Trailer

There you go. I'm kind of mixed on this game so far. On one hand, I'm looking forward to creating my own fighter, something I've been wanting to do in a game like this forever, and on the other hand, I really hope they improve the fighting system. I've said it before, but Soul Calibur's combo and fighting system could never compare to Tekken, for example. Soul Calibur II was way too simple, and most fights could easily be won using either the same 2-3 hit combo over and over again, or just straight button mashing. Tekken requires a lot of practice to get some of the bigger, more complex combos down, which leads to a better challenge, more fun, and a sense of accomplishment when you get good at the game. Bah, anyway, went on a little of a rant there. I'll rent SC III before I buy it.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I actually cannot wait for Soul Calibur III to come out! :O I am getting very excited about the fighter creation since I can try to make myself in the game! One thing that I am conerned about with the fighter creation is that the numbers of moves and cosmetic stuff will be too little to even have fun with it. I just hope it will be as deep as those Smackdown's Create A Wrestler! :O

So far, I don't feel very satisfied with the new characters. :grumpy: I would like it better if they added more than just 3. Look at the jump of characters from Marvel vs. Capcom to Marvel vs Capcom 2. The character selection just overwhelmed me with more replay value.

Still, I know I will enjoy this game as much as SCI and SCII. :O

When is the japan rls date.....i mean release...O_o

I believe the Japanese release date is some time in late November. The game is scheduled for a US release on October 25th. Namco has said that they are going to release the game in US first.

Yep yep! :O 👍 I already got it reserved! :O

This is the place to talk about SoulCalibur 3.

The game has just recently hit store shelves and I was lucky enough to get a copy (the second to last one in town actually!).

Do any of you have a copy, are you enjoying it?

If not, are you looking forward to getting it?

Any and all of your thoughts are appreciated. :D

I'll be back later on after I've beat the game a few times,
till then,

That's really, really odd because I searched and came up with nothing but a SC2 thread and a "what games do you own" thread.

Oh well, I suppose the great thing about being a mod is how I can merge threads in no time at all. ;)

So does anyone else actually have the game?

Also, what do you think of it?

And more specifically, what do you think of the new single player mode as well as the create a character mode.

I have been sorta disappointed so far with the create a character mode but we will see how that goes as I unlock everything. :D

Btw, judging by the post dates, I would have to say that no one owns it yet or no one who owns it is interested in talking about it.

Another thing:
On the up-side, the number of playable characters looks like it has increased. 👍

And I had no clue assassin was a woman, totally thought it was a man. :boggled:

I was pretty pumped for this game, especially because of the Create-a-Fighter, and I hate to hear that it's disappointing so far. Can you unlock more "accessories" for your fighter? I'll still give it a rental sometime soon.

Yes you can unlock more, and there is still tons more for me to unlock.

Also, don't take my words at face value.
I was in a bad spot when I wrote my last post.

At this point the game is much better and I am slowly starting to get into the more complex levels with more and more content to enjoy.

Still can't give it an honest review yet, however, compared to last night, the game looks about 10 times better. 👍

Just for the record though...
I wrote my last post at 7pm (6:58).
I ended up staying awake playing SCIII until 3am. :trouble: :dopey: :D

Played a demo of it, thought it was pretty cool. I had the original soul calibur on my dreamcast! That was an awesome game, pity the dreamcast got discontinued..

Yeah, that was awesome. Shame. :(

is this ps2 only or multi-platform like the second game?

When i typed it in on IGN.com it just came up with the PS2 article straight away, so i guess that means it's PS2 exclusive, unless they announce otherwise.

Lo!!!
Just got it yesterday, and it's a freakin' blast!

Tho, there have been some odd changes, like the voice over for some characters(i.e. Astaroth's voice over sounds retarded!!!!  )
But the whole ability to change the stock characters' apperances make up for it sorta.

What else...

There's some new & different moves, some of the storyline for the characters is playable, kinda cool. Haven't gotten much further than that cos of work & stuff. :grumpy:

But it's a worthy investment for the fans of the SC series. 👍

Me thinks that is a random characterization, not the actual assassin. If you fight more people along the way, you'll find they all have similiar moves, for instance: I was fighting a dude in 'conquest' mode(can't remember the real name) and he had the same 'kick' grapple as assassin... the one were he kicks you like 5 times and boots you over his head in the other direction... so I think it's just a random characterization.

yeah, i noticed it was ps2 exclusive in the ign review. id prefer it on my x, but, ive both so it doesnt really matter. ill have to give it a rent ... its hard to be a fan of fighing games with only the ai to fight against :(

*bad memories of ai doing nothing but duck and punch all round regardless of my attack :grumpy: *

I just bought the game, I'm gonna give an overview in few hour. I didn't pop the game yet.

