I figured this game really needed its own thread.

I rented and put 30 hours into Skyrim since it was released on Friday. I am currently level 13. Been taking my time exploring and experimenting with different armors, blacksmithing, magic, ingredients, and potions. Such an amazing and overwhelming game. I will be buying this for sure sometime before christmas. I killed my 8th dragon last night. The crazy part is that 5 of those dragons were in the very first town Riverwood and keep showing up. Which is awesome for the battles but bad for my villagers. Now my blacksmith and his wife are dead. Oh well if I have to sacrifice a couple villages for epic dragon battles, thats fine with me. I do fear however this could create problems with the campaign if the wrong person dies. Or worse, the supply dealers. If they die, that would suck. But I dont think they can since they "spawn" in the shop. However, other villagers that work outside or walk from house to house can die for sure.

I have found a couple bugs and had a couple freezes but overall very smooth experience. I even had an arrow stuck in my head for probably a good 15 hours of gameplay. The dead dragon bones glitch and bounce all over the place sometimes making the framerate drop and do strange things. So far no game ending bugs for me but I make sure to save all the time. I think I am on my 330th save between 6 files.

Skyrim is just so awesome. I never cared much for Oblivion but I love Skyrim. There are just too many great things about this game to even know where to start. I like how you can combine magical robes and items to your armor using the enchantment tables. That way you dont have to carry 2 articles of clothing. I use magic a lot so I used to carry one robe that had 75% magica regen. But then I learned about combining the materials. One thing I will suggest is to make sure you purchase the most expensive Soul gems. They can be anywhere between 900-1200 gold. Dont waste your time on Petty Soul gems or anything else. Buy the most expensive ones and use them. I do have some confusion about certain armor will only take certain effects like fire instead of magic. Still havent quite figured that out yet. FOund an awesome gold shield, upgraded it at the blacksmith, then could not add magic to it. Only Fire restance.

I can easily see Skyrim as GOTY 2011 material. Right up there with Uncharted 3.

Some random pics.

I'm still on the fence about Skyrim. Oblivion was fun, but it wore of quickly, in my opinion. Purely because I found the game to be severly lacking once you were done messing around. It always felt so slow paced, in terms of both story and combat.

I actually felt the same way about Fallout III and NV, they were game I lost all interest in halfway through. Biggest problem is, there's Dark Souls. Guess I'll wait a bit and watch a "Let's Play", or something.

I did not like Oblivion at all but loved Fallout 3 and love Skyrim. Skyrim feels a lot more like Fallout 3 but in a good way. If you got bored of Oblivion, Fallout 3, and NV then you will want to skip Skyrim. Its pretty much Fallout 3 mixed with Oblivion. You probably wont like it.

I picked up my copy yesterday finally. After installing it (less than 5 gig? so small) I set to creating my character a Dark Elf called lolz. He's a real douche bag who wasted no time honing his thieving & archery skills.

I've only just made it to the first town. I'm in two minds about this game at the moment.I haven't had any real wow moments yet. Visually it's nice but I've not been totally blown away (not like Battlefield3 which looks simply amazing) Skyrim looks like a console port. Visually the Witcher 2 is a head of Skyrim as well.

I'm yet to find all the little customization things that I'm sure are hidden around the place so I won't comment or complain. I'm sure they are there, after all it is a Bethesda game. The menu however is terrible.... why can't I view my character in the menu. That's pretty much a given standard for all RPGs. Helps visualize what you have equipped on your character. I play in first person mostly so I didn't realise for a long time that my dude was getting around bare foot and no pants. Even F3/NV was better at letting me know that I was clothed.

So far petty gripes, I'm not totally sold yet, but then again, I haven't had time to explore, which is usually where the fun begins. The controls felt a little sluggish on the standard settings, but I've tweaked my mouse sensitivity and the in game sensitivity as well and it's much better now.

Only have about 6 hours on my profile (PC) but I watched a few other people play over the weekend. Thoroughly addicted.

I really cant say enough how much I love Skyrim. I experimented last night for about 3 hours with the enchantments and forging. Just so dang awesome when you make your very own weapons and armor, then upgrade them with the the forging, THEN add your enchantments to it. Very very very rewarding. Learning about the "disenchants" is also very helpful. It basically breaks down the magic from that item, then you can add that magic to something else like a ring, sword, shield, helmet, armor, or anything else you want. Now almost every item I am wearing including my ring has at least 28% magica or 28% magica regeneration. I do have some boots that are about 12% fire resistant but I plan to disenchant those and make some boots that are 28% fire resistant. All the older itmes I had I give to my follower. Just remember, that to get the best enchantments you MUST get the GRAND Soul Gems. Dont use the petty soul gems or other weak gems. Get the Grand Sould Gems for the best results. They cost about 1,200 gold.

I also transfered all of my blacksmithing items to a barrel thats right next to the blacksmith. Much easier and faster to forge that way. After I got my character all upgraded with new awesome forged and enchanted items, I leveled up and now I can make him even better. I didnt fight a single enemy, just improved my character. I still want to find a better bown and better shield but not having much luck with that.

