Actually no! It snows quite a lot in the Highlands of Scotland, and they have some (second-rate) ski resorts there. Basically suffering through lack of altitude, it has to be said.

It rains a lot here, and it can get quite cold, but it doesn't often snow. Shrewsbury is one of those inland places where it can often drop to -3 or -4C in winter, which I thought was cold until I started living and working in Scotland.

I spent some time on a construction site in Inverness in January one year, where the peak temperature for the week was -9C. That got even me thinking about buying a sweater! But even then, no snow.

Yeah - when I came there in late summer 1998 (London only) it rained the whole time. Barely let up. During the changing of the guard I didn't have an umbrella. I stood there for like 20 minutes getting soaked as the rain poured harder and harder, progressively. Darn Britain! :D

I look out the office window this morning to see snowflakes falling. I hate snow.

Before everyone jumps on me, I grew up on Skis, been snowboarding, snowmobiling, nearly killed in sledding accidents, and know how to snowshoe. Growing up in Southern Vermont means lots of snow. Now that I'm nearing hte 30 year mark, I've had my fill.

Driving through the Boston Commute has now added more time to my ride.

Just had to vent my sorrowful feelings at the impending snowfall.

AO

I too hate snow.

Translation please.

Man, all you folks that never get snow where you live, are more than welcome to some of ours. The town of Vail actually has to truck out snow and head off to the "snow dump." (which is further west of here where it is a bit warmer.) It's odd to see dump trucks full of snow!
I'll divert some of those trucks out your way!

Up here, it usually averages about 300 to 350 inches of snow in a winter season. I've seen it where we got 500 inches of snow one season and that also happened to be the summer where we got 6 inches of snow on the 4th of July. Cancelled all the fireworks.
If you guys want the snow, just make it out to the Rocky Mountains.

You got it! Actually I was planning on doing so Friday. I have the day off and as of the time of this post, it's snowing pretty good.

Had a most excellent experience in the parking lot at work tonight. It was completely empty, a little icy and in a rear wheel drive car with near bald tires.

Now why would Boombexus have nearly bald tires on his lexus?

Methinks it be more than just a commuter car... :D

Well, it started at about 2pm MST and currently, there is about a foot of snow on the ground here and it's still comin down.

Just in time for me to, as I just put on my snow tires yesterday. Even with the snow tires on, it took me almost an hour to drive 20 miles as the snow was coming down so hard that visibility was just about 0. It's just snowing so hard that the snowplows cant keep up.
Saw a few cars that had lost it and went off into the ditch on the side of the highway, and there are semi's parked everywhere as they all have just decided to park it for the night until conditions improve.
Don't know exactly as to how much snow we are predicted to get as this has seemed to take many by surprise. At it's current rate of accumulation, 2 feet of the powder, wouldn't be unrealistic.

I only drove in the snow once, in North Carolina (about 1/2")...I really didn't know what to do...but the best way to drescribe it was how it is in South Florida when it hasn't rained for a month. All the oil and crap rises to the top of the ashpalt and it's rather slippery. But the dancing snowfall sure is distracting. Very dreamy-trippy looking when you expect precipitation to fall straight down.

I drove up with a friend of mine to visit my uncle, and we wnet to a bar, after we left, it started to snow. now, my friend had lived in Florida or the Carribean (St. Vincent, to be exact) all his life. He had never seen snow, his family had never seen snow, and his family's family had never seen it!

So when we got home around midnight, he calls his mom and dad (they are dead asleep)..."Mom! Dad! Guess what I saw!"...it was hillarious! And it wasn't a one-minute conversation, either...for 20 minutes, they were asking questions "What did it feel like? Was it cold? Was it white like you see on TV?" They were on speakerphone, I could hear how excited they were. I could imagine his mom telling his other family members later on, "My son, he's actually seen snow!"

It just goes to show that some things just have to be experienced to be beleived.

Just to rub it in....it's 85 degrees here! No rain! And it's the one or two times of the year where it isn't humid! :sun:

OK, the snow had stopped for the morning and early afternoon hours, but it's started back up again. Forcast is calling for another 5-10 inches, and we have already seen about 8 inches and it's still dumping. More snow forcasted again for tomorrow as well, but the snow accumulations are predicted to be less.

(Montana Forecast as predicted by Pako)

No sticky snow here yet, although average temps in the morning have been just barely above zero (F). The mountains peaks are white, but the valley is still dry. Snow is expected in the higher elevations, with moderate snow fluries in the valley in the next few weeks..