(edit)
OMG the intro is so cool!

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I got the game along with the Limited Edition Guide! :O 👍

You guys are welcome to ask me anything about unlocking stuff and I will look it up in the book. I already got everything possible for the CAS I believe, but I still need to unlock more disciplines for each class. Right now, I am playing with a Pirate class to unlock the Ivy discipline since I just got Cervantes! :O

This game is sooo fun! :O Having friends over to play with helps unlock more stuff to buy as we play hundreds of battles. COTS is also a good way to unlock some stuff too, but this in this mode you can get things that can't be obtained from hundreds of battle and such.

BTW....I really don't enjoy the Chronicles of the Sword very much. :grumpy:

Can you use your created fighter for the Chronicles of the Sword mode? In SCII, that mode did get kind of boring, I really hated the "dungeons" or whatever they were called where you had to fight the same enemy like 12 times before finally fighting a boss. Is it any different this time around?

You can't use your created character in Chronicles of the Sword sadly. :nervous: You have to create a new fighter to be the main character, but you can attempt to make him/her just like your CAS character. :O

I find that this COTS is worse than the one in SCII. Just imagine those dungeon like thing, but now you have to move your characters across the map from point to point to engage in either a starcraft look alike fight or a Soul Calibur style fighting (it depends on the situation if the game would allow this). It is all about going from road to road and smashing up enemy outpost to engage them and get more outspost. :O

It really isnt that bad in my opinion, but you should at least try it out to see if you like it. :O

You can Create a fighter outside of the Chronicles mode, but then have to create another in the Chronicles mode to use it there? :odd: I assume you still have all the creation options for each one, so that you could just make the exact same character in Chronicles mode that you have outside of it?

Yep thats right! :O 👍 Creating a fighter outside Chronicles won't allow you to use it in Chronicles. :nervous: You got to make a new one just for the Chronicles which is lame in my opinion.

Haha, no kidding. It's completely pointless. Ah well, I'll rent it sometime this week.

Well, I've been playing pretty steady now and there isn't too much left to unlock (for what I can tell).

However, I'm still wondering just how much there is to unlock.
No way of really telling either. :(

But on the positive side, I've unlocked all the disiplines for the created fighters... Or atleast I think I have. :D
The "Sword Master" is the final type of character and the "SM" can use any of the styles.

My suggestion for unlocking as much as possible, beat the first type of single player mode with every character.

Although, I would like to know...

McLaren's Angel,
How does the game work unlocking new stuff?
Is it based on how much you play, win or lose?
Is it reaching certain goals like beating the game with this player or that?

Anything you can tell me about how the game works the unlocking process is greatly appreciated.

Also, any of the unlockables from the later points of the game that you could mention would help me get an idea of what I have left to do.
And for that matter, if you would... Tell me which unlockables you have liked most so far. :D

Hello Mr. Kent! :O 👍

Most of the game's unlockable stuff is by playing a certain amount of "battles". It can range from like 100 to 1300 Battles NO JOKE! :nervous: Racking up to over 1000 battles is not hard as it looks, but it just take time. Battle is counted as anything that involves simply a "battle". :O I don't think practice mode counts though. You can put the settings on EASY and put out how many matches you want. The battle count will add up quickly if you do this and don't look at your house clock. :) Win or lose, it still counts as a battle. :O

An easy way I picked up from Gamefaqs is having two controllers in the port so you can play VS Mode. Select two characters and set the life bar to the lowest possible. When the battle begin, kill that 2P or 1P to end the battle quick. This actually help add up the "Battle" quickly. :O

Few of the items can only be obtained in Chronicles of the Sword when you CLEAR a chapter.

Beating the game with other characters do unlock things, but its only for that character. You know like, illustrations, arts, movies and such.

You could unlock more characters by playing Tales of Souls and picking the right path that will lead you to fight an unlockable character. You can't just use one person to unlock everyone, but you have to pick the right paths with different people to get others. Once again, you don't have to do it this way. Play up to a certain amount of battles and you will unlock them too.

I prefer to keep on playing many battles since time would fly so fast that you wouldn't even know you already played 500 battles in one night. :O Few of the unlockables CAS stuff can only be unlocked when you reach about a certain hundred number of CAS stuff obtained.

O and a BIG SECRET! You can create KOS-MOS from Xenosaga because you can unlock her parts! :O Sorry, I didn't give you specific numbers of how many battles you need to do in order to get this or that. I it would probably take me several hours maybe to type everything in the unlockable section of this guide. :O
