Slow Loading Times in Portugal

GTP is being slow again. It takes up ages to load up a page.

I am using Chrome, but it feels like I am using Internet Explorer or an even slower browser.

Just moved this post to its own thread here... Anyway, I just did a quick check and all systems are 'go'. I've also been loading a few pages but have not been able to detect any delays. A temporary clog in the tubes, perhaps?

No problems from me, apart from having to refresh the pages with F5 to be sure I get them updated, but I think that's a IE settings issue, not a GTP one.

It happens more frequently at night (past 9 p.m. (GTM), when there are more people acceding GTP. I think that may be the problem, but I get close to (at that time) 7 seconds of load page, when I just clicked on something and page was instantaneously loaded. This also seems to hit some areas more than others, has I seem to take some more time to open a P.M.

One thing good about it, is that the ads doesn’t seem to want to load.

Edit: I tried other web pages, and they seem to load fast as they normally should on chrome

Edit 2: I just notice one thing. When the ads load in one page, the other page I open, it opens it quick and normally. When the ads don’t load, the other page I open, the load takes more time. It is not taking the time it took to load today morning and yesterday night (GTM time), it is in fact more normal, and the ads do load more frequently.

That's definitely a setting with your cache, and is easy to fix. You might want to look into it!

Unfortunately, this sounds like network issue. Assuming our definition of page loading time is the same, 7 seconds is unreasonable for continental Europe. The time you are referring to does match up with our daily traffic surge, which typically lasts for the few hours when it's late evening in Europe, early afternoon on the East U.S. coast, and morning on the West coast. However, it is not taxing to GTPlanet's hosting infrastructure, and I frequently use the site during this time and experience no change in performance.

What other sites are you accessing that come in quickly? If they are hosted in your country or elsewhere in Europe, their traffic is almost certainly coming in to your ISP via a different carrier than GTP and may not be subjected to the same congestion. If you could run ping and tracert to gtplanet.net and share the results here (when you're experiencing slowness), that may be helpful.

I am experiencing those slows again. The other web pages, full of ads and designs and whatsoever take less time to open (like hi5; imeem, youtube, ultimate guitar) than gtplanet.

Here are the results of the ping and tracert tests

These are when GTPlanet is normal:

And these one when it gets slow:

What I find weird is that there is almost no difference at all in the results showed, and yet, when it is normal, it loads instantaneously and when it is slow, it takes up to 3 or even 6 seconds to open/load a page.

I think it can be something with my connection, but I found it strange in relation to other web sites.

Also, sometimes in the same set of time, let’s say past 9 p.m. (when this happens more often) I can load one page instantaneously, and the other takes an eternity to load. It is not a regular thing, but it happens more than it should.

Ah, very interesting, thanks for posting that. While the numbers are generally the same, the most significant changes do take place within your ISP's network. In fact, your requests are even going through entirely different NetCabo routers. Keep running the tracert tests and pay attention to those netcabo.pt router IP's to see if you can discover any correlation. 👍

Yep, I think you are right. Maybe a router problem, and they had to change things, and I was getting the transition part. I run the tracert a few more times today, the IP router of my ISP is the same has the slow one showed (that is one day more recent than the print screen of the quick one). And it seems even more quick than the quick one showed (even in the hour GTP is most acceded).

The pages no longer take that long time to load and load fully (while before, it didn’t load the ads and toke some time).
Here are the results anyway:

So I think for now, problem sorted. Thanks for the patience Jordan 👍

Wow, yeah, look how much lower those ping times are to the (previously slow) NetCabo routers! Hopefully it's a permanent change. :)
