Well I am. It's dumping up here in Vail, CO right now. It's actually the worst I've seen up here in quite some time as far as the roads are concerned. It's the really wet, heavy snow that makes driving a bung puckering experience.

I was leaving work about midnight and on my way home. I travel a bit on the frontage road before I get on I-70. I'm taking it casually cus I'm pretty confident in the snow, but once my cars ass end stared sliding out on me while just traveling in a straight line, I knew I was in for a rough ride home.

I get to the interstate and merge into some other traffic that is moving at an absolute snails pace (rightfully so.). I slowly make my way around 2 cars and am feeling confident. Until I see not 1, not 2, but 7 different wrecks in the 2 mile journey through Dowd Junction (a section of Interstate that is renowned for it's 50+ car pile ups in snowy weather.) I now start to get a bit nervous as the roads are getting even worse. But I know I'm coming up on a nice flat straight section.

There is one final hill. Usually the hills are no problem if I carry some speed through them, but there is a line of cars backed up while going up the hill. Top speed is 15mph. This is where things get pretty sketchy as the IS3 hates slow speed hills with the heavy snow. The car is fishtailing wildly and it's taking everything I got to keep her on the road. Only if these damn people in front of me would pick up the pace a bit.
The guy in front of me (about 2 or 3 car lengths) is in a newer model VW Jetta. He's front wheel drive so he should be doing well, and he is, until he just all of a sudden spins off the road right in front of me! Now I'm sh***in bricks at this point. Is he gonna hit me? I likened the situation to the in-car view at a NASCAR event where someone is spinning out of control right in front of the camera and the driver has to pick one way to go and hope it's the right move to avoid a collision. Well I chose correct. I veered a tad to the left, but soon as I do, his car slides left and then immedately off to the right. Phew!!!

I finally pull into Avon and have only 1 hill left to concqure. But this one that goes into my driveway involves a really slow U turn. Well, I didn't make it. Nor did I make it up my drive the next 4 times. Finally I get a good enough head start and hit it from the other direction so I can come up the drive fairly straight. I'm getting to the top where the road goes a bit off camber which makes the rear end of the car slide out, sliding out toward a retaining wall. I slam the gas, the smell of burning rubber permiates the cabin, and I make it to the top with only inches to spare between the rear of the car and the wall. I park haphazardly into a parking spot only to wonder if I will get out in the morning.

I'm sick of seeing this crap. Especially after the 3 weeks of 60+ degree weather. Let it be summer puhleeeeeeeees.
I definately don't plan on spending another winter out here, especially when the winters here last 6 to 7 months.

Here endith the rant. Thanks for listening.

*huff, huff, huff*

Don't scare me like that man! Every other sentence I was going, "Oh no! Boom and his IS300!". You know what you need to do... Subaru. :D

Do you still have your winter tires on? Plus, even one year in Colorado, you should know how the weather is. Cold... no, warm... no hot!... okay, snow?... Warm aga... STOP TORMENTING ME!

It's an idea that I have been pondering as of late. One of my co-workers is selling his very used, Subaru wagon. It's all wheel drive and I just want a beater car that will get me from point A to point B and not really have to care if anything happens to it. I offered him $900 cash in hand, but he's not biting, yet. :trouble: He has to move back to Argentina, so he can't take the car with him. He's gonna get desperate to get rid of it soon. I can wait him out. ;)

But it is time for a second car.

 Yeah, the saying up here goes, "Hey, if you don't like Colorados weather, then wait 15 minutes, it'll change."

I still have the snow tires on, but the tread is wearing a bit thin after 3 winters up here. They are still in decent shape, but they don't have the grip they did when they were new. I'm putting off buying new ones as I don't know how much longer I will be living up here.

Nonono... WRX buster. Or if you want the fancier, get the Legacy 2.5GT. 250hp/250lb-ft of torque.

Awwwww, boomy leaving me?!?

Snow? What dat? :D

Seriously boom, ever considered moving somewhere a bit warmer? ;) You know, I'm wearing shorts and short sleeves right now (and have been for the last month), and there isn't a single cloud in sight.

