Remember those reality TV shows where you vote somebody off of some show? Well, this is your chance to sound off about races you'd rather not compete in or want. You may choose to compete in a race, only as long as the certain competitors and stipulations aren't involved aren't in the race. For example, you may like the Roadster endurance as long as you can race Mazda Miatas TUNED. Or, you may hate the Trial Mountain 2 Hour race only as long as you don't have to have normal cars. By the way, this is stupid... why do you have to race NORMAL cars when the background for the Trial Mountain race feature race cars? Come on now!

Anyhow, races you don't want in GT4. I guess some examples are given, so sound off, GTP!

RACES SOME PEOPLE DON'T WANT:
Vitz Cup on Test Course
Drifting
Italian Avantgarde

Well, now it is your turn.

Any long race on the test course.
All stock races, they should allow sport upgrades.
Any races that make you buy a real expensive car that you wouldn't usally purchace, and handles like crap, just for 1 or 2 events.

Get rid of all test course races.

Get rid of races more than 5 laps, unless its an endurance or some other reason/short track.

And I can't say I agree with getting rid of stock races, its nice to prove you can drive with a cars 'natural' abilities :)

Test course races are a no no. That's looking almost unanimous. I'll stomach one Like The Wind equivalent. Not much more.

I think long series races are good, now we can save. I like stock races.

I too hate races where I have to buy and upgrade an expense car I'd otherwise never bother with. By the same token I hate cups like the Yaris event so I suppose both styles will be returning.

I had no problem with any races or championships in GT3 except the test course events, I thought everything was a unique and generally entertaining challenge.

Out of thoes the Vitz rce on the test course but really any race on the test course.

put BACK high performance cars in the 2hr Rome...the race is completley ruined because of the normal cars...I remember this on GT2 it was like Le Mans to me...:(

There's probably a thread for 'Game Modes that should be included', there's threads for everything else lol.

Long endurance races and championships with 50 laps each race at 10 different tracks like in GT3.

I just wanna see the competion be a little closer to what I'm driving. Not based on BHP, but on modifications. If I fully modded my car, I wanna race full modded cars. If I keep it stock I wanna race stock cars. Also, you should actually see what kind tuning is done to opponents. It doesn't have to be a detailed view, just wanna know what I'm up against. I just can't stand races, where I have to pick the right car for setting the competition right. I should pick a car, then let the game handle the competition.
Would also be nice to have some races where you could choose to race some of your own cars or something. Or put them up against each other in the 0-400 drag. Just an idea don't know if anyone likes it.

PD doesn't have enough time to put in all the stuff i want, but I trust them releasing a product that's worth my money. I'm sure lots of ideas here are more suitable for GT5 or even 6, but as long as they keep their promises, 100+ tracks, 700+ cars, improved physics, improved AI (!!!!!!), online play, and some new game modes/races.....I'll be happy.

You must be crazy, the 5 lap races are great!

Get rid of short races. I am a motorsport purist. Who the fluck has two or even five lap races? Isn't this supposed to be "The Real Driving Simulator"?
No "Drifting" please!!! It's a try-hard form of motorsport for people who can't put in quick lap times during a normal race. They are just Powerslides!!! Who can't control a powerslide and make it look good?

Exactly. Make all the races 20 laps, i'll be happy.

Drifting is already in GT3. And if you got to Arcade and select a car and it will list, RACE OR DRIFT. If thats in GT4, I could care less. But if its gonna be like NFS:Underground and have its own tracks. What a waste of good car and track space.

Can't agree more.

no 'total stock' type races, where you can't even fit racing tyres, exhausts or modify the suspension.
Even people who go in 'track days' with there daily driver usually fit a set of 'racing tyres'.
Maybe have 'road legal' series instead, where 'mild' tuning is aloud, but the more 'hardcore' mod's (extreme lightening, etc) would be illegal.

Take out having any race on the Test Course. Racing on the old one in GT1 and GT2 was fine, but it is a drag in GT3 because the track is so long. Other than that every other type of race is fine.

Vitz Races. And Kei Class, unless they slap a Suzuki Cappuccino in there for me to sip.

First off, your forgetting it's a game and most people myself included doesn't have much time to always do 20 minuet + long races. I like the 20 lap races but I like the 5 lap races too, they should all stay. As for drifting, you need to read up on the D1 a bit more once you have you might understand how much skill is needed to win a competition like that. I'm not even a drift fan but I know it's a proper form of motorsport and I know it takes skill.

