through grass or find a way to jump walls to cut half the course, than more power to them. 👍

I drive with a wheel (Fanatec PWTS) and have all aids off except ABS to 1, simulation setting on wheel options menu, but have always used SR. With it off the car just spins on me with no warning, with it on I feel like I can sense the weight shift and catch the car before it spins. It feels more realistic to me with it on.

There is also a very good chance I just suck at this game too...

There's a good chance that the Caterham shown has got less than 900º turning radius, or at least some proportional gearing that decreases effective turning radius close to the center position. One thing I find lacking in GT5 is any ability to dial in a different steering radius, or apply any form of non-linearity to it. Catching oversteer as quickly as can be done on a high strung racer requires a bit more response than most of the GT5 cars have. That it was changed in the game for the karts and the FGT (and presumably F1 cars) shows that it CAN be done. PD need to give us the option to adjust this, particularly for tail-happy cars...

This community is more on the hardcore end of things and PD really needs an option to make the game more accessible to the average gamer. It may turn the game to more of an arcade game, and that is ok if people want it. Just be thankful the game has the ability to turn it off and make it much more real! I have no problems letting gt5 be more accessible to people around the world.

I really am amazed at the level which people care how OTHERS play this game or feel that PD is somehow not a company that is out for profits but some kind of slave to making them a game that fits their exact specification. Lighten up, play the game how you want and before complaining about these OPTIONAL features just remember PD is trying to reach a broad audience so they can make money, like all companies want to.

Meh, I don't mind the SRF, I'm used to competing on iRacing, but when I'm on my PS3, I'm not at all taking it to the same level, just using my trusty DS3, so I drive with it on. Is it unfair in A-spec? No, everyone can do whatever they want in A-spec. Is it unfair online? No, not really, if the host doesn't want people to use SRF in their session, just disable it for that session, if the host wants people to use it, find another session if it's a problem for you.

I've only had to do the Sebastian Vettel event without SRF, because I hooked up my wheel to the PS3 to do it, and with SRF on I couldn't feel anything.

Is it a cheat? Not in my opinion, in my opinion it's just like driving with standard physics in GT5P. Besides, driving with the DS3 leaves you at such a huge disadvantage relative to wheels that it's impossible to compete with wheel users.

The addition of the standard physics/skid recover force is good in that it allowed PD to give us a realistic physics mode for the harder core fans, while still being able to cater to the masses who may prefer GT4 like physics.

Why? Are you stuck if you don't archive gold? The only problem without SRF is that we are not going to go gold, only silver most of the time. And I think that is good, because it places everyone whenever he must stay.

Maybe in Arcade Mode, but in Online or even A-Spec I think is a bad idea to allow SRF.

Is SRF going to make you advace faster in A-Spec? Maybe, but sure you can advance faster if they give exp you for free (what if they give it just to enter a race, had you won it or not?). If you want easy exp, just ask for them.

Is SRF making you happier? It's a pleasure to receive a gold when you know you have done it well but, are you happy when you receive a gold without effort? It makes me sad.

Things need to be balanced. You wouldn't win a gold without merit. It's just my oppinion.

Did you not read the post? Kids would want to get gold in A-spec too. If they can't, they'll hate the game.

regarding the focus, the race is actually impossible to win without the SRF...
i've tried it many many many times but still unable to catch the 1st..
after i checked the replay, I subsequently found that the car in 1st is actually using sports hard not comfort soft..

for the rx7 race... SRF n traction control IS A MUST..
its just way way too hard without them...

hope it solved the problem

cheers :)

I keep hearing about the RX7 challenge. Is that from bonus race 1 or 2? I haven't checked out the races after the focus.

If it's the one from the first set of races, I beat that one from the first time without SR..with the DS3.

edit-

"Hearing"= other threads.

I went through the Amateur races with SRF on (having been convinced of its usefulness by the stupid Lotus Top Gear Challenge). After I won the last race, I turned it off.

The problem with it is that every car started to handle the same. I felt no difference between the Civic Type R, the Mustang Mach 1, or the Ferrari 512BB.

That said, I completely understand why one would want to use it.

Iv used it for the nascar's at the nurburgring. Without it I was struggling to get anywhere near the other cars as I couldn't push it too hard for fearing a crash. It took the fear of spinning out away so I could concentrate on everything else. The only other time I used it was the top gear lotus challenge.