It's good, but Dark Souls is better. I have to uninstall Skyrim because it won't use the hi-res textures when installed. Bethesda $%^$ up!

Haven't visited the forum in a few days because I'm completely hooked on this game. I'm actually a bit overwhelmed on just how much there is to do, so I'm starting to slow down and just start clearing out my quest log.

Well, a few bugs were to be expected, I guess. If I was to get the game, I'd wait for at least two or three patches to be released.

Since I haven't played Skyrim yet, I won't comment on which game is better... However, I think that both games follow vastly different philosophies, as to how they want to present themselves to the player. Dark Souls impressed me a lot in that regard, so it's a bit hard to get myself hyped up for something that's, well, more mainstream than that.

On to a new game already? Thank god I tend to only play a few racing games and Resident Evil or I wouldn't get anything done in my life. And I'd be poor too. eek!!

Arranging fallen foes into compromising positions never gets old.
Thats the funny part about the picture I have above, I did not even arrange them like that. I entered a battle and as I killed each enemy that is exactly how they landed.

My wife also just got hooked on this game last night. So I will have to buy it for sure in the very near future.

I also found out after watching my wife, why its much harder for me to lockpick. It has to be something with the race choice. She is an elf and I am an Imperial and it is MUCH harder for me to lockpick.

I am currently juggling quite a few new games. MW3 (rented), Skyrim (rented but will buy), Saints Row 3 (bought), Halo Anniversary (bought), GT5, Forza 4, and several others. Very busy time of the year for gaming.

Saints Row 3 came out? Ugh, I thought I had more time!

It's a good thing I have 11 days off coming up

So I killed my first dragon last night and I can now shout. The dragon was pretty easy actually. I was freaked out first but I've been busy specialising my dark elf in archery so it didn't take more than a few shots to bring it down.

I've been reading that the enemies don't scale like they did in Oblivion, which I think is brilliant news. I hated that so much. I like the notion that you can be over powered in a region and then you wonder into some other territory and have to flee for your life. I just hope the rest of the dragons put up more of a fight.

Actually, they do level with you. I think it's a little more balanced this time around though. I heard dragons get really tough as you level higher.

I have since read that there is a leveling system but it's worked differently to Oblivion. Still it's nice to have areas where you have to high tail it out of. I was being an ass last night and getting the giants to chase me around in circles. I was thinking it might be funny to get them to chase me into a town. I'll probably give that a go just to see what happens.

What bugs have you guys discovered so far? The first was the altar would not rotate until I exited the dungeon and returned. The next one has happened many times and it involves me falling right through the floor of my Breezehome and then landing in my living room a few seconds later.

I'm now 11 hours in and surprisingly I've yet to encounter any big issues. I got off my horse to fight a pack of wolves last night and the horse disappeared leaving me to travel on foot for a long time. I assumed it'd been killed by one of the pack but I thought it kind of odd that I couldn't locate the horses body but the next time I fast travelled to a city it had spawned at the stable. Compared to the fallout games, it's been amazingly smooth and problem free.

I think I may have caused the falling through the floor issue because in that room of my house I have over 200 books dropped on the floor. I better move them to a barrel or something and see if that fixes it.

I'm about 12 hours in and the biggest issue so far is Aela suddenly vanished from my game about 5 hours ago and hasn't shown back up yet. That's who I was going to marry... lol.

I just gave the marriage thing ago cause its not enough that I be bossed around in real life. Turns out Camilla is pretty subservient and makes me dinners and gives me profit from the business she runs. Little does she know the Dark Elf she married is a jerk that killed her brother just so I could loot his shop. Dragons are starting to turn up constantly now. Killed about 6 of them. I specialized in archery so they go down pretty quickly. This game is too addictive.

Been spending lots of time in Skyrim. Just leveled to 31 last night. Using a Sword and Board Nord with Heavy Armor. I think I have about 15 shouts now, but only use like 3 of them. Playing on the PS3.

I have to say, I hated Oblivion. I found it un-fun, and repetative. Skyrim is far from perfect, but lots of stuff to do. The randomness of some things are pretty cool. Like your part in the cival war, or the fact just walking around the wilds can lead to an in depth quest.

I have to say fights are getting more interesting as well. Started off getting my butt kicked in some areas. Giants, trolls, and mages were killing me fast. Now I can hold my own...or so I thought. I ran across a Dragon Priest. Damn. Fun fights there.

All in all I have no had no game breaking bugs. I forze up one time in the first hour of gameplay and have not had it happen again.

Yes leaving items laying around will cause issues for sure.

I fought my 10th dragon last night and I am now level 15. 6 of those dragon fights have been in the city of Riverwood. They just keep attacking me there. But I am not complaining, I love the dragon battles. Heather ended up playing most of the weekend so I only ended up playing a few hours over the weekend. I am guessing I am around 45 hours into the game now. Just taking my time. Been spending most of my time messing with the enchantments, mixing ingredients, cooking meals, and just looting. I still havent joined a guild yet. I really want to though but dont have any to join yet. If there is a guild at the college I want to join that.
