This thread is inspire by jimftr's Schumacher thread. So the question is the thread title. Do you think he can? He is not doing as well I these first few races. He had a good run in Australia, not so good in Malaysia, and was doing well in China until he got passed on worn tires. Didnt Red Bull take out the Triple blown diffuser? Thus taking out grip.

Yes he can win a race. A very good drive on his part and a little 'luck' and he's there. If Button had crashed out on the last lap at Australia, he'd have been the first winner of the season. That being said, I hope he never wins again, since I don't want to have to look at that finger again

We're not going to have one of these for every driver, right?

Dibs on the Charles Pic thread.

Also, what the hell is a "triple-blown diffuser"? There is not and never has been any such thing.

Damn. I wanted that one. Now I'll have to settle for the Petrov thread ;) .

I reckon Vettel will win a race. Probably not until Europe or later, when they've got their exhaust and what-not sorted out, but I'm sure they'll find a way.

I want the Karthikeyan thread.

Oh, and addressing the question, I think he'll win 1 or 2, but not anymore then that.

It seems this year, the team is not favouring Vettel as much. I don't see him winning one any time soon.

Yes, undoubtedly.

I do see this season being one akin to 2010. Many winners, but consistency being the name of the game.

Yes. There'd be something very wrong if he couldn't. I also think Webber might steal a few this year, given his pace in the Red Bull so far.

The team are working on what makes the car fastest. If Vettel can't adapt to the faster set-up, then that's his problem, not the team's.

Interesting the comments on that exhaust article. I guess Marko must really hate Webber if they're going to continue development on his car instead of Vettel's.

I think Red Bull is simply being realistic. This is the best set-up they've got. They're going to keep playing with it till they get results. If the set-up finally goes the way Vettel wants it to go, good. If it doesn't, then Vettel has a lot of work to do.

This is the season where Vettel has to show adaptability. Only if he shows an Alonso-like ability to drive around those problems will he win a race. The Red Bull does have the ability to win. The question is whether either of the drivers have the grit to bang out a win.

Yes he will. Not in the distance future ( Bahrain, Catalunya ) but maybe around Silverstone, Hockenheim :)

This bit. And I'll have a lot more respect for the man when he does.

That's what i was thinking.

But also what pace are the Mercedes ,Williams and Lotus gonna have by then aswell. He also has a chance to do somthing like what Alonso did in Malaysia if weather or pitstops play in his favor or a crash .

This is gonna be a fun year :D

Like Alonso...

I still hate his guts. His prima-donna-ish antics post-Renault. The fact that he feels the need to dominate and belittle his team-mates. Always. His roles in SpyGate and CrashGate... but...

Man, do I respect the guy's abilities.

At least Vettel's starting off better. I don't hate his guts. Or his constant fingering. :D

Of course he can. Will he? Hard to say. I'd be surprised if we get to the end of the season and he hasn't, but not that surprised.

Looking at current pace he'd have to get by Button and Hamilton, and be fighting tooth and nail with Rosberg/Schumacher/Raikonnen/Webber/Alonso the whole race. That's a lot of people to beat with a car which he's apparently not currently comfortable with.

I've come around to Alonso actually. He's matured emotionally in the last few years - much more easy-going and less critical of others. A bit like Schumacher did when he joined Ferrari, funnily enough - I reckon the relative lack of success gave them both a reality check.

Doesn't take much for Alonso to dominate and belittle his team-mate though. Massa belittles himself pretty much.

And crikey can the guy drive. Best on the grid at the moment. Has Hamilton and Vettel's outright speed, Button's cool head and overtaking ability, and really shines in close quarters with other drivers.

Spot on. Don't think I'll ever like him, but he sure knows how to drive an F1 car.

He will likely win a race or two, but he surely needs to find some more pace from the car.

It's either that the others have caught up or the RB8 is much slower, which in turn, is making this season to be one of the best ever :D

Of course he can. All it takes is making the car specifically suited for Vettel, since as Mr. Helmut Marko says HERE, Webber is not sensitive to the car's behaviour, he only needs four wheels.

Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko told Servus TV on Tuesday: "We will go on with the Mark Webber car."

As for why Webber feels more comfortable in the updated car, Marko added: "Mark is less sensitive to the [car's] behaviour. He just needs four wheels, but it's different for Vettel."

I doubt this is a compliment to Mark, although it can also be read that way. But I'm sure it works as a perfect excuse to lead car development according to litle Seb's wishes ...

EDIT - May I just add that apparently, Marko got it all wrong. Insensitive Webber, apparently, "felt" (and accordingly chose) the best solution, while Vettel didn't.

So, will Karthikeyan score a point in 2012? :dunce:

(I almost made the thread but I'll save the mods the effort of locking it!)

Yup, he will win, but less wins then Webber, Hamilton, Button and Alonso.

And I'm going to make the Jackie Steward thread.

Like many others have said, yes, he will win at least one but don't know when and where. I will be very surprised if he doesn't win any this season... Anyway, that RB8 is losing a little bit because of the loss of EBD and the rest are catching up. Easy.

Exactly my feelings. I never used to like him but he has matured over the years and he's definitely the best all-round driver on the grid.

About Vettel, of course he can win a race this year. He has a competitive car, which has been conasistently close to the pacesetters at all 3 races so far. They also have excellent backing both in technical expertise and financial support which means they will be a stronger force later in the year when they have overcome the teething problems caused by the loss of the Exhaust blown diffuser. I believe he will win a race this year (Unless he has an accident at some point which puts him out for the season). You'd have to be a brave man to bet against it, considering how consistent he is in the races and how good he can be in qualifying.
