So we might not get a patch.

Same, so I've just wrote to EA Support for a new key. From what I've heard making a new profile helps with autolog (like a brand new game).

I realize there are more variables than you can throw a stick at on the PC platform but maybe the PS3 isn't alone on this freeze/crash problem - just saying.

Guys as You know I've been one of the most critical posters in this sub-forum.
I've been complaining about the freezing bug since the very beginning-after detected.
But, We bought the game from E.A. it is from them We should demand to fix a ,as it stands, not working properly product.
I'm sure it is not in Ian's job description to be here answering our questions.
I respect the fact that he did.
I understand everyones frustration, believe me, but I can't see how it serves our interests to antagonize the man and as a result, probably, get him not to bother in coming here anymore and not answering any more doubts.
So please let's be calm and respectful and try to keep Ian come here and give us some feedback of future fixes to the game.

Thanks.

I agree. 👍 Its nice to see that after our complaints of getting no Dev interaction we are getting some now, and by his own free will, not a PR direction.

It sucks, because it seems we know we need a patch, SMS knows we need a patch, but EA is acting like all is ok.

Ian, where is the "...vastly larger audience."? I am serious as I would don't know of another active forum for S2U (console) and I may like to participate.

Also, maybe you cannot speak for SMS but do you/SMS feel responsible and/or obligated to fix some of these problems(to keep a focus lets just say the freezing issue)? Or, do you say too-sad-too-bad and move on because EA (if so) is not wanting to address the problem.
Example, I work in the IT field and a customer of mine was having an issue with a software installation I did for them. But, it was determined that the problem was related to a bug in the software, not my installation and configuration. To appease the customer, I offered to reinstall "at no charge" following an installation procedure that works around the bug. I call that customer service and good business. My $.02

But you're yet again completely moving over the point that EA calls the shots on what goes in to the patch.

You had the power to provide a solution to a customer so it's not that comparable to a dev that has the Publisher calling the shots on the patches. These are very complex business relationships (which is why I love being Indie, so much easier) and game development can involve numerous companies, it's not you and the end-user as in your instance. NDA's are a nature of that, you cannot expect someone to risk their job just because some (not naming anyone, just being generic) want more information than they are getting. I think Ian is already going the extra mile by posting here and answering questions (the sensible ones at least).

Frustration is appreciable, it's expected in this industry, but to turn that in to heated animosity against someone who is trying to help you, is a bit OTT. Many like to think devs don't care, but the harsh reality is the extreme opposite is true, problems happen, you cannot repeat millions of users testing a product pre-release, it's almost inevitable to find issues that you will not find in QA. You won't find many industries that have more drive over a product.

Actually popped in to the forum to see what people thought of the Legends DLC, may be enough to tempt me. I'll have a gander around.

Exactly that! 👍
Even if you are justifiably frustrated for the freezing issue (which only occurs with some very fast cars on very few tracks - it happened to me only on Nordschleife and only on GT1 cars) this in not a reason to become rude and aggressive.

In my opinion we should appreciate the fact that a developer which gave us an excellent game that we all enjoy (despite a few bugs) is posting on this forum and answering our questions. More developers should be like that, we shouldn't convince them otherwise!

If you have a PS3 console with a retail copy of Shift 2 there is an easy way to reproduce the freezing issue. Take a Maserati MC12 GT1 on the Nordschleife. You can try either a time trial or a live-tuning mode. Drive 3-4 laps (because sometimes the bug doesn't occur but occurs very often so it should definitely happen in 3-4 laps). The freezing occurs at the uphill section after the dip between Fuchsröhre and Adenauer Forst.

You can see the section of the track where the freeze occurs between 1:39 to 1:44 in the following video:

To increase the chances for the freeze to occur you must drive as fast as you can at this section (when you drive very slow the freeze doesn't happen).

Again, thanks for an excellent racing simulation game! :D:tup:

How hard is it to tell the costumers why doesnt the game work properly and what is or isnt going to be done about it... its a very known issue from almost the start and I was the fool to buy the game knowing that it froze the console... its been reported in the official forums from the start and this is so ridiculous that I wont even trade the game - its going straight to the trash bin and no more EA or SMS games for me... at least for a while until EA gets their act together and SMS gets someone to code the PS3 properly...

I'm closing this temporarily. Some people need to cool their heels.

Those of you who feel like the proper response when you don't get your way is a cheap smear-job needs a refresh on their manners. This ain't that kind of forum.

Kudos to the rest of your who understand that.

EDIT: This thread has been reopened. Please observe the rules and show common courtesy to your fellow forum users. I understand that some of you are frustrated with the game, but that does not give you the right to douche up the threads with rudeness, name calling, personal attacks, etc.

Be nice. Or at least civil.

A dev shows up to shed some light on the situation & to recieve direct feedback from the community, and you're being rude to him!?

Bad manners dude, doesn't matter how frustrated you are, that's not ok!

Keep up the good work Ian, and I hope we'll get rid of the freezing issues :)

edit: forgot to quote...

You know what, you're right. I prefer to think of my style as blunt/direct but to be fair in this case I guess rude fits the bill also. For that I apologize. In the best interests of the community I will excuse myself from this discussion.

I hope Ian will continue to contribute and I hope we can get the fixes we need to turn S2U into the great game it has the potential to be.

