"ordem e progresso" progress??????? with those prices??

Blame on the Portuguese that steal from us and slave our people when they discover our country just a "few" years ago (04/22/1500).

Guys i live in Brazil and everything here is expensive. The g27 in USA costs $299, in Brasil it costs $850

Do some research, first. I've bought mine for USD 530, legally.

"ordem e progresso" progress??????? with those prices??

Sorry, mate, but I think you could look at your own country before criticizing the other's.
I'm not a patriot myself, but my country is growing (the gdp will rise over 7%, this year) even with wrong policies and other problems. Your country is in a huge a debt crisis, and won't grow at all, am I wrong?
I know you're still miles ahead of us in human development, but if "progress" is your point, you're using the wrong argument.

I bought my copy of the GT5 in Brazil before the launching, that is the American version, I did not bear well here to wait until day 9 for the launching on the part of the Sony of Brazil.

If it had waited until day 9 to have a thing of this in my hands, interest that processed the Sony of Brazil! This is a lack of total respect with the Brazilian consumer!

The Sony of Brazil is burnt still more making this, therefore to secure a launching that theoretically would have to be world-wide in day 24 until day 9, is a shame!

I prefer to buy more cheap of smuggler with price and superior quality, knowing that the product comes of the U.S.A., instead of buying a national product of terrible quality!

It stays my opinion here and at the same time my critic in respect to the Sony of Brazil! What they and many other multinationals make with the Brazilian consumers are pure LACK OF SHAME IN the FACE!

No mercado livre? Paraguai? Ai nao conta né?

English only, please.
I didn't buy it from Paraguay or Mercado Livre, but from a local retailer.

lolll you bether start reading history books.
Portugal gave brasil independence in 1822 with no problems . bether blame your politicians like we do, and your people like you said , are you indian? if soo sorry , if you arent indian or african descedent , provable you are european descendent , so it was your ascestors that enslaved also. :P

Why is the blu ray case in that picture not a 'PS3' branded case? Or are they all like that in Brazil? This kind of stuff happens in asian markets (with DVD's) where they are geniune but made under licence for local sale only. They are substantially cheaper and the quality varies.

I have to say I would be dissapointed with that kind of quality. I have noticed that the best printed disks and cases are ones made in Japan (obviously they expect the higest quality there) even EU and US made games can't match that kind of quality.

Robin.

Sorry to say it, but what do you expect from a disk manufactured in a developing country?

maybe you should complain to your stupid government for taxing imported games and consoles into oblivion like the scumbag protectionists they are. I heard the playstation 2 only got realeased there a year ago because sony couldn't make a business case for it before that time because of your governments policies. your leaders are the problem, not sony. they have to keep costs to a minimum in brazil becaus of your tax and import laws. you should really know this yourself and educate others

Another thing that leaves me infuriated is the prices applied in the new national PS3 sold here in Brazil. Before the version of the American PS3 for R$ 1.200,00 was bought, now the Brazilian version costs R$ 1.999,00.

Theoretically the national version would have to be cheaper, but not, these mercenary ones only think about fattenings its banking accounts!

“The Sony of Brazil is a SHAME!”

I bought my Gran Turismo 5 import from USA.
I paid R$ 164.40 -> US$ $ 91.00.
And I got the game on 25/11.
My Blu-ray Disc is perfect, with good print quality.

It is a lack of respect for Brazil's Consumers who waited more days to play and when finally at hand this wonderful game ...

The Brazilian consumer market has a lot of buying power, unfortunately here also has a lot of piracy ... But ... GT5 is proof of piracy. Sony Brazil should have invested more in quality here.

An example is StarCraft 2. In Brazil the game was sold for R$ 59.90 -> US$ 33.00 and U.S. sales were excellent. Blizzard gave full support to our language, the game came around in PT-BR both in speech and in texts.

then ... is a pity that those who bought here to encourage our industry to grow more and more took it as retribution ... but at least the game is the same.

GT5 >>>>>> all racing games.

Hugs =)

it's not sony's fault, it's brazils fault. their taxes are too high on imports and their laws are extremely protectionist thus insane prices and black market. STOP BLAMEING SONY

Sorry to say it, but what do you expect from a disk manufactured in a developing country country?

It's not like that pal. A lot of things here are made with great quality. Including Blu-ray discs. The problem is, they rushed.

You couldn't be more ridicuolous.
What a shame, mate, were you live I'm sure you have the education to avoid this kind of rubbish talk.

A PS3 imported from the USA costs, here in Brazil, R$ 900,00. That's after import taxes (35%), shipment costs and the profit of independent importers.

The official brazilian PS3, from Sony Brazil, which has NO import taxes or overseas shipment costs, has a beefy price tag of R$ 1.999,00.

So, it's not Sony's fault. Ok.

Not saying our govern is perfect, but the matter of the PS3 price is Sony's decision ONLY.

Analysis: Inside Brazil's Video Game Ecosystem
[Brazil's game development market is underdeveloped, but Divide By Zero CEO James Portnow believes it has "infinite possibility." In this detailed regional analysis, he explains why.]