Sheesh... Even here in Massachusetts the snow is long gone. Did I tell you that the missus and I had a picnic on the beach almost a month ago? Grabbed a few Subway pita's and kicked back. A slight wind and a bit chilly, but it was the sandy beach 1/2 hour from our place.

If the snow is overwhelming and you decide to bolt for a few days, I've got a comfortable Futon in the bird room. They'll just greet you in the morning with an odd stare.

I'd have gone screwy long ago with that much snow.

I'm half tempted to go out there and kick Sage for rubbing it in.

This time of year is the time of false hopes here too. It goes from beautiful sunny days around 10-15 degrees that make you think it's over, and the next morning everything is covered up again in few inches of snow... :irked: It's a pita especially when you have ice tires that wear out really fast in hot weather and summer tires that are rather dangerous on snow.

Move to Arizona. Right now it's around 70 degrees and also not a cloud in sight. And if you want snow in the winter it's only three hours to Flagstaff. Plus there are no shortage of places for you to work out here.

Great story though. Glad you and your car made it intact.

I could never sleep in a room with a bunch of parrots... I'd be fearful of my nose.

It's actually kinda chilly right now... only 80° F. ;) :D

Yeah, forgot to mention that. I was tempted to skip to the end to see if the Lexie made it out okay. :)

Are you sure? Snow's forecasted here on Monday.

Rob, you really ought to move, but not to Arizona - how about Mississippi? You'd fit right in!! After a while you'd be begging for snow...

It's actually something that I've been considering. I was down there last November to visit my parents and I really enjoyed the area. I like the arcitechture there. All the building seem to match so well and look so neat and clean. However the sides of the roads there were rather littered with debris, especially around the Indian reservations, but I didn't see the downtown area either.

I hope the weather stays warm down there as I'm making a return trip to Chandler next week. Looking very forward to being there. Any suggestions for sights to see or things to do in the Downtown area? I didn't really get to explore there my last trip.

I'm hoping for some job opportunities to come up in either the San Diego (maybe stop by and throw snowballs at Sage), Las Vegas or Phoenix area. Keeping an eye out.

I have a funny feeling that it will snow at least once more out here, but I'm throwing caution to the wind and putting my summer wheels/tires on before I head to AZ. I felt so out of place driving around in AZ last time with the car wearing it's winter tires.

And Alex, I would definatley stop by and take you up on your offer if I'm ever in the Mass. area. I'll treat you and wifey to some of my cooking. I wonder how parrot tastes? ;)

Douglas. Mississippi?

Blah blah blah...

Ugh, I KNOW!!! :( It was "coming soon" until I found out about all the problems I can run into.
I want boost so bad but I have to move out of this high elevation. I've come to find that there are quite a few problems I can potentially run into boosting at this elevation. 8150 feet above sea level.
Nobody can tune for this elevation. Even if I tune in Denver, (my only real option) I'm still 3000 feet above that, and reach elevations as high as 11,000 feet on my way from Denver. All these elevation changes can really screw with the A/F ratios and if that happens I run a higher risk of ruining the motor.
Then on the flip side, if I do get my car tuned to this altitude, what happens when I drive down to Arizona for example which is near sea level?

I need to move soon. The boost bug is bitting hard, and as news of the first 10 second IS300 has been released, the bug is bitting even harder.

*smacks boom*

READ MY LIPS!

S... U... B... A... R... U!!!

There's a guy here doing 12.8 in an STi at 4,800ft. He did 13.4 stock as compared to Car and Driver's 13.2. Thats it... Next day I have off, your coming down here, to feel the POWER of the WRX.

Josh, your unable to post your impressive power numbers because its not fair.

Ha-Ha! Elevation's a *****, ain't it?

The only thing I could think of would be to get two safe tunes for the two elevations you'd be at most, and run a flipchip so you could switch tunes at the flip of a switch. Or move to some place where your car can ****ing breathe!

On a safe, conservative tune it's four hundred and sixty th... oh, nevermind. Ahhh, I love living at sea level.:p
