So I popped in the GT4 last night...

If you think about it GT5 has ALOT more content then GT4. GT 5 has online that delivers a continuously developing and improving group to race with and continuously changing races and events. On top of all that it has Single Player.

First off content is often recognized as being the local part.

Online play is less content and more interaction especially in GT5's case where there isn't so much as unique race types like cops and robbers or something that isn't the exact same as the aspec world.

When people say GT5 has less content, they are referring to Aspec.

As for GT5's online, when viewed relativistically (instead of as in a time warp putting it on equal footing with GT4) compared to the industry norm, GT5 is offering far less than the average.

While GT5 has infinitely more online function than GT4 did, you will note that a 1024x800 monitor today offers more resolution than your average monitor of 20 years ago, but that does not mean it is in any way as impressive or relatively good as the 800x600 from back in the day.

I also don't see what the issue is with people feeling the events are too easy. What exactly is stopping you from just running lower HP cars, lower grade tires or even lowering the hP of whatever car your in? The challenge is whatever you make it, if you find it too easy you're just incapable of using the game to it's fullest and the fault is not in the game but user error....

User Error!

Because it's not as easy as that... the Aspec races do not always feature the same cars so there is no "proper" competition to tune your car too. Depending on what the AI throws at you the same tune would be overpowered for one group of cars and unwinnable against another in the same race.

Besides, the point of making a game is to design the puzzles and our role is to solve them. Not the other way around.

Milton bradly doesn't give you a board and a marker and some peices and say "you decide the challenge!", Sodoku puzzles don't come with empty squares and say "you figure out which numbers to start with!". The game maker is supposed to, you know, make the game... that includes setting up reasonable challenges for you to accomplish. That's the foundation of a game... if they want to go further and leave options for you to expand on that, then great! But they need to get the foundation right before worrying about the user changing things more.

That's not how the game design/consumer pruchase world works. When I have to make the game, then something is wrong.

The assumption otherwise is user error ;)

To me it seem games nowadays think that online allow them to leave out alot of content from single player

Just think about before there were any multiplayer and the longevity and content in the game

I was playing GT4 until just before Xmas when I finally got (another) PS3 and a copy of GT5. Despite having more races and the one track I love- Apricot Hill- GT4's physics and FFB was its biggest flaws. Not so much if you're playing the game with DS3 but with a wheel like G25, the flaws became unbearable.

With GT5 I don't miss the old games at all but GT5 is still not quite perfect.

I have no probes checking out the race and list of cars to expect (right before each event) and running a car that is allowed with sports or comfort tires and it's a blast.

PD gave us the tool to play, HOW we do so is up to us. Just like most toys, if you buy a water pistol you will shoot water with it but to keep it entertaining you need to come up with a way to use it's abilities in a fun way. Or just say it's broken when you get board of shooting water at the same patch of grass... These examples are really irrelevant. It's as easy as lowering your tire choice to create challenge in this game, not hard at all, unless your incapable of turning off all the assist and driving on something other than racing tires...

They also can't predict the skill libel of all but want the game to speak to most

GT4 - Better career and A-Spec. Bigger game.

GT5 - Better physics and graphics. Smaller game.

So I'm expecting them two to be merged together for GT6. Please, PD. Deliver this.

GT2 - Better career and A-Spec. Bigger game, more cars.

GT3 - Better physics, cars, and graphics. Smaller game.

Do YOU see a trend here?

Sorry about the broken post, I'm posting from my phone.

Have you played any Arcade Mode?

Yep.

But really? Was GT3 smaller than GT2? I can't remember that, it was really long time ago. So that should mean GT6 will be BIG! 👍

Will that also mean GT7 will be smaller than GT6? If so, that's fair enough, PD.

Physics, content, physics, content. GT5 is all about physics, right?

GT - December 1997
GT2 - December 1999
GT3 - April 2001
GT4 - December 2004
GT5 - November 2010
GT6 - 2019?

