I don't think a story like "The Hunt for Red Oktober" can be associated with "in your face" rock about war.
The hunt for a deathly but silent / stealth doomsday weapon is more cerebral. Litle to no blood leading to ... the end of mankind.
In that sense, the music that I always have associated with the pure sense of FEAR is this one. It is played during the evacuation of the american embassy in the movie "The Killing Fields".
It is called "Evacuation". But it could also be called "THEY ARE COMING". Or simply ... "FEAR"
