Codemasters, iracing, and rfactor truly put PD to shame when it comes to the racing side of things. Just check out this video, I feel 100% sure PD would never even consider this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZWeEoOxKKw&feature=youtu.be

More and more I'm starting to realize PD does not understand racing. No flags, no good damage, and bad AI that does not understand racing.

Anyone agree PD needs to better learn the difference between racing and simply driving?

I know how you feel. I have rFactor 1 and the physics are sooooo much more realistic than GT5's.

This thread won't go well, the fanboys will just tell you that the GT series "has never been about the racing" and if you want that you should go and play the games you mentioned.

Personally I agree completely, they don't need to go to the levels in that rFactor video but they do need to add something, the racing in GT5 is woeful.

It is true that I would like for GT5 to feature a richer racing environment. However, in response to your question, I do not agree that PD needs to better learn (???) the difference between racing and driving. PD has never claimed Gran Turismo to be a racing simulator. Rather, Gran Turismo is "the real driving simulator" as printed in capital letters on the cover of Gran Turismo 5. Kaz himself has touched on this subject in past interviews.

I've been thinking the exact same thing. Sometimes I feel like Polyphony are simply out of their depth.

It's pretty much all true. Something are hard, and GT is a console game - so I don't expect an ultra real tire model. But they should have something. Damage is a good example. It's good to finally have, but when you can just pit, rebuild the car and get right back into the race, it takes away some of the fun.

I agree the racing is terrible. Especially vs. the AI. I just miss things like the flags, safety cars and challenging opponents. Online is a lot better but I would still like things like realistic damage and debris and oil on track after accidents.

But you can't expect a full racing game from a game that advertises itself as a driving simulator. Wish they included some mountain roads with traffic to simulate the driving on:D

I agree 100%. The racing aspect of GT has not kept up with other games and that's why I want to play. There's plenty of things missing but the biggest is the awful AI - no games AI is perfect but GT5 is particularly bad.

Can't compare a PC sim to a console sim as a PC can pull off a lot more stuff because the tech you can put on it is unlimited, whereas GT5 is limited to what's inside the PS3. Heck, you can mod the crap out of iRacing, but you can only race modify 15 rides in GT5. GT are more like realistic video games than simulators actually.

GT5 also has to please a casual audience, as a casual audience don't really do PC gaming like the members on this board do.

PD doesn't need to learn anything, they just need to keep improving is all.

PC sims were already better than GT5 on these aspects when the typical user's hardware configuration was much less powerful than a PS3. I don't believe that lack of processing power by the PS3 is a valid argument.

I also find that pleasing a casual audience cannot be a valid excuse for not providing options for more advanced/hardcore people either.

^Fair point.

But also a lot of GT5 players I know, cousins, friends, co workers, don't really care about flags and racing rules as much as they do about the cars and drive.

PD perhaps knows their audience a bit more than we credit them to.

👍👍👍👍👍
cater to sometime lose always, cater to always lose sometimes

that is the problem, here we should be talking about HOW t fix this and PD should LISTEN and make an inbetween you know??

Then why did they add Nascar, WRC, Super GT, DTM, LM Cars? For "driving"?

And making the physics more realistic doesnt make the driving better?

Just think what you say next time.

first thing, the ps3 is plenty capable of the rFactor goodies.

second, i do agree with most of you, the AI are just to slow.

PD has always been about the car(whatever it may be) and the drive. so if you put it this way, GT series is a stand alone in this market, every other car game is full on about the racing aspect(which is fine by me). so gt is filling a niche` in the market that others arn't touching.

From reading threads like this, I just came up with a way to make a billion dollars by next year. I'm just going to sell empty boxes with the words "Best product you could ever buy that does everything you ever wanted" printed on the side, and sell them for $1000 dollars a pop. If it says it on the box, it must be true. I'll clean up with almost no investment.

don't care for gt5. Move on.

Life made simple.💡

ffs why is this always the line that gets spat out when someone has something bad to say about gt5 ffs
people are trying to make it better for everyone and themselves if you think it's perfect then cool but imagine it with all the things, features thats should, could and maybe in the game!!!!!!!

Yea if you dont like the thread dont respond
They have the right to complain
Even if you dont agree with some of the points dont bother arguing about it because it will turn out like every other complaint thread.

It's not their goal. True sims are not for that wide audience. Kazunory's dream is not just driving sim but also a game that can be enjoyed by everyone.

It's like in music - why don't you compare Michael Jackson to Dream Theater? One is more simple, second is more technical, both they exist and don't bugging each other.

You may compare "sim" part of the game but not entire game. And that's make it whole different comparison.

Plain easy: they want wider audience to sell their game and make it more approachable to average player. If Kaz want a true sim he will already created it.

Really...........REALLLLLYYYY.

When will it end. I swear if I worked at any of the other companies other than PD, I would pay people to register for gtplanet, and continue this nonsense of berating PD(is that whats happening) .

I can't believe this.

GT would have wider appeal if the realism were increased. It would then capture the attention of those seeking the highest levels of realism while retaining its existing fan base. Making the game more realistic is not the same as taking away unrealistic options. PD wouldn't really need to subtract anything to improve the game.