So, what's my point with this? GT3 didn't have as much content compared with GT2, but they made the game in 1.5 years.

PD, I think it's time to hire some people:)

Making a pattern between the GT games seems silly, since PD always are aiming for the best (you'd at least hope so). Also, since the next GT is on a different console, it may be the same as GT5, with less content but much improved physics. Just a thought which is opposite to what a lot of people have been suggesting, and let's just hope GT6 is what GT5 should be + next gen graphics & physics

Well, I think the reason behind long development time of GT5 is probably because of two things:

1. PS3 is difficult to code for due to the complexity of CELL processor.

2. PS3 is a next generation console, so it might took PD longer to create better graphics and HD, especially the premium cars.

But I could be wrong though.

I think GT6 will take 2 years. I've heard that PD have developed GT5 from SCRATCH. GT6 won't. Its development will continue from GT5.

GT5 already got next gen graphics and physics.

What GT6 should have is a REALLY big A-Spec and intelligent, fast AI.

Yeah, but since GT6 will be on the PS4, next gen console, that's next gen graphics & physics. And everything GT5 should have been is exactly what you said :)

GT6 will be "quicker" than GT5, because what they spent the most time on (modeling cars, physics, and tracks) will already be done to some extent. The 200 premium cars that they've modeled so far are future proof and the tracks likely are as well (with a bit of polish, of course). The physics model should carry over well to the next GT also.

However, it's going to be at least 5 years, and in that time who knows where GT5 will be with their constant work that is still going into it.

I actually thought about buying a new PS2 this weekend (I gave my old one to my Nephew) just to play GT3 and GT4 again, sad ain't it?

I ordered a second hand one off Amazon (We had about 4 PS2's but they all broke) and have been playing GT4 and Riding Spirits just to get away from grinding the same races over and over on GT5.

I've even got my old CRT TV out of the loft as the picture is better than a flat panel when using a PS2 and the wife is going mad at me for cluttering the house LOL.

No it won't. It will be on PS3.

I doubt GT6 will have fast AI. GT has been around for 14years? 5 games and none of them had fast AI.

Fast depends on the driver though, when i was a kid playing GT1, the ai was more than fast enough, but as you improve your skill and knowledge of racing things change. F1 2010 on legendary, driving a slow car with the simulation settings on, and aids turned off... there you had some damn fast AI (compared to GT5 atleast), and on Rfactor i had AI that were so fast i needed to spend a long time practicing to match their pace.. but most people don't want to spend that much time practicing, and just as you see all the moaning about the AI speed being too slow now, if they were genuinely fast, all of the casual/less skilled players would be crying on the forums about it, like they do with the trading limitation/ban.

What GT5 needs is a difficulty slider, much like in many other games, where you can set the speed at which the AI will drive.

I have played all five of the main Gran Turismo console games and have owned the latter three at some period, one of which was Gran Turismo 4. The game was great, but it felt too much like a sequel and not as a new game. It wasn't disappointing, but it doesn't give me the nostalgia view like Gran Turismo 3 did.

1. This is no more true. It was way back in 2005-2006 when Sony didn't release many libraries for developpers and not so much documentation about the multiple SPUs.
2. The PS2 was "next-gen" too.

Yeah I will have to agree. It should have the AI difficulty slider, not permanent fast AI, so yeah.

AI in GT5 is far too easy for me.

Cool story, now come race online with GTP user's and see if it's still too easy...
I don't get how people buy GT to just race the computer, in this day and age of the internet where it is SO EASY to meet people with similar interests and interact with them ( This site being a perfect example ) .

Sure you need good A.I if your racing random retards online, but HELLLLLO instead of using a social interaction site like this to complain about the computer, how about using the social interaction features of a website such as this to meet people from the same country/continent and get some clean race's going, stuff racing the computer who doesn't make spontaneous decisions day'n'day'out how boring?

Offline = The past.
Online = The future.

Don't get left behind.

So you fully support games with 3 hours solo like COD ?
GREAT, just great...
