The race start is defined as the start of qualifying in each race 1 and the start of the countdown timer in each of the reverse grid races. Once the race is started, by these definitions, the host is not to stop the race for a disconnected driver. The reason for the disconnection does not matter.

I went digging, and came across this answer as well. The procedure was done correctly then for the most part except it was started by a non-designated host. What happens if the Host (myself) was the one that dropped out as I did, and the room shifted to a non-hosting driver. Should that driver take the driver count and start the race, or should the room be remade by the backup host or the host upon his return and then manually grid? Just want to clarify since I could not find specifically a rule on that. Thanks @JLBowler.

@llNovall what about C3 R2? Why didn’t you get in for that one?
I was making sure we had no non-members in the room before entering, and was going to enter for the head count before having the race started. I'm clarifying with JLBowler, but we probably should have remade the room for the second race with myself or the backup host. See JLBowler's reply for clarification when we get it.

Once everyone got done with Qualifying, I asked who inherited the room and it was @sountiger. I don't think the room needs to be remade; and that is why the back up host should be the 1st one to join the room after it is created.

On the reverse grid race, he did Jump the gun and started without doing all the normal pre-race checks, but I think everyone was ready and willing to do a restart.

Also, I want to comment a few observations about the qualifying process.
  • The 5 second gap was not respected by all. Some took significantly longer to start their run. In fast / small tracks like Interlagos could cause the 1st driver to catch up to the end tail of the field if the 5 seconds is not respected.
  • At least on one race, a driver having committed mistakes without going off track was caught up from behind, but it seemed that either he was not aware of the driver behind him that has already caught up to him, or he deliberately continued to 'race' even making side contact when attempting to pass.
  • Pole position is frequently decided by just hundreds of a second; having to avoid 'slower' traffic should not be desired outcome.

Clairfication. If you go off track pull off and do not re-enter. If you go slightly off and get right back on and then get caught from behind, you need to let the guy behind you go. You had a five second head start. If you lost that in a lap and a half, you're not winning the pole anyways.

Qually is not the race. If you get caught from behind on qually be kind enough not to block. Leave room for the driver to pass.

All drivers will complete an out lap and one hot lap for qualifying.

If, at any time during the out lap or the hot lap, a driver leaves the racing surface for any reason, they are to pull completely off the track and out of the way and wait for the qualifying session to end. They are not to attempt to re-enter the track for any reason.

Once qualifying is started or the countdown timer is started for a race the only reason to restart it would be for connection issues listed in the SNAIL OLR P&G thread. I'm on break at work but off the top of my head reasons would be mass disconnects, incorrect grid, stuck driver procedure but not just that the host disconnected. The room should be closed and reopened after that race is complete and new room opened by primary host or back up host unless the individual that has become the host can do the job and there are no objections. That last part is unofficial but it's been done before just to keep the night moving and others have pitched in to help the new host.

I only have one more question on the subject regarding qually. As in the example that happened to @iiNovaii ; if anyone disconnects while qualifying, but then he is able to get back before the actual start of the race; I am assuming that is ok?

Given the format for qualifying that we currently use, yes that is acceptable. But only because no extra adjustments need to be made.

They should be treated as if they went off track and not be allowed to complete a lap. This would mean they start at the back of the field.

@llNovall I can do replays.

Hey Wolf,
Any chance you would want to take over primary hosting duty moving forward. I noticed practicing with you hosting seemed to be pretty stable. No big deal if not. Thanks.

Good morning fellas,

Regret to inform you guys that I won’t be able to make it tonight. (I’ll be in Minnesota) Hope you have fun clean races!

Hey guys I'm hoping to be present for tonight's races, after finally getting over this flu! Anyway I haven't had any seat time this week so I haven't had a chance to practice, and will be working until this afternoon some time so hopefully will get a couple hours in later today, but tonight will be all about racing with friends and loggin laps for me. :D

I was looking forward to race ya buddy! ok whatever your doing there, have fun!

Will the room number for tonight be posted here?
it is a lot easier to send a friend invite to me and some of the other drivers so that you can see it by just selecting rooms with friends. You can also search for 'SnailRacing.Org" but yes I will also post the room number in the main thread.

I'll plan to do a mini warm up of all 3 combos from 2000-2100. The 1st 2 combos are a bit tricky coming out cold.

You are more than welcome to follow the beacon :dopey:

2 All D4 drivership! On a serious note:

Before entering the D4 room for tonight; everyone, please clear your cache, restart your playstation and your router. Doing this prevents all of us to have issues with cars stock on grid, lagging, etc.

I have to wake up at 04:30, so our objective is always to keep the night on schedule and be done by 23:30.

Lessons learned from the last 2 weeks. Everyone followed the process very well on the qually session; but then on the reverse grid, many drivers remain @Pits. ALWAYS get out and do a visual check at turn 1. These basic things help avoid any delays and we can promptly resolve the issue if everyone follows these simple steps.

Lastly, if you are told that you are lagging; please clear you cache and restart the app. Thursday night was a nightmare with a lot of cars getting stock on grid, but Friday and Saturday was a lot smoother.

If you are unsure about anything, please ask. I don't remember who asked the question, but I think it was a fellow D4 driver. The rumble strips at the bus stop @ Seaside are legal (your tires do not need to be on black) The 1st part of the bus stop is the only place where you can put all 4 tires out of bounds.

See below, this process should be executed fairly quickly:
This is taken directly from the SNAIL OLR Policies and Guidelines. It is in relation to drivers that can't see each other and driver stuck on the grid. This is how the situation should be handled and it should be handled quickly and without argument from the drivers. The host and division manager have a job to do to get the racing started. They shouldn't have to deal with anyone who isn't willing to follow directions and written policy. If anyone has any questions on this policy, ask them in the thread and I will provide you an answer based on what is already established as rule.

Special Instructions for invisible drivers or glitch race starts.

1. In the event that all drivers are not able to see all other drivers on track the host should ask that all affected drivers leave the room and reenter. If this does not fix the issue any driver that can not be seen by everyone else in the room should be asked to leave the room for the night. Example: Driver A can not see Driver B. The rest of the room can see Driver B but not Driver A. Both drivers should leave the room and reenter. Upon reentering, the problem is the same. Driver A should leave for the night as the rest of the room can't see them. Driver B can stay because the only person that couldn't see them was Driver A. In the event that drivers have left and reentered the room and everyone in the room can see both / all affected drivers but the affected drivers can't see each other, the driver who is highest on the priority list gets to stay and the other affected driver(s) should be asked to leave for the night.

2. In the event that a driver gets "stuck" on the starting grid, everyone will quit the race and we will restart the race with the grid set manually. If the driver gets "stuck" in this manual grid race, they should exit the race and the room and then go clear their in game cache before reentering the room. After that race is over, the room should close and switch to the back up host for the next race. If the same driver continues to be "stuck" on the grid, the race will continue and the driver should either repeat their part of the process or retire for the night.

Does anyone have a USB keyboard?
Found that the tablet / app sometimes does not connect to the PS4, and even when it connects, sometimes it is very slow to load the interface to text.

My only keyboard (bluetooth) has not reconnected to the PS4. Who knows why. It connects to everything else but....

Having a USB keyboard connected to the PS4 is very easy to do the texter function.
