to all the moderators out here, i would like to say: **** the teddy up ****ers!!

i am really pissed off because you allow such stupid and idiotic threads to appear on this forum but not mines (i realize that they're not a revolution but at least got more interesting question than this!)

Granted his language didn't do him honor, but he's got a point. I also tried posting a valid GT4 question that hasn't been answered here in the GT4 forum and my thread never showed up. It had to be approved by moderators for it to be valid. How come this thread is valid but a good GT4 question isn't? :grumpy:

Oh man that was funny.........

Anyway............. Interesting topic, I always wondered why there was never a way to just make an exact copy of a disk by recreating the 1's and 0's instead of reading the data first.

Something like this might be a problem :

Stolen from PS2ownz
No dual-layer game backup will ever start, reports have been made by people saying they have succes, but i think those are all lies. This is because today's hardware will not write PTP (parralel track path) but will only write OPT(Opposite Track Path) PS2 Games are all on PTP based DVD, Movies can be both that is why dual layer movies backups can start but PS2 dual layer backups dont and wont work as there is no hardware capable of PTP Dual Layer Burning.

With a PTP DVD-ROM disc, the starting point of the two layers is at the inner part of the disc. The drive reads from the beginning of each layer (inner part) progreesing towards the outer part of the disc.

With an OTP Dual Layer disc, the first layer structure is the same as the first layer on a PTP disc. The drive reads the first layer exactly the same way as PTP discs, and at the same speed. The starting point of the second layer of an OTP disc is located at the outer part of the disc.

To summ it up PTP dvd reads begining of first layer then return to beginnig of the second ayer. OPT dvd reads as PTP begining of first layer, but starts at the end of second layer reading towards the begining.

We will never have DUAL LAYER BACKUPS. (That's my guess).

Sorry mate. I just thought that it was legal to make a back-up copy of a game if you own the original version. I paid my money for my GT4, but just wanted to use a back-up version as im havin difficulties, but not to worry, i just purchased another version of the game, which i will not take to my cousins house ever again cos he wil just use it as a Frisby for his dog, like he messed up my last copy by spilling Lucozade all over it.
Legality of backup coipes varies heavily by location. However, most 'backup' copies seem to end up given to friends... I wasn't directly trying to warn you, just trying to warn people in general that piracy discussion are forbidden here. If you get a warning via private message (usually), that's when you know it's official.

wow, the f word got moderated itself.... interesting....
Yes, it did, and tantrums like that are a great way to get in trouble. If you've got a complaint, make it reasonably politely and in the appropriate forum (Questions and Comments, in case you're wondering). Foul language is forbidden.

The moderators approve messages that we think are not covered anywhere else and are worth discussion. It may take a few hours or a day. We do the best we can, but we have lives and there is not time to review each and every thread to make sure it has not already been answered. If something seems like it's already covered, the thread probably won't get approved as a new thread. If your thread doesn't show up in a day, either see if there's an existing thread on a similar topic and post in that, or look on the second page of the index. At this time threads appear chronologically by when they were originally posted, not by approval date, but we're seeing if that can be fixed. And by 'we', I mean 'Jordan'.

Yes, that was so clever and witty he'll probably be told to go stand in the corner like DeliveratorTitan and Tercel_Driver.... :dopey:

ok, i shouldn't use the f word, but when i was writing, it was the first one to come on my mind and i said to myself: hey, why don't do some stupid thing like homer simpson (right now, i'm watching season 13) - i also thought about that ''express yourself'' and ''acting out-don't suffer in silence'' thing they told us at psychology and just felt like i should -- do it (nike). it felt so....i don't know...spontaneous, it felt right to say what you wanna say. i know there are consequences but i just didn't think about them..it is strange eerie, somewhat cool feeling. so thanks moderators, for not banning me. (i wanna stop visiting this forum although because it keeps spoiling the game for me but i can't....)

and to stinky chicken.... most people who use f word aren't worth replying to so don't waste your time and change your name.

So there is no such thing as a PTP Writer? Will there ever be?

man! this game is almost impossible to copy! the store i go to to get copied games had to get the copys imported from china! ended up costing me $25 CND insted of the usual $10. It was so worth it though! Wish there was more english like it said on the box.

