I'm thinking if you could go lower ISO and a bit longer shutter speed, the highlights would be a bit more toned down and shadows wouldn't be so bad..

It's more of my inexperienced photoshop skills that are displayed there.

I just looked at the exif from flicker. A smaller aperture, lower ISO and a bit longer ISO would make it look better IMO.
Here is what I did in Photoshop express.. It was a little difficult to keep the darkened edges but I don't like that in my shots. I should have tilted it too..
