So we might not get a patch.

Who would trust the next sim from SMS for the PS3? EA did not "add" the freezing feature!

I would. That's a result of EA's QA department not testing properly, or not reporting issues properly, or demanding things be changed last minute etc...

boxox: Wait til you get a load of them posting shots from the 360 only Ferrari DLC for Shift 1 to advertise the PC version of Shift 2 on their store

I know, I had shift 1, and that really frosted me, from time to time when playing Shift 1, the Ferrari DLC marker would actually appear in the menus due to a glitch, I remember other people seeing the same on their PS3s.

Doesn't SMS test?

This is one of the resources that's meant to come with having a large publisher (similarly, they have noone on staff flogging the game to buy shelf space at chain stores) and SMS QA is literally one person coordinating with EA's test group.

Your quite right...

The first Shift was also very badly coded for the PS3 (terrible frame rate and the game was left unfinished with quite a few bugs) and this one well...
I dont trust them on the PS3 one bit.... If I get a Xbox or a PC I might buy their next game but until then no more SMS games for me...

Honestly, someone could have hacked into their twitter feed and posted that and I'd be surprised if EA even noticed...
Moreover, everyone's commenting a twit they haven't seen.

VirtualR doesn't provide a link to this twit in their article. Have you tried to find it ? I have and was'nt able to find anything.

I saw it on the front page of the main nfs site in reply to another tweet when I googled the original text quote.

Though as I said earlier I must have missed it when people decided that the NFS twitter feed was the world's most accurate news source :)

So, if SMS is relying on EA for "proper and complete" testing how do they (SMS) know they have a reliable engine (...We own all of the tech. Starting point would be from our latest engine...)?

The 'confirmation' on twitter (though I agree it isn't very reliable) that no further patch is planned along with this post that SMS "won't be making Shift 3 or working with EA in the foreseeable future" (can't say I blame them) doesn't spell a good future for Shift 2 or for the Shift franchise in general. :(

It's sad when such a great game and concept (a realistic racing sim/game that is approachable, fun and allows casual play), developed by an enthusiastic developer with incredible attention to detail, is being let down by the publisher and doesn't receive the post-release support it deserves! 👎

Do I regret buying Shift 2?
No, when the game works good it is brilliant and despite the freezing issue (that occurs to me only in Nordschleife and only with GT1 cars, which is a huge letdown!) it is still my favorite racing game! 👍

Does Shift 2 live to it's true potential?
Unfortunately not! But it was so close! One of the tracks of the game (which is also one of the greatest tracks) is unavailable for the fastest cars! Thankfully the rest of the tracks (along with the cars) are great and the fact that they are not available in other games makes (in my opinion) Shift 2 an essential game for any racing sim/game fan!

Will there be a Shift 3?
Maybe, but it won't be made by SMS! And after looking at the direction that EA is following with "NFS - The Run" (return of the cheesy-story-line, removal of cockpit view, removal of realistic handling, QTEs!!?? - seriously!) I am not confident for the future of the NFS franchise. It seems that after the resurrection of NFS with the Shift and Shift 2, NFS is going to die for a second time! :(

Hope we will be proved wrong and EA will let SMS resolve the freezing issue on PS3!
I will also be looking forward for more information on WMD to be released! A racing sim/game build on the same (but further developed) engine of Shift 2 without compromises and good post-release support has huge potential! :D

Yeah, I dunno. Griff was talking about the "new patch" being v1.03 on consoles and as we saw with Steam/Origin it's not as though what EA says it wants/will deliver in a patch is necessarily going to be what ends up in there. So maybe it's done and EA are just faffing around with it, who knows. I don't know if it's been brought up here yet but the other thing 1.02 did on PC was deliver all of the "DLC3" convertible models into the game, which were never in the PC data to begin with. So it seems like at least something is/was planned to happen with that until very recently at least (eg between requested delivery and launch and that tweet).

More hassling of EA seems pretty righteous right now though :)

There's testing the functionality of the engine (for devs) and then there's compatibility and data testing (which is abstracted from the code). The latter part is what they thought EA was doing, from what I can gather. But from modding I have to say I would agree the engine is very nice, quite robust and up to some serious business, it's just a matter of making sure it's not being fed garbage :)

I may sound like I am completely down on this game but nothing could be further from the truth. To me, there is nothing else on the consoles that provides the same intense racing experience. I myself don't have many issues except for the freezing as you stated above. I want a "racing" game, nothing more nothing less, and S2U is so close to "great" that I can taste it! The vast majority of S2U's limitations or failures could be chalked up to hardware limits or the developer's failure to perfect. The freezing is one problem though that cannot be overlooked by EA and SMS and passed as acceptable - BOTH have failed in this regard and are most likely passing-the-buck onto each other. Neither are willing to man-up and fix it - it's easier (and less expensive) to act like they know nothing of the problem and move on.

