a 60s mercedes 300SEL 6.3.

300 horses in a staid looking benz. remove the 6.3 badge and one would ever know the difference, there was no external difference between the 6 cylinder and V8 versions.

Yeah beautiful cars. Also, theres the mid '80s 560S and mid '90s S600, which are quick for there size, just stick the S280 badge on the 400hp S600 :p

Get a beat up mid-late 80s BMW 325 manual. 0-60 mph in around 7.5 secs.

My personal car, 1986 Omni GLH Turbo.

It has been lightened and now weighs in at 2160 lbs with a full tank of race gas. The car has nothing more than a boost controller, 3" cat-back, and an aftermarket clutch and it has beaten numerous Camaros including a '69 SS 396, numerous Mustangs, a few turbo dsm's, a modified Lancer Evolution, and the last race before the 250,000 mile motor gave out - a brand new SRT-4 by a little over 1 car length.

None of them seen it coming. :D

i have a W124 300E, and i can tell a 500E when i see one. wheels/ wheelwell are really the only distinguishing features if you dont notice the high mounted driving lights with fogs on the deeper front valance.

but to me its a car i know not to mess with right away. just as i can always tell a regular 3 series from an M3. i fancy one. but prices have stayed in the $20s and im not happy buying a ten year old used car for more than about $8000.

a used car must be replaceable. i nearly bit on a $8000 E30 M3 when i bought my mercedes, but i needed a reliable daily driver whose parts would cost a fortune, so i chose the benz.

A lot of people can tell a 500E from the smaller V8 and 300E model, but I'd say it's still something of a sleeper.

a new S4 with A4 badging. a regualr 1.8t is 0-60 in like 8 sec. an S4 is mid 5's
also mk2 golf/jetta 16v
and old 5 series with a 528e badge

Yeah, but a lot more than badging is required there - the S4 has fully new body panels in several different areas. It's more likely to happen with the last model.

It has been lightened and weighs in at 2160 lbs with a full tank of race gas. With nothing more than a boost controller, 3" cat-back and a clutch, it has beaten numerous Camaro's including a '69 SS 396, a couple Mustangs, a modified Lancer Evolution, and the last race before the old motor gave out - a brand new SRT-4. I won by a little over a car length. :)

aw how cute.

SRT-4 with spoiler delete. Fast car. Slap on the (warrantied!) Mopar stage 3 kit and hit above 300whp. Under 30k for a brand new car. Probably 350wtq. Holy smokes that is quite a car...

isnt a sleeper a car you wouldnt suspect could kick arse?

surely that mean that cars that are immediately recognisable arent sleepers?

Here's one...

It looks like your average European coupe, but wait till you see the manufacturer. 👍

Yeah But when you find out its a Ferrari it isnt much of a sleeper then.

Aveo? Cobalt SS?

Anyways, a good sleeper for me would be, well, let's think... a Volvo 850 Turbo. I heard those were fast. A white Buick Grand National. Somebody outside the know might think there's a vacuum leak lol. The Oldsmobile Acheiva coupe looks slow but it is actually a bit fast. The Chevrolet Beretta 3.1 Sport. The neighbor down the street owns one, and, it don't look like much (and its an auto) but it moves. Not like a V35 Skyline, but it's pretty fast. The Skyline 350GT is a real sleeper, most people for one call it an Infiniti G35, and it's the type most people consider driven by all those rich laywers and doctors drive. An older BMW M3 4-door. Most people will think it's just another old BMW. The SRT-4 is kina sleeper, especially now that Dodge has an 'SRT Design' model which is all looks without the hardware.

A Chrysler Conquest is a real sleeper. So is a JZA70 Supra and CRX Si. Pretty much any stock sport compact with a squarish 80's design with a decent amount of horsepower can be a sleeper. I make a point of the word 'stock' since so many are modified.

Which reminds me, the predecessor of the Neon SRT-4; The Omni Turbo :sly:

You guys say that Buick's are good and I think that they are awful. We had one as a rental car when we drove to Minneapolis last week. It had bad performance compared to my father Infiniti G35 or something. When you braked the car to feet to stop. It felt like you were never going to stop. When you started out all of the cars passed you at the stoplight.

Stop posting here. You're practically twelve, your posts are riddled with stupidity and grammatical errors, and here you seem to be judging an entire brand based on a base-model rental car. Stop posting here.

I'm not trying to act like a fool, but, I think it's the mod's job to say that :D

Anyway, Man, this kid's gotta check out some classic Buicks, there are a lot of them from the 60's and 70's that look good

I didn't call him out in another thread, even though he sucked there too. I couldn't resist the temptation.

What do you hate the 1.8T for?

It's my wife's. It's trash, she knows it, but she clings to it because for all intents it's her first car. I had to replace the automatic transmission this summer and lately there's been a two or three second throttle delay because of the turbo lag, which I've decided is a mechanical problem rather than just "normal wear and tear". But I've moved to a place where domestic cars run amok, so there aren't any Audi specialists around to diagnose the problem. Due to the transmission replacement, I can't sell it for market value or anything close. So, a $17000 car a few years ago is now selling for $8000 even though I put in close to $3000. Logic? No. We're replacing it with a C320 4Matic as soon as is humanly possible.

*gazes at the wonderful brother to Monte*

If only the AeroCoupe had those kind of balls.... ball-bearings in the turbocharger of course...

And that 10-second reliant: Pwnage. Pure pwnage :)

Ooo I bet you are kicking yourself now? I've seen some go for USD 30k on ebay in the past year. Even though those Mercs are classy cruisers, I would have put my money on the M3 and bought a beater Impala or something for every day. :p