There will be NO discussion of game piracy on this board!

It's illegal, it's immoral, and it's theft!
It will not be tolerated. Is that clear?

I honestly think by "copy" he meant the store bought, "imported" copy. And not copy as in DVD-R DL copy....

He said 'the store where I buy copied games'. That's pretty clear, even making allowances for Canadian English. And at 'the usual $10CDN' for games, they sure as heck are not legitimate games.

Maybe game publishers/developers shouldn't charge so much for their games. I'd buy loads more games for my PS2 and PC, if they were cheaper. I buy all mine online as it is, so that saves me a fair bit, but PS2 games, even online are still silly money.

Look at the success of iTunes. Dirt cheap songs, selling like hot cakes. Apple are making a killing, and the sonner the music, film and games industry learn that, the better. Sell it cheap = sell more copies.

£35 for a new game is alot of money. And if the game turns out to be rubbish, or not to your liking, then it's a nightmare trying to get your money back. Admitily some shops are better than others.

Cheers, Jamie

My bad... I was on my way out the door (the French teacher will NOT be left hanging) - and misread his post...

Sorry...

I will make a backup copy because I live in a house that has partys constantly... things get stolen ALL the time. I cant afford to go and drop 50 bucks each time some asshole decides he likes something in our game collection.

No offense but if people keep stealing from you then stop having parties. Hell i would hunt the person down if he stole my GT4. Anyways if you do continue keep an eye out and dont invite untrust worth people. Thats like Bush inviting the Bin Ladens over for tea in America and then they bomb him. OOPS wait that already happened.:ouch:

But add the price up, song by song, and it's almost exactly the same price as a CD of the album, and there's no actual CD.

How do you break a game down into each little unit like that? Or a movie? Would you like to pay 1 pound for each license test, and each individual race series? How about 1 pound for each 10 minutes of your favorite movie?

Developing games takes an insane amount of time and money. How much do you think it has cost PD to have a small army of people working on GT4 full time for the last 3 years?

GT4 is one of those games who really deserve to be bought. i'm going to buy ps2 just because of it. but sadly, most games are just some crap that is interesting for a weekend

Here in Korea they got these stores where you can buy copied games and DVDs. They are usually $5 a piece. A couple of my friends buy stuff there because it's cheap. I tried talking sense into them that games and DVDs are expensive exactly because of the business they are supporting. And most DVDs copies are crap... The Korean government has been cracking down on the illegal copy market (which includes everything from CDs, DVDs, Games to name brand clothing and even food!), so nowadays in Seoul it is harder to find such illegal places (you gotta know where to look for them and the salespeople there are always aprehensive, looking around for cops when they sell you something). But if you go to smaller towns you can find the copy stores... The only time I ever bought anything on the store it was a copy of the Japanese GT Prologue, because it wasn't released either in Korea or the US (I am an American with a US PS2, my wife has a Korean PS2). A friedn of mine went on a trip to Beijing and he brought back 200 DVD movies and about 50 Ps2 games, all copied. He paid $225 for all that... that is a huge problem in China, and that's why we gotta pay $50 when GT4 comes out... but people don't understand that or don't care, so we gotta suffer. Oh well... 👎

Sadly, he's been banned. But, since he's been talking out of his arse since he got here and obviously has NO clue about any aspect of GT4, I wouldn't let it bother you.

He didn't - trust me !...
Oops ... I didn't notice that, thanks guys! 👍

I wonder why people come here and say things like that. That's just plain stupid!

You'd be surprised at how cheap you can get the original version of the game for actually. I got mines for around 15 pounds, which is about the equivalent of $30, but was a low price cos it was the Japanese version. You can preorder the PAL release for 25 pounds, again around $51. I usually take great care of my games, but always like to make back-up copies incase i lose a game/scratch a game which is quite common for me. I usually take good care of my games, but tis other people in my family who always mess around with my collection, which is why it helps to have legal back-ups, whih i believe we have the right to do in the United Kingdom.
