Let's see...

1. Why do they like to post in wierd colors with boldface? Would it be considered disruptive if mere mortals were to do it?

2. Why does Famine get to joke about seal clubbing in his custom title (at least, he did for a while)? Seems kind of wierd, considering an infraction I got a while back (don't want to risk further sanction for being sarcastic, so I'll leave it to the mods to look it up in my infraction history).

3. Why is so much personal preference allowed into the process? You'd think Jordan would make them govern as he would govern... but it seems like what happens to a thread varies greatly depending on which mod sees it first.

4. I also remember reading that they're supposed to govern as Jordan would, so what do I believe here?

The 1st question is the one's posting style. Everybody had a different posting styles and habits. For example, every post by me had at least one smiley. The Vanishing Boy had a arrow each paragraph, and (as you say) Famine had a bold indigo text. Delphic Reason's post usually ends with the wink smiley (;)).

Hope this helps. :)

Question 1 was answered in the previous post.

Question 2: you may want to stick to the facts. Yes, as you pointed out you have received an infraction – which was related to abusive language. The user title you reference was not in any way abusive, so your comparison is tenuous at best.

Question3:, Jordan has selected mods who he believes will apply the forum rules in the same manner he would. In addition, there is extensive peer review of mod decisions as a mod group, and Jordan also has constant oversight of what we do on top of that.

As for your fourth question, refer to #3.

Famine wasn't seal clubbing. He was going clubbing with Seal!

I'm sure they had a fun time at the clubs.

and Mclaren's Angel always post like
=^-^= Hiya!

Abusive towards a forum member? Who was I abusing? I have absolutely no memory of abusing anyone.

Unless of course the GT Auto car wash guys are members here. Which I highly doubt.

So, anyway...

Let's see...

This isn't really a question about mods. We have many members who post with different styles. Most mods don't - and in fact I always have and haven't always been a mod... In fact my bold indigo predates my membership of this site by seven years.

2. Why does Famine get to joke about seal clubbing in his custom title (at least, he did for a while)? Seems kind of wierd, considering an infraction I got a while back (don't want to risk further sanction for being sarcastic, so I'll leave it to the mods to look it up in my infraction history).

The Infraction you got was for breaking the site rules. Being sarcastic doesn't break the site rules so you won't get an Infraction for it. If you can suggest what site rules "I ♣ seals" breaks, we're happy to listen.

That's not a question about mods either.

Four is true - every moderating decision, even post deletions and edits, can be seen by every moderator (only Jordan has the power to hard-delete anything) and every Warning or Infraction is automatically logged (we cannot stop it) in a specific forum.

That being the case, three is inaccurate and I can't help but wonder why you would reach that conclusion with no evidence available to you.

According to this thread:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=179930

Jordan has declared petitions are permissible. Whether or not it was supposed to mean "don't bother", I thought that, according to the letter of the law, there was still opportunity to get PD's attention and show public support for commonsense changes (yes, I was going to mail it to them, and I have the relevant information). TB, however, decided to lock the thread anyway, despite what Jordan said. This decision was never undone.

So, what I'm saying is, if Jordan has said X type of thread isn't banned, the rest of the staff shouldn't lock those types of threads unless they turn into flamewars. Or am I being too literal?

As for the infraction, the closest rule I can find is:

You will not behave in an abusive and/or hateful manner, and will not harass, threaten, nor attack any individual or any group.

I really don't see how my comment was all that hateful (especially 10 permanent points worth of hateful), and I definitely don't see how "I club seals" is less offensive than what I said, considering the number of people who become enraged over that stuff.

Please, enlighten me.

So this is a prolonged axe-grind about a thread of yours being locked?

It may have escaped your attention, but the last time you complained about your thread being locked (in this forum), Jordan directly responded to you. The site owner is clearly directly aware of the issue. Why, then, would the decision be "undone" and why imply disparity between the site owner and a specific member of staff?

The offence you committed broke that rule, yes. "I ♣ seals" does not. Note that the word "offensive" doesn't actually appear in the quoted section - anyone may take offence at anything and for any reason at any time, but that does not confer a responsibility to not offend them upon anyone else and our rules do not require this.

Your specific infraction, however, did break the rules. This was explained to you by the moderator in question at the time (November) and was not responded to at the time.

If someone genuinely is offended by it and uses the report button, or a mod thinks that the earlier could be the case. I (club sign) seals, hasn't been reported by anyone and no one feels it innappropriate, (accept you, however you opinion is very bias in this case).

One thing that ussualy gets you better responsises (can't guarantee it) is speaking to the mods over PM not just opening a thread.

Unless of course the GT Auto car wash guys are members here. Which I highly doubt.

So using a word that the public voted the second worst insult they judge to be used to insult the physically disabled doesn't break the AUP?

As the mod who issued the infractions I would beg to differ, and would also question why you did raise you disagreement directly with me back in November and have instead chosen to drag it up now?

That you used the term to attack the GT Car Wash guys makes no difference, you used it as a term of abuse, and that breaks the AUP.

As a footnote, if you can find any evidence of Seals themselves being offended in anyway by the words Famine used I will more than gladly reverse the infraction (which will be tricky as to the best of my knowledge Seal's can neither read nor comprehend English).

That you also seem unable to differentiate between the two actually worries me on a more basic level, that you feel it reasonable to try and mitigate or justify your comments rather than apologise for them I also find quite shocking.

I have no idea what to say, and apologizing now would seem fake.

But whatever, I'm sorry. I've embarrassed my country, and probably hurt some people's feelings, through massive ignorance of social norms.

As for the seal clubbing joke, I don't even really mind it. I just saw some inconsistency there, since the PETA people probably wouldn't care too much for it.
