Guys, (I did a serach but only found posts that were 3-4 years old)

my PS3 YLOD:ed. My Bentley Speed six amongst aother nice cars (R92CP, FTO and so on) are gone. My 95% game progress lost.

I can NOT redo it all. Is there a way to get a save into my new PS3?

YLOD + No save file = :(

You might somehow be able to recover it through your PSN but I don't really know.

AFAIK, not even keeping game saves will help you if your PS3 dies. Unless you've done a full backup of your entire system, which includes the accounts the game saves are for.

GAHHHH. I hate Sony for making it impossible to retrieve data from the HDD!!!

Thanks for selling my a faulty product that made me lose 100hours of my life (for that game only...)

Not sure whether it would work, but I'd try to just stick it into the new system. That could, of course, go horribly wrong.

Have you tried to fix your PS3? Mine had the YLOD just a few weeks ago and I fixed it... it works better now than it has in years.

Just need a heat gun and some fresh, good quality thermal paste.

Mine still had warranty. Wouldn't wanna mess it up and lose 400$

I fail to see how your lack of a backup is Sony's fault.

You didn't have a backup, so all data lost (that could have been backed up) is your fault.

There is absolutely no way to get the data off of the PS3 with a third party software, I tried when my HDD became corrupt. You can however, fix the corrupted part and recover the data but that is not your issue. I know you have a warranty and all but opening up that bad boy and having at the thermal paste is not brain surgery if you have the heart, plus it is widely covered on the net with lots of 'how to's' and such. Also, finding a third party service that will fix the YLOD for you is a far better option (most say) than sending into Sony for repairs. By going the Sony route, you most definitely will have your HDD wiped, but using a "shop" to fix it and telling them not to reformat the drive is the only way to save that data. I've only experienced a hard driver corruption (only hours before the save file update, mind you) and I did everything I could to keep that data because I was super far along. I would check out avenues before going through Sony.

Also, in case it wasn't stated above, sticking your drive into another PS3 will automatically reformat it (wiping it).

??? OK, but the HDD is intact were the data is... Right. But it is encrypted for some stupid reason and when they fix or exchange the PS3 they can't be nice enough to just retrieve the data and put it on the new HDD. NO, that is toooooo much work for them.

Thanks for your thorough answer... Already sent it to Sony ... DOOOO!!! (as Homer would have said)

But i still have the HDD :dopey: (a small victory... since it it worthless)

Im just so... :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
It will not be worthless if they send you back your original PS3. Each PS3 has a key encryption tied to each HDD (hence the data only be accessible by your original). As far as I am aware, your HDD should be in tact when placing it back in your PS3.

Now, saying that, I have no idea of Sony's policy on repairing/replacing PS3 and/or the chance of you receiving yours back.

So did you send the PS3 back without a hard drive? If you did I bet Sony will notice and send you your PS3 back without fixing it.

So, why should they do something that would have taken you a couple of minutes, and a memory stick, to have done?

Sony/PD gave you this feature as folk complained that you originally couldn't back saves up. Now you can back up GT5 savegame, you're shouting at Sony because you haven't done it.

It's no one's fault but your own.

Is a game progress save to usb/flash drive (PS3 gsme save utility) enough to cover you in the event of ylod? Some talk of having to have an entire system backed up? I would have thought as long as you can load your game save data onto a new ps3 your GT5 progress would/could be restored to new system

If I remember correctly, save games cannot simply be used by anyone on any system. The saves are tied to a particular user on a particular system. As such, in order to be able to use a save game, you need to retain that user on that system. Please anyone correct me if this is wrong.