I know it wasn't a perfect analogy. Just thought that SMS may feel obligated to fix as it is their code. It goes without saying that EA has a responsibility.
I honestly didn't think I was being rude as that was not the intention.

I dont think EA will pay any more fixes and I also dont think SMS will ever do a game for EA again... so if we get another patch we are very lucky...

I can see why new features that weren't in the specification would be subject to approval or commissioning by EA, but it seems strange to me that EA should forbid SMS to include bug fixing of their own accord, when such fixes would simply bring the game up to spec (i.e. to working, non crashing order). Is this actually how the contract with EA works?

In my days of commissioned software development it has worked the other way around - that is, if there were bugs they'd have to be fixed to fulfill the contract.

Thats exactly why I think SMS wont do any more games for EA... of course that if EA doesnt demand a fix for a specific bug they dont have to do it but if they fix a specific bug even if not requested, EA would be happy with it and so would the costumers.... it works like that in every business and one doesnt have to be very smart to figure that out... now if SMS rather spend more time with unrequested new features to please PC gamers that is their call but please dont think we are stupid just because not all of us can speak or write english all that well.

^^^^I don't know if we'll get another patch, but if we do its not going to fix 45 pages worth of bugs.

Theres probably 42 pages of you suck comments though......

EA confirmed on Twitter that the release of the DLC pack and the second patch ends the post-release development process of Shift 2 Unleashed as no further patches for any platform are planned.

That's that then. We're stuck with what we've got. :grumpy:

Damn!!!:grumpy:
Shouldn't let go the needed support to a product not working properly in the PS3!👎

Edit:

Just for the record, I just got one more freeze @ Ambush Canyon with the Carrera RSR TNFS(1140 PI).
And two nights ago same happened to me in online mode in class D cars!, I even commented with Tribolik via PSN that probably I would do better just to give up on it and trade it for DIRT 3.

Ive Been playing GT5 :embarrassed: Arcade mode - pro AI - Mercedes CLK LM - Le Mans - 30 laps - with full damage - real something - no aids (no ABS also) - stock car with racing hard - tire and fuel sim - quite a challenge and having a blast :embarrassed: (the AI are only C class, LMP and LMPGTP - beatifull grid but you have to put 3rd stage turbo to get it like that and take it off just before the race)
But today I saw the GT1 race in Navarra so I felt like doing some laps on the Ring in a GT1 car but to prevent the game from crashing I took the BMW M3 ALMS instead (1530 PP if not mistaken)- drove for 2 minutes (really dificult to clip the apex in this game after playing GT5 I really felt the lag) and after 2 minutes the game froze... 2 minutes... well one thing is for sure I really enjoyed the engine sound while it lasted :indiff:
Hope theres a final patch to play it some more, if not... Im done with the game...:guilty: the freezing is getting old and really annoying...

Maybe its time we all put our heads together and resources to explore what legal options are available regarding EA's delivery of half-baked goods, its obvious that there are also other people unhappy with NFS S2U who participate on this forum, as well as GTPlanet, RaceDept., ForzaCentral, ISR to name a few.

To start off with, many of the cars they advertised as being in the game were only available via paid DLC.

Other things like the dropping of support for Fanatec wheels 15 days prior release date after they had stated on their official EA Forum's/Supported Wheels that they were supported and Rod Chong of EA who is also a contributor to the SpeedHunters site also made the statement on his blog. I actually took screen shots and saved them.

That smacks of deceptive advertising, as far as the Fanatec wheels go no explanation was ever given although multiple inquiries/complaints were made to EA via their official forum.

Last night when I played NFS S2U on my PS3 Slim, knock on wood, I had no freezes, but I encountered multiple instances of "magnetic attraction" caused by slightly brushing against other cars, had to restart the game because of repeat sideways starts, not to mention the FFB on the wheel going crazy after races finish or are quit...and multiple "controller disconnect" messages.

I play in elite mode with no assists, ABS on or off depending on the car, Fanatec GT3RS V.2 Wheel (up-to-date firmware) and Carrera pedals, AI on Medium or Hard depending on what I am doing in the game, NFS S2U V.1.02, Legends, SH, and All Cars Unlock DLCs installed, PS3 Slim 120GB.

Question on NoGrip regarding community funded SMS project:

"...I don't see how you ship in 18 months if EA owns the codebase you plan to start with... but of course I have no idea how much SM owns or if EA would be involved also - kicking in rights to the Shift codebase. Starting from scratch would take a lot of effort."

IanBell:

"We own all of the tech. Starting point would be from our latest engine which effectively means zero risk for investors in terms of us being able to deliver. We'd ship on PC, 360, PS3, WiiHD, Box retail, Steam, App store on Mac."

Who would trust the next sim from SMS for the PS3? EA did not "add" the freezing feature!

Honestly, someone could have hacked into their twitter feed and posted that and I'd be surprised if EA even noticed...

There surely has to be more to come with the convertibles etc hiding in there. Only thing I could think of to make it true is that SMS have terminated their dealings with EA and will not be producing anything further for them, so they can get on with the WMD-Portal projects.

Maybe Ian Bell can confirm, please?

Wait til you get a load of them posting shots from the 360 only Ferrari DLC for Shift 1 to advertise the PC version of Shift 2 on their store :)
