Sorry if the topic is a bit morbid, but its something we all need to think about before its too late! What song (or music in general) would you think most fitting to be played at your funeral? It would have to be a highly personal song, the one that really says what you want to say as the last bit of "you" in the world...

My pick would have to be a Jimi Hendrix song, either Castles Made of Sand (beautiful words and music, about the constantly changing and unpredictable nature of life), or Voodoo Child (slight return) ("I'm a Voodoo Child! I'll see you in the next world... and don't be late!"), if I feel like going out with a bang. This song has some of the most powerful and emotionally raw (but beautiful) guitar playing ever put down to tape IMO... like a real cry of a soul, its almost in a different catagory for me, it transcends the fact that it was played with an electric guitar...

I'd be happy with either song I think, but would end up choosing Castles Made Of Sand, because its generally a more fitting kind of sound (not harsh or raucous) and wouldn't offend anyone (esp oldies - I think I'll die before I get that old myself), there's just a more reflective kind of mood to it you know, whilst still reflecting my love of guitar and my eccentricity, whilst not being cheesy or obvious like many songs people choose (Tears Of Heaven by Clappo being the prime example of an over-used song doing funeral duties).

This is sort of a serious thread, so try not to post things like "See You Later Alligator", despite the obvious humorous quality. Maybe a funny song IS more YOU than something innately moving or sad... but I think most people would want their last song to truly reflect them in a serious way. Plus a funny song could REALLY have the wrong effect, some people at the funeral could be quite upset about a song that may be constrewed to make a mockery of your life, even if you chose it... SO, what do you think is most appropriate for you and why?

Ok, maybe I should allow joke posts if you must....

"I Started A Joke" (don't remember artist)(..."that got the whole world laugh-ing")

"Back In Black" - AC/DC (..."I hit the sack")

"My Generation" - The Who ("...I wanna die before I get OLD!")

"Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" - James Brown

"I Climb Ten Stairs" - The Wiggles

"Knock Knock Who's There?" - The Wiggles

"Can You Dig It" - The Wiggles

Can't think of any more.

Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

Beautiful song... albeit overplayed.

Would be funny if it was a criminal's funeral, though.

Freebird-Skynyrd
Angel from Montgomery-Susan Tedeschi
Believe-Brooks and Dunn

Nah really I would want erm...

Dont Wanna Miss A Thing (Is that what it is really called?) by Aerosmith.

DeLoreanBrown
Prelude - J.S.Bach
If its the same "Prelude" I am thinking of (Bach did many, I'm assuming its the funeral march one here...), then damn. That takes the cake for the saddest tune possible. Are you worried people wouldn't cry otherwise? :sly: only joking... its a truly dignified and beautiful peice.

Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't) Fear the Reaper.
Feeder- Forget About Tomorrow
Placebo- Pure Morning (Just for the hell of it :D)

And if I'm killed by a person in disguise 'The Who- Won't get fooled Again'

Can't recall at the moment but i think it's called 'themen' & no it's not the dirge but that one that builds from a real 4/4 intro , kinda spacey , solemn yes but i don't want people to have a laugh & a giggle , ide want them to freak out a little and consider their own situation . Anyway , the point is moot , ive been dead for 10 years last May .

Since it's joke songs riight now and sadly the first thing that came to mind is...

Britney Spears - Hit me baby one more time.

Mine were serious. I would honestly ask for all of them to be played.

Good Subject...

I'd probably ask for AIC.. "Down in a Hole" looks just right from where I'm sitting..

"Got me Wrong" from the SAP EP wouldn't be a bad choice either...

Best joke post yet. Unless its .... not a joke

"Always look on the briiiiight side of death (do da do da do da do da do)"
"Right until you draw your ter-mi-nal breath (da do, da do da do da do)"

Classic.

I am sort of trying to keep this thread serious (despite my strong non-serious inclinations), so maybe people could post their serious nominations along with the joke songs... I'd also like to know WHY people feel certain songs would suit them....

Dream Theater - I walk beside you
Pink Floyd - Time
Joe Satriani - Souls of Distortion
Pink Floyd - Sorrow
Pink Floyd - The Great Gig in the Sky

and of course, the whole of Pink Floyd's Delicate Sound of Thunder

Pink Floyd are getting a good run for funeral music. Personally I reckon the solo piano version of (what evolved into) "Us & Them" is a beautiful piece of music, very moving and sad.

Not sure about Satch though! :scared:

Joe Satriani - Souls of Distortion
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky
The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It
Gary Newman - Cars

And for kicks and giggles, Motley Crue - Kickstart My Heart :D
