Hey Guys,

Waiting on my G27 and Playseat bundle, and was wondering about the gears system in GT5. Can you skip gears? I.e. Go from 4th straight down to 2nd? or to you have to go 4-3-2.

THANKS!

On the DS3 I'm pretty sure you have to go through each gear, no skipping, unless someone knows a glitch or trick or hidden setting. On a wheel I really can't say.

Yes you can.👍 When using full manuel mode(at least on a T500). I have always referred to this as "block shifting" i.e, 5th to 3rd/ 4th to 2nd, and so on.👍

I don't but my good friend does and he says best purchase he had made in long time,he used to just have his wheel on a iron board believe it or not.I would love one but misses says not enough room for it I'm sure i could find room.

Yeah you can mate, even on pad, if you're at for eg 120mph in 5th gear and you hold the handbrake for a couple of seconds before it spins out, it goes into neutral so you can put it into whichever gear you like. But yeah, defo on H shifter

While that may be possible on the DS3, I can almost guarantee it will result in slower lap times compared to using the main brakes and downshifting through all the gears quickly. Not trying to be negative, just realistic.

Of course it will result in slower lap times but that's beside the point because he's asking if it's possible.

With my G27 I always skip gears when downshifting before entering hard turns, I'm faster when I shift just once and slowly go off the clutch instead of keeping the clutch down while going through several gears with the shifter.
I think its simpler, faster that way, I can focus more on apex, the brake and my right hand spends less time on the shifter and more time on the wheel.

As example, on the Nürburgring at Bergwerk & Klostertal I shift down from 6th to 3rd or 2nd depending on the gear ratio.

With the G27 you can skip shift and another trick if you tap the clutch by accident and get stuck in natural just hit one of the shift paddles to resume the gear.

And from neutral to second gear on a pad ? How is that acheived? Is there a clutch button?

If you hold the handbrake for about 2 seconds, the car goes into neutral and then you can change the gear and press on the throttle to resume acceleration in that gear

Are you not going into first before engaging second gear? Or am I missing something here.

ok that all sounds excellent.. because It wouldve been a bit crap if you had to go 6-5-4-3-2 really quickly if you needed to slow fast :D

Thanks so much for everyone's input!
