Try reading the original article for some context http://www.scmagazine.com.au/Feature/293365,exclusive-how-sony-is-fighting-back.aspx

That eurogamer article tried to make it all sound as scary as possible for consumers, when in fact a lot of the stuff Wahlin was talking about was regarding their internal security on-site and how they monitor what their staff is doing. Most of the stuff that would affect us is just automated monitoring of patterns to identify suspicious account activity.

Hmm, that "Cold War dude" didn't explain me what if hackers are not browsing the net through a PS3 browser, or using a PSN account. LOL

Again... from the original article, the browser related stuff that he mentioned was aimed at monitoring their own people on their internal networks to make sure they aren't causing security issues (knowingly or unknowingly). Most of what he talks about has little do with things being done from a PS3. Its about the general security of Sony's networks and facilities.

On the consumer end they want to have better automated monitoring so that if something weird starts happening (i.e. purchases made by your account are suddenly coming from an IP address in Nigeria) they can spot it quickly and help prevent fraud to protect their customers.

One inflammatory article from Eurogamer isn't a good reason to start freaking out.

Don't care. If anyone's interested I'm just scratching my arse and about to make a cup of tea.

According to people who jailbroke the PS3 in articles Sony gather lots of secret information about you off your console when your connected to PSN and monitor all sorts of behaviour without your knowledge, much like the Apple app fiasco. I can imagine a cold war type spy bunker at Sony HQ with hundreds of people at desks
