Rub your thumbnail across it.
If it catches the scratch, it's a deep one and will need touch up paint & some 1500 grit to repair it. This takes a long time to do, but you get out of it what you put into it. I've made vehicle long key marks (X g/f) disappear with well matched touch up paint in a weekend. 3M rubbing compound, or the stuff I talk about below, does a good job at removing the 1500 grit haze.
If your fingernail doesn't catch the scratch, it's shallow and can be buffed out. Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and some elbow grease should take care of that and other scratches/swirls you have.
