I just noticed today that the list of smilies on the right side of the posting area is different. It looks like they are all in a different order and there are a few that weren't there before. I don't think this is a problem, but I'm just wondering what's up.

I think they change every so often. Switching in recently used smilies maybe?

Yeah I noticed it as well..... they keep changing... I thought it maybe was something to do with learning your most often used ones but now I realise its not that..... is it just some glitch?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. maybe Jordan would know? Maybe somebody is being a prankster and changing it?

I think it just displays a random selection of them, plus the regular, commonly-used ones.

I can't believe you only noticed this now, it's a vB thing. I remember noticing it years ago.

There is no general order that the smilies are displayed, although one can be defined. As such, they are displayed in a pseudo-random order. :)

I only did join a year and two months ago.

Is it an ongoing change or does it just kinda flip to a different order every so often?

Honestly, I am not sure how they are selected but there does appear to be some type of underlying logic (that's why I said they are displayed in a pseudo-random order). In vBulletin, you can give each smiley a "priority" over the others. I currently have all of the smilies in our database set to a priority of 1, so the mechanism that is used to determine which ones are displayed at the top is not clear to me.

Is it possible to implement more smilies to the database? Using smilies is concidered childish by some memebers but I think it is a big help for members like me whose first language is not English. It's not easy for me to express myself properly in English. Using smilies can avoid problems, misunderstandings, etc...

Thanks

We had hundreds of smilies years ago, but I trimmed them down to those which show some type of actual emotion. If there are some "emotional" smilies that you have in mind (which fit in with the look and feel of our current collection), I will certainly consider putting them in.

Ok thanks. I see the smilies as an extension of what I'm trying to write down. Some of the "emotion smilies" are not adequate enough to truly express what I want to say.

I don't know if I'm the only one with this minor problem.

Had to make a new post. If I just edited my previous post, this one wouldn't be read.

Isn't it possible to add the messenger emoticons?

I would guess so. Just use the

Huh. They are back to the way I remember them being. Maybe the network (I'm on an airport one) might make a difference?