I agree with this. To be honest, I cant see EA passing up on paid DLC.

Unless the free PC DLC was EA washing their hands with SMS. Dunno. Its so up in the air right now.

I have mixed feelings about the Community funded sim though. Again it seems SMS is going to cater to the PC crowd, which is fine, but as a console gamer (only for about a year now) I am a little worried.

Shift2 IMO is the best racer on a console right now...period. Dirt3, Grid, F1, GT5, they are all good, but I can play S2 for hours on end. The other ones in short burst. If the fixes and tweaks were in...and a decent MP option list (i.e. full damage, saved replays, quick tuning, etc) I couldnt see another game touching it for a looong time.

Like everyone said, its great...but could (might be?) have been godly.

More pressure on EA is what we need. The worst case scenerio...we just keep enjoying S2 in its current state. The best case? They give us our patch, more people will come back to play, and more new people pick it up. Also it will give companies a benchmark.

Those are my thoughts at least.

That's our only option! 👍
  • If you haven't reported the freezing issue, report it!
  • If you have, report it again, telling them that the latest patches didn't resolve it!
  • If they give you the standard EA support response (delete game data, try again, delete save data, try again) tell them you did it and pressure them to give you a better answer!
  • Be specific, don't just say "the game freezes", give them an exact procedure to reproduce the freeze.

It's a slim chance we will get another patch but if we pressure them we just might!
Let's push the "Shift 2 freeze issue" at the top of EA's issue reporting system! :D

FF drop out and magnetic effect is the biggies for me.

Xbox user though.

Yes the freeze would crack me up more I must admit.
That, to me is a game breaker.

Yeah, I agree it's probably our last and only option!:nervous:

I hate twitter (to quote Sean P: "twitter doesnt sound to me like that s*** is something that a man should do") but this NFS twit aggrevates me so much that I am close to making an account just to verbally bomb those :censored:hats into next week!

*tries to remain cool*

So now I cant log into my account neither when I want to write something in the EA forum. To let off a bit of steam I posted the same text on all EA and Shift 2 facebook pages:

"How the hell can EA stop the support and patch development for Shift 2? The game is broken as is on the PS3 with the constant reproducable freezes!!! I cant even complete it because it freezes everytime I take a GT1 or any other 1800PI + car on Mt. Panorama, the Nordschleife or Spa! And its NOT my savedata that is the problem, those freezes are a well known issue!

So Shift2 is going to be the last ever EA product I will have bought, I am seriously baffled how customer service can be so horribly bad. Shame on you, EA!"

Now I feel a bit better! :D

Hmmm, and this happens just after i was starting to somewhat enjot it. Well, enjoy it inbetween freezes and constant steering issues that is.

If they are not going to release a new patch for S2U, then im just going to uninstall it, and trade it in the next time i buy a game.

I will stick with GT5, and put my valuable gaming time into that. Thats $80 wasted (for the game and 2 dlc's)

Its funny, but with some TLC this game could of been epic in the racing genre.

So no patch in sight huh? Much less, a Shift 3...what a shame. I never played the 1st one(except its demo)but I bought Shift 2 with high expectations. When it works, boy is it a fun game but that freezing is just so...

I have it on the PS3 and after hearing that this version is the worst coded, I feel bad for a game that could become so much more.

Just a note chaps that I haven't said there won't be a Shift 3. I really don't know what EA are planning with it (or not).

Well, I for one would hope there will be a Shift 3. It's been a long time since I've had a racing game that made me sweat and offered so much fun. If you could keep that aspect of the game alive, that would be great. Thanks!

I just hope this isnt a case of SMS wanting paid to fix the game and EA not wanting to pay to fix the game. If thats the case thats just 🤬 up. I hope im wrong but begining to think im not. Gotta be a money thing though.

That's a shame PS3 version is having all of these issues. On my PC version only issue I've run into is since installing the DLC I cant get unto autolog. Filled a ticket with EA. Hopefully they can fix

edit- figured it out, bioware old NWN servers got hacked; my EA shift account got reset. just had to reset the password linked to that account

Ian, its well understood that there might be a Shift 3. Regarding the fact that you guys wont be part of its development and with the horrible policy about fixing gamebreaking issues EA has shown with Shift 2, I honestly couldnt care less, though.

Mm interesting, i do hope there will be a Shift 3 and you guy's are involved, and Hopefully EA will give you time to make a great game, and not rush it out.

One thing though make sure you get the License for the Macau circuit 👍

Pity about the patch though.

We won't be involved. We'll not be working with EA for the foreseeable future.
