Sleepers thread!

Definitely a sleeper. Very little evidence on the outside to suggest that it'd kill most other cars from a standing start.

My one isn't anywhere near on the same level, but it's the first that's sprung to mind as I was talking to someone about the other day.

I've always seen the 4-door, VTi version of the EK-generation Civic as a bit of a sleeper. Honda have probably never built a shape of Civic more suited to old ladies, but they still saw fit to drop 160bhp of 1.6 under the bonnet which was enough to see off most hot hatchbacks at the time, in the mid 1990s. That seems like a pretty good sleeper to me.

At the end, he says at 280km/u the side mirror folds in.

For me, this car is the all-out ultimate sleeper alongside the "Fram Truck" poster by MT.

Underhood it has a twin-Rotrex-blown LS2 that pushes 1,100+ hp at the rears:

And feeding that is the real eyebrow raiser: two complete fuel systems. The "octane on demand" setup runs the stock gas tank with fuel pump for puttering around town. When your foot stopms it, the extra set of injectors in the second fuel system kicks in delivering race gas from a trunk-mounted fuell cell. It's all maintained in control with BigStuff3's EFI with, of course, a completely custom tune.

The Sleeper theme runs trpoughout the car. The interior is rat-ladden fresh, the rollcage was hidden INCREDIBLY WELL in this car and you won't find a telltale Ratchet shifter, the Powerglide is controlled... by the horn button.

Even more: the rear steel wheels have been widened on the inside so the wheels won't have a deep dish and tell the game away. This car is a dragon on old sheep's clothing:

Best time the last time I checked was a low nine, and I think the thing ran Hot Rod's Drag Week just about two weeks ago, so it is still in hard trashing since the car was featured in 2009.

Since this vid was taken, that engine has already blown and been rebuilt with even more power.

i like volvos now :P

Good. And that motor has mere 2.5l of displacement, still Volvo's own motor.. It can be brought up to ~3l of displacement, 3.2l if you know what you're doing. Not bad for a 4-cyl motor.

Fast Mk1 Golfs? Why yes, we have those in Finland too..

550bhp out of Audi's 2l 16v lump, and topped out despite of VR6 transmission..

Wow.... I wouldn't have sold my mk2 GTI if I knew it could do that.

AWD swapped USDM Mitisubishi Galant. 4G64 block, Evo head/DOHC swap, running on 19psi on street trim. Exterior is all OEM Super VR-4 parts, done in real carbon fiber. Works wheels, 18x8.5, Brembo four pots in the front, dual pots out back. Guy is local to me, and these pics do no justice, this car is amazing.

On C16 race gas, and 25psi: 440WHP

On pump gas (93) and 19psi, it still laid down a respectable 362WHP.

Done on an AWD Mainline dyno, similar in HP numbers like that of a Mustang dyno.

It doesn't "look" like a sleeper, but here in the US...NOBODY expects a USDM Galant to be fast...let alone, AWD swapped and boosted. lol

and how is that a sleeper? WRONG thread. Cool car, wrong thread.

Because it's a USDM Galant. ;)

Even with it's exterior bits, everbody he encounters thinks it's slow. You should see the look on Evo owner's faces when it does mid 11's. lol

dudde, it wears a huge intercooler upfront, massive brakes and tires and wheels and such. Even if you may think it's slow, it's obvious something has been done to it. half the car is carbon fiber. Come on.

if it looked completely stock and ripped off 11s, yes, awesome sleeper. In this trim, it's just surprising.

Carbon Fiber VR-4 = Not a Sleeper.

Most car people WILL consider a VR-4 to be quick. If not, you're talking to the wrong (dumb) people.

lol

You guys really giving too much credit to the car. In a world full of Evos, STis, MKV GTi/R32s, SR20DET swapped S13's, LS1 powered F-bodies, GTOs, R/T & SRT-8 Chargers/300Cs/Magnums/Challengers, Mustang GTs, Fox Body Mustang with various 305 &351 powerplants, the mere mention of "Galant" and "fast" evoke laughter.

Sure, inside the group of Galant owners local by me, we all know about the VR4 Galants, and all the other variants. But the USDM Galant has no performance model, never advertised as a performance model. The twin turbo 2.5L V6 AWD VR4 never made it to the states, so if you aren't a fan of Galants...nobody knows what the hell is a Galant VR4. Not to mention, this Galant started life as a typical 4G64 powered 155HP grocery getter, most AWD Galants had V6 power, that's another variable most won't even give thought to.

I've shown pictures of this Galant to the various domestic forums I'm on (I also own a Pontiac) just pics, and this car was flamed beyond belief. Ricer and slow all were common in describing it, and it wasn't until I showed dyno vids and slips they quieted down. But still, the replies of, "It's a goddamn Galant, who in the hell wastes their time on one?"

That's the beauty of modifying a vehicle as this, even if it looks fast, and even with a big 'ol intercooler out front, people will bash you, and doubt you until you show them it is fast, and beat them in their own game.

THAT'S why it's a sleeper. ;)
