Smurfing is when a veteran player creates a fresh account and then plays on it.

It's called Smurfing because the player appears to be "smaller" than they really are.

Is this against the rules? And when I say rules, I mean the official rules, not personal opinions on what the rules should be.

I am 99% certain this is not against the rules, but I would like to get other views.

Also, if you want to give your personal opinion on the practice of Smurfing, then I welcome those, too, but I am primarily interested in the actual rules.

^ That's tanking DR on purpose. Starting a new account for the achievements doesn't make sense, why would you want them on a different account? I do see people bragging about having a S/S account in every region. Making a new account to play in a different region to see how you stack up there makes sense.

Some people make new accounts to drive for fun while maintaining S/S in their main account. I doubt anyone does it to get the achievements again, what would be the point of that?

Smurfing is done for a few reasons;
A veteran player wants to play with his friends and not ruin his/her competitive ranking.
A veteran player wants a sub account to play more stress free, or not worry about always playing according to the meta.
A veteran player wants to play against people not as good as him/her so they can win easily.

I'm sure there are more reasons than that, but that's what I can come up with quickly.

Reason #1 doesn't really apply in this game as we don't have grouped matchmaking, and this isn't a team game.
Reason #2 and #3 apply in this game, I'm sure people have experienced a very good DR. D or C driver driving an off meta car and winning simply because they're actually DR A or S.

Is it against the rules? No,
Can't do anything to stop it, so why even waste any time worrying about it.

My personal opinion is that you shouldn't have more than one account per region. I think it's great to race people around the world and also allows more time options for the FIA races.

I'm kind of against having multiple accounts in the same region. Seems like it might encourage bad behavior since you could have both a "clean" and a "troll" account.

What about having a Global account that you could race anywhere? Or maybe a Global daily race or championship?

My mistake. I didn't read it properly. Sorry.

I'll try again...:p

I think incognito accounts go against the grain. An S/S driver will still be an S/S, even as an E/B. They're just a fish out of water down there, wasting their own time and anyone else who genuinely belongs there as they've no chance of getting near them, and even if that S/S driver doesn't qualify and starts from the back, the E/B driver won't know that, will try to defend and will likely cause problems for others around them.

How's that?:D

True. They usually start up front though. I've seen those smurf accounts. B/S driver with a near top 10 qualifying time, then look them up on Kudos Prime and they only has 30 races or so and 10 days logged.

The ones that don't qualify are more often tanking their DR. I've had S/S drivers start in the back in A/S to D/S rooms. It's far less common to see a smurf D/S driver overtake half the field. I did see another C/S account qualified in the middle of an S/S to A/S room yesterday.

However when your DR.A or higher and want wins it's much easier to lower your SR to sub 90 and get put on pole in B/S to D/S rooms. Even easier to win at A/A or S/A. No need to tank DR.

The problem would be making a sub account to drive like an ass. No clue if that happens, too many other asses around for those to stand out :)

When you first turn on the PS4, it has an option like "Create new user" and follow the steps to create a new PSN id. You have to use a different email and set your location (which can be in a different region), but you do not have to buy another PS Plus.
Thank you...

I don’t think it’s bad at all or maybe that’s because I’ve done it. Once I got to S/S on my main account I made a US account to see how the competition is. I do feel bad when you take a race from a driver whose DR class is much slower.

I really want to have an account in europe region. How do i do that ? Do I need VPN to trick the PS+ registration server ?

Some players like to start a game again, but are not able to due to always online. One option is to create a new user One such game is Ubisoft's The Crew. Another reason is that in Gts players like to race against other areas, Emea, asia and americas. Plus having accounts i all areas bags all the best content on the ps store from around the world.

I started doing dailies on my wife's account and got to DR B SR S in like 2 days, was pretty much 1st-2nd in most races on the way up.

I guess the only downside to smurfing is deflation of the total points available for the DR classes. DR wins and losses equal out at every race and DR is capped at 75K so 1% of the players won't amass 99% of the wealth / points. Yet if you make a secondary account and level it up to DR.S you take another 50K to 75K out of the ecosystem while leaving the other account dormant.

Basically by getting to DR.S twice, you make it harder for others to level up. Although in the end it's all relative and the actual designations don't mean much. Yet besides wins, you are also taking points away from the lower ranks!

Actually, if you have some friends in another region, you may want to create an account in that region to be able to do a few sports mode races with them. It's always fun trying to get matched with people you know. That's why I'm considering to get a US account someday. I wouldn't run another Euro account though.

As for people who get new accounts in their own region, I think it's mainly people being in a new team, or having a team name change, so they create a new account to have a matching tag in their username. There's a lot of things going on right now with teams in France with a couple teams having actually signed real sponsors (TX3 with LDLC and Oscaro having another name I can't remember right now). There might also be a few people who got their main accounts suspended as well in the lot.

I have two North American accounts.

One I use only for FIA events and lobbies. Occasionally for a daily race if its one of my favorite/best track and car combos.

The other is strictly for fun. I use it to race daily races without worrying about my DR getting tanked by idiots.

I drive with the same attitude on both accounts. Clean is first priority.

I have a NA account that I sometimes use to drive in FIA events. I do this because they start at midnight (NZ time) in my region and sleep is sometimes necessary.

Some people use Smurf accounts to use exploits, just to see if there will be any repercussions. Case in point is corner cutting at streets of willow yesterday. The top two times were from new accounts...

I often wondered if i should make an account so i could Giraffe because with smurfing i actually look just the right size..

I have 2 accounts as I have 2 ps4 machines and like to race with/against friends who are not PS4 users in Lobbys. If I get enough interest going , I may add more accounts. Then we can sort of do the old internet party in the basement deal. It's a way to get others involved in sim racing. To do this, you have to get the new account up to level 30? to open the Lobby's. It's way more fun than 2 player racing in arcade mode.

I had some pretty good luck with the Alpine at the Tokyo Thunderdome this week until the last race of the day. I saw someone I'd not run across before, with a D/C rating. His pole position was almost 5 seconds faster than the second place qualifier. After the race, I went to the top 10 list, and he was #4. The fastest lap he turned in the race would have put him at #1. Might have been fun for him, I guess.

I did get second place, but I was a half minute behind. :ouch:

For CS GO but relevant at 1:15 for the smurfing problem at basically all competitive games.

This really dont have to be a smurf account. When I started out on my main account I had to start as a E/B driver (like everyone else), but already from the start I had pace to be top 10, so first 2 weeks was just like that, and that is my main account, no smurfing.

When you create another account, do you need to pay for another PS Plus membership?? Asking for a friend......

If you are adding a new account on a PS4 which already has a PS+ membership then no. My Sons and I share a PS4 which has only a single PS+ account. The PS4 system is set up for multiple users. I can still use my European account even though I've since moved to Asia.

I have a second account purely so I can play in a different region, it’s roughly the same DR as my main account.

It only took me a few races to get to my usual rating (A/S), I must admit it felt kinda mean taking wins off other drivers on way up and it was in no way rewarding at all. I don’t understand the reason why you’d deliberately stay in lower ranks.

Just to add this, I did a nations cup race this evening and finished 17th, I gained 500DR points because I was racing much quicker people, don’t mind coming low down the order when it means that!
