SMS 570 and 570X Challenger go into production, each with 500 and 700 hp respectively


Steve Saleen's SMS outfit is ready to take the SMS 570 Challenger and SMS 570X Challenger into production.

These will be the first vehicles produced in SMS's Signature Series line, which will also include high-performance versions of the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro.

The 570 and 570X Challenger are based on the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and will feature a host of SMS performance parts including the SMS Red Butterfly Induction hood and the SMS 296 Supercharger.

The SMS 296 Supercharger sits atop of the Challenger's 5.7 liter Hemi engine and will boost power to 500 horses for the 570, while taking the 570X to a raging 700 hp.

SMS Challengers will also come with new components to improve suspension and aerodynamics. SMS editions also including new wheels, tires an cabin tuning with premium leather.

The SMS 570 and 570X Challenger are scheduled to go into production this month. Prices are 60,000 US dollars for the SMS 570 and 70,000 for the 570X.

Both vehicles will be available for order from your local Dodge dealer.

I'm in love:drool: I hope the car will be avalible in the real GT5. Before the Shelby Cobra was my second favorite car (Dodge Viper was my first favorite car) but now, dodge has reclaimed the title of being the best company out there (in my head that is). Even If Dodge didn't really create it.
 
700 horses running through an autobox? Blasphemy. (Same goes for the Merc SLR, before anyone says anything.)

Still, I wouldn't mind owning one.
 
Wow, the entire car is badass until you get to the back. That fake diffuser and those exhaust tips are fugly.

The Veyron and GT-R do it too but I haven't heard that much complaining. Do we know if this'll use a torque converter or some arrangement of automatic clutches?

As neat as it is, I really wish they had made it a road legal production model like the old one.

Then again, they'd probably fail and just turn it into another trim option instead of a real pony car.
 
It should assuming they stiffened up the suspension a bit and switched the rubber around. The Challenger is no slouch (Camaro either), but the Mustang... Ish ish. You take what you can get, but you can't expect crazy slalom speeds either.
 
Steve Saleen was kicked out of his own company, this has nothing to do with Ford. I believe SMS is talking about doing a Camaro package as well...

True. And they are massively heavy. I haven't kept track of the suspension details, but do they all use a solid rear axle? I'm pretty sure that version of the Mustang does... but I can't keep track.
 
The Challenger and the Camaro both utilize the best in modern technology and design, essentially running the same underpinnings as their sedan counterparts (Charger and G8 respectively). That means independent setups out back, to make the performance people happy.

Crazy when our pony cars can do more than go straight, eh?

Erm, the best of the last couple decades for the Challenger. The Challenger is still running the rear suspension of a 1995 E-class.

Does that make this car more or less the equivalent of a AMG CLK-Class?

A Mustang with a heavily boosted 4.6 running the old Teskid block would have a field day making the Camaro and Challenger look foolish on track. :p
 
Very true, but it isn't as though we can completely write off the performance of the GT (as it stands) either. They did a pretty good job with the old Bullitt, and the new GT otherwise springs forward from that. To be honest, throw an EcoBoost V6 under the hood, and it would be a lotta fun.

Low weight + Crazy Power = WIN
 
The EcoBoost would be massive fun indeed, especially backed with a six-speed. And being a V6 it could easily be mounted a decent bit behind the front axle centerline.

Although, the EcoBoost six wouldn't make sense in anything other than an SVO model, which I would like to see sticker right around 30k and include noticeably upgraded suspension etc. Perhaps even some sort of IRS.

IRS would make more sense for an SVO-type model than for the GT mainly because, well, it's an SVO and the GT is well, a GT. SVOs would be noticeably biased towards handling whereas the GT is simply a street brawler made to smash anything else, even though in this case the SVO would be quicker until Ford goes to a 4V head on the 4.6...

I was under the impression that he was removed from the head position? Hmmm. Internets are tricky...

Either way, its probably good that SMS will be tinkering with a bit of everything than doing only Mustangs, or only F-150s, etc.
