I'm guessing 13,597+Some number accounting for statistical uncertainty... That's the number of people who "like" the competition on facebook so I feel safe assuming at least that many people are participating..

well it would be some what easy to get a better estimate.. put up a REALLY slow time like 5 minutes to complete tsukuba and see what your rank is.. unfortunately we all put our best times up so we cant try that anymore.

My wife created a psn and registered. before she is going to run, I asked her if I could do this. Total time on Tsukuba, 7.10.456. Ranked 3288 in the midwest, 17969 in america.

Only 17,969? Thats surprisingly low for a competition that was advertised on the cover of every GT5 game sold in the US. I think its because you actually have to register for the tournament online to participate.

Yeah, there's also a whole lot of other factors that eliminate big chunks of people. No one in the military (or most people with kids) can move to England for 7 months to claim the prize.
Also if you read the rules they have a "no fatties" clause, a "no heart problems" clause, and a "no pro" clause.

I forget how they word it but it says something to the effect of "you must be able to fit in a racing seat". I prefer "no fatties"

We have to take into account all the drivers that will never enter because they got wreckless driving tickets or 502z, let alone those wet wreckless ones that didum both in one shot. 30 years of dodging bullets and taking all those driving schools to get my infractions takin off the ol driving record really paid off now

Amazingly my driving record is flawless, although I've been pulled over 12-15 (more?) times since I got my license. And that includes trips from Massachusetts to Boulder (2150 miles via i-70 in 28h45m door-to-door including all stops).

Like I said in another post, I don't have my own vehicle so I do very little driving unless I'm at my parents house, which means I have a perfectly clean record - so far. Luckily GT fills the void for the time-being.

27,797th in the U.S. for a lap time of 4:16.839 on Tsukuba as of today.

Refeshed a few mins later now 27,803rd, I will check once a day to see how much higher it goes, it looks like people are signing up by the minute.

Kind of. I think it was when I had an idiot tailing me for no reason down the main drag in my home town. Pissed me off enough that when he finally got a chance to go around me I floored it. Just so happens a sheriff was going the other way and managed to get turned around fast enough I didn't have time to, uh, leave.