Recently, an unusual opportunity came across my desk. It required that I do some business in Brazil. I knew nothing of the Brazilian games industry, so I began to ask around. To my surprise, no one else seemed to know much about either, so I just took the leap and headed south.

Beyond my business dealings, I tried to do as much general fact finding as possible while there. Here’s what I learned.

Overview

Brazil is a place of infinite possibility. It has the drive, the wealth, and a large enough highly educated populace to become the next Korea. It has a large, well established "gamer" demographic and a remarkable desire to grow its own national industry. It is also unfettered by the traditions and mindset that many of the more established markets have developed.

I believe there are great opportunities for members of the US game industry in Brazil, but there are also great obstacles. Piracy is rampant, the industry is inexperienced, funding is almost nonexistent, distribution is next to impossible, and the government is either apathetic or hostile. It’s a risky place. My money says there will either be a boom in the next decade or the industry in Brazil will never start.

I’ll try to go over in depth what I see as the challenges facing the industry in Brazil, the possibilities on the horizon, and what we, the international development community, can do to help the Brazilian industry overcome the hurdles they face -- and how we benefit by doing so.

Hurdles

First, the elephant in the room...

Piracy in Brazil

I’ve long heard other people in the industry say Brazil simply isn't a viable market for games because of the piracy rate. This isn't true. It’s not a viable market for games because of the tax rate.

Games which are six months old in the US are being sold through legitimate vendors at 250 reais, or around $140 US dollars. This is an exorbitant price. It’s prohibitive. If you’re reading this article, you're probably pretty into games and know many people who are. Think about yourself and your friends. How many games would you purchase per year at $140? One, maybe two? Would you buy a console in the first place if you knew that every game you were going to buy was $140? All the consoles I saw in Brazil were sold at roughly one and a half to two times their price in the United States as well.

and stop blaming good companies like sony! complain to the brazilian government!!!

Hey guys, why don't you just buy games from US?

I give you an example, although here in Portugal the medium wage is a lot higher than what you've got back there in Brasil, GT5 costs 69,9€ here. That is up to 92,5USD. We have shopto.co.uk, from our British folks, and the game costs 43€ shipped, 57USD.

Also, some of you said you have already contacted on Sony-BR, wait for a reply as it might take its time. If not getting one, contact with Sony-Americas, then escalating to Sony-JP.

Not saying its not important, but if the game was not working it was a more serious situation.

Off topic: Please don't start Portugal vs Brasil discussion, neither you or us (BR, PT) were alive the time Portugal "discovered" Brasil, so and as far as we speak the same language you are like brothers to our people. There are many Brasileiros here, as there are Portugueses there, sometimes all we get is a rotten sample of what that Country is. Regularly, BR's in PT are not nice, as I know that PT's think they are wiser than you.

Einstein said, "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former", so stupid people are everywhere, Portugal, Brasil, Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, but we should all get together ;)

Best regards from Portugal, to everyone.
Have a nice game!

You're right, it's the government's fault.
But that doesn't allow Sony to sell junk. They have a name and a reputation for a reason. High taxes doesn't imply that every single product sold here is rubbish.
All we, brazilians, do is to complain while we elect another bunch of filthy leaders.

Ok, we are tired of knowledge that we have abusive fees of taxes in our country, but to say that the guilt is only of our government this also already is excessively, or it goes to say me that these prices are only guilt of our government! Sony also has its parcel of guilt!

Perhaps ours presitente has a table where it says that the PS3 in Brazil must cost R$ 1.999,00 there.

It makes to laugh me!

Blame the goverment and Sony brasil - the first one for the hight tax rates and the second one for the low quality product they are selling - one thing is for sure - your not the one to blame and someone is at fault

There's now talks about Brasil helping Portugal financially 👍

I feel sorry for brazilians and this situation needs to change, didn't mean to come off rude!

EDIT: also , I don't think sony brazil deserves much blame here because what I think they are trying to do is to cut costs so the game is as cheap as possible for brazilian consumers, a high quality disc and package may have been even more expensive. Probably giving the contract to stamp these to a local plant brought quality down but probably the end price as well.

Look on the bright side, you will rarely ever see the disc - it'll stay inside your PS3 for a looooong time. :)

:(

Sorry, but Sony it's the only one to blame, because Sony DADC Brazil made the disc following order from it's base at US or Japan. They doesn't cut prices because of lack of interest, Sony among other company's receive government incentives at Manaus.

Sony released God of War 3 and Heavy Rain here in Brazil with the same top quality print as the US version with the exact same price tag.

Again, who made the disk and print it was SONY DADC Brazil, there is no third party doing this.

anyway I think the quality of the localization is more indicative of the quality of a videogame, seems like a ****** move on sony's part then. Is it localized fully? and well?

No, he's British. Sadly we don't :(

There is none, only at the box and manual, that's it.
The rest come from Portugal, we speak the same Portuguese but it's not the same as we speak here in Brazil.

It's like English from UK and US or Canada, it's all English right?
Wrong, same here.
