So the AI sucks as usual. Not buying till it's competent.

The early testers like Jimmy Broadbent and some others are passing cars left and right. Jimmy said he's a little bit disappointed in the AI.

So what's the point then? A little bit better graphics and a little bit improved physics?
I get your criticism

Let's face it: had you truly been concerned about the lack of challenge in a video game, you'd certainly have the balls to enter the online mode.
Like so many times this point has been brought up - this excuse falls apart when most major racing games offer adjustable difficulty that more often then not actually offers a decent level of challenge. Polyphony have not done that, and instead have gone for half measures and hoodwinked people into believing that Sophy will be the knight in shining armour when the reality is a lot less rosy.

Also, a game who's entire hype lead up has been wrapped around the single player, a single player that they worked on after cynically throwing the baby out with the bath water (probably because of the AI they keep kicking the can down the road of) should probably at least have a difficulty level that is not moving pylons to avoid. Saying 'go play online' is an absolute cop out.

Well said.

It's primarily a single player game. How many more years do they need to make the AI better? Even independent developers like Reiza can build decent AI.

Look, it's simple really. It's like complaining about the lack of worthy chess opponents in your village and refusing to go online because xyz. You don't get to use that rationalization when the solution is a few clicks away. And what's so exciting about the artificial AI boost in other games that makes it competitive? All you learn from that is bad form.

What is the sales pitch for GT7? Car collection, car customization, and photo mode? If yes, then Mark’s question is valid. It’s the same old lady with new makeup. Nothing wrong with that for those that like the GT philosophy. I liked it up to GT4 but then got tired of it.

Your solution of online play would stand up stronger if all the cars and tracks are available immediately. Some people may not want to go through mindless grinding to be able to play online.

I guess the OP won't be buying GT7 as I don't see them improving the AI. I have no expectations for Sophy being added to the game via update. After seeing the State of Play I knew that wasn't going to be improved

Yeah, if they ever get sophy in the game the price will be down already. If you want good AI don't buy the game and just wait for a year or two.

No, it isn't. Gran Turismo 7 is a product for people to buy. That product is being marketed as featuring a vast array of single player content. As a customer it is not crazy to expect that the content they are advertising is of high quality and satisfying.

Look how far you have to get down the page before they talk about multiplayer.

In your analogy it'd be more like buying a chess set which talked up exciting matches again AI opponents and telling people not to complain when it wasn't up to much because they should be playing chess against real people. No, if a product advertises something then it should deliver, irrespective of whether there are better options also available.

Online racing real people > any AI, ever.
Exactly… Kaz even mentioned for serious racing online is where it’s at. I do understand what people are saying about the AI… I was actually looking forward to a better AI myself. I also enjoy the single player experience also even though it more than just racing other cars. My problem is how quick people are to judge PD in being stuck in their old ways when in fact they are doing the same thing. Yes the AI sucks! PD gives us a good online service allowing us to race seriously and people don’t want to use it because of their person reason… ok no problem I understand however I do find it strange.

I don't understand the negativity about this post... This is a $70 dollar AAA game, I think it's reasonable for someone to expect to have a competitive AI to race against. Even more when this title is Single Player focused.

I'd rather have fun races against the AI than grinding through single-player catchup races to get enough cars to race online.

I'd love a good AI, but I think it's pretty clear PD does not care. It's just not something they are interested in and since they sell millions of copies I guess the mainstream audience doesn't care either... All you can do is not to buy the game unfortunately.

@Mark folsom Thanks for quickly letting us know you are not buying the game, this could have been catastrophic!
To keep balance in the GT universe I bought the digital version of ps5 standard as well as keeping my hard copy preorder of the Anniversary Edition to make up for your rash decision to pull out of buying the game just before launch.

The solution at this point, to most of the incessant bitching and moaning about the game, is to not buy it, and move on with your life. Wisely, Mr Folsom has declined to spend his money on something he doesn't like, I don't agree with his views on the conflict in Ukraine, buuuut.... big respect to him for making his point with his wallet. That's the kind of thing Sony will notice, and I support that.

Creating a thread on GTP to broadcast that sentiment however, is, well... less interesting, and unlikely to make a difference.

Just my two cents.

Yep... as opposed to flooding the latest news and discussion thread with incessant arguing and rambling essays about the same topic.

When most major reviews, including the one on this very site is pointing out the shambolic AI, and how Polyphony have done nothing to change it, seems like the boot needs to be placed further down on Polyphony to change it, no?

Especially when smaller studios, with infinitely less resources then they do as a Sony first party studio, has made offline AI that is infinitely better then the attempts GT has done with since 5, and probably earlier.

I'm watching Jimmy Broadbent's stream right now, he's up to the Race Missions and has said on multiple occasions that the AI ups it's game later on, you can visually see that it's better at the point of the game he's up to, and this is a guy who despite being the official commentator wasn't a fan of GT Sport.

puts troll back on ignore

He would be a far better driver than most of us I guess, if he’s saying the AI gets better I’m all good with that.
