I need some help, whenever I press ctrl+alt+del it tells me that the task manager had been disabled by my administrator. I'm the only one who uses my computer and I have no idea how to change this. Something weird is going on and I dont know what. Anyone have an idea? :nervous:

restart in safe mode and change your user settings perhaps?

That way you can log on as admin.

Keep tapping F8 while your computer boots, then select boot in safe mode. It'll come up with all the users on your computer, plus Administrator. Log in there and you should be able to change account allowances etc via the user accounts option in the control panel.

Funny, this happened to me too, all the sudden the task manager isn't available... I guess I'll try that later if I can.

Hmmm, something weird just happened, I did a spyware search with spybot and the task manager popped up on the list of problems. Anyaway, I pushed fix and now its all better. What could cause this?

Nice catch 👍

That'd be a very good reason for it 'suddenly stopping'.

Obviously from what you've found, it was some form of spyware blocking the task manager, most likely just to cause you annoyance, as with all spyware.

If the restart method didn't work I was going to ask what sort of system protection you had, but no need to now!

Sounds like whatever the malware was, it set a group policy to disable the Task Manager. Even the administrator can be locked out of stuff by policies. It did this to keep you from seeing the list of processes and killing it. It's conceivable one of these things could lock you out of the registry, too. Wouldn't that be grand?

Well I kinda figured something was up due to earlier "happenings" so as I made this thread I had virus scan running which found nothing. Then it was on to spyware and I guess that found it. All is good now 👍

I haven't had a virus in a long time. Not since I went and downloaded one to see if Avast caught it. Which it did. :)

Spyware IS a doozy though.

Wouldn't that have been fun if it didn't catch it and it ruined your data?
