Seems silly, they could've let the cars go over and be totally destroyed, let's face it any car going over there would be, so manufacturers wouldn't have to be concerned over which car would be damaged most.

Well in NFS : U although theres no damage, the crashes can still be fairly spectacular. Although I think its mainly due to good sound effects

No it wouldn't of shown the car hitting the bottom, KY said he would show show the car go over the edge and the camera would cut and then race over.