Have you not been keeping up with GT4's progress, there IS a Suzuki Cappuccino and it's in GT4:P too.

no races on the test course what-so-ever..... I donn't mind the super speedway much...would ever like to see a slightly larger 2mile trioval (if you HAVE to have another oval)...but not the 5mile mess the test course is.

Yeah, I always find this funny, just because a real life race is 40-70 laps etc doesn't mean in a game it should be. Theres far more to real racing compared to a game with 'drone-AI' opponents. Having said that I think it would be good if they could implement a race length modifier, like in games dating back to the original Indy Car Racing? where u can alter the race length in a percentage. So make like 3-5 laps standard for most races but let the people that 'enjoy' 40-70lap races, every race , have that too. Then laugh at them when it takes forever to complete the game ;)

I think the rally section of the game needs a huge overhaul. Racing the same track three times over just with increasingly longer races is boring and repetitive. I realise that the current "circle" tracks will continue but couldn't they mix them up a little and have three different tracks for a rally championship?

For example have a Euro-Rally championship with the Swiss Alps track and two or three other tracks with a european feel (Citta d'Aria maybe). Then have 6 or so cars in championship with cars competing for overall victory based on their total times. GT3 only had two cars on the rally tracks so perhaps the cars could run in two car heats, or by themselves like the traditional rally method.

Lastly, just another idea on the rally section. I'd love to see a variety of cars in the rally championships. Rather than just all WRC cars have group B, Junior WRC, Group N and Historic. So far I've seen a few Group B cars, Plenty of Lancers and Imprezas for Group N and few cars that could race in the historic races. So here's hoping!!

Good thoughts on the Rally Mode.

I'll suffer Drift if it's in there but I don't want to, I don't play GT to drift, yes there's skill to it and it may even be a fully recognised form of motorsport, but so's a few hundred other championships we don't want in the GT games. Personally I think to spend time fishtailing your car, slaughtering your tyres, is NOT the sort of play GT games are synonymous with.

I think the race lengths are pretty well balanced atm, there are actually races out there where runs are so short, but even so they're a good way to get into the game. Especially as, at the level where you're competing in these short races, you're doing so in a snoringly slow car, who really wants to do 70 laps of Grand Valley Speedway in a Vitz?

Automatically detecting the level of competition and adjusting the AI cars won't be achieved through modding them, it'll be achieved through catch-up in the AI.

I would strongly suggest a '50-laps-per-championship' cap. Either 10 races 5 laps each, or 5 races 10 laps each. Ten/15/20+ laps on a 10 race series I really could do without. I'm guessing it was PD's idea of endurance racing by time, but still, "no, thank you".

As much as I like drifting I think it should remain something you can do, rather than something you must do in order to complete the game.

I also believe cpl_richie has the right idea for the rally section of the game. One car at a time on a timed battle would be the best format, PD can leave the head-to-head competition in the Arcade Mode.

Rally racing is in and everyone does that, drag racing was going to be in GT2 and no one had problems with that, the whole idea of a 100% complete status is that you complete the game 100%, do you people not realise that, if you didn't have to complete everything to get 100% it wouldn't be 100% complete would it.
Get it into your head everyone, it' a legit form of motosport, if you need to do the rally races to get 100% face the fact you'll have to do the drifting too, every competition in the game will be needed for that 100% completion.

Ive always thought of the Complex string as MY test course because it tests every thing, top speed cornering ability and Brakes, i say get rid of the test course and rename Complex String the test course

Here is a legit form of motorsport. Should this be in GT4? No! Why? Because it's crap! Just like "Drifting".

Well said Eagle. As I've said elsewhere, drifting goes against everything any tarmac racer has learned. And thats what Gran Turismo is about, racing, not posing.

Gran Turismo, as been said a billion times before, isn't a racing simulator but as it says on the box, a driving simulator.

Which leaves it open to all forms of motorsport/driving, including drifting although I admit lawnmower racing(?) is taking it a bit far :D I've drifted since GT1, since its just part of my driving style I guess so I can go 'Wahey!' ;) although I can't say I'm bothered about a specific mode for it. But with drift so popular, it isn't a suprise its gonna make an appearance.

If people hate is it so much, just don't do the drift races & forsake your beloved 100% completions (if there isn't a bug hehehe), which doesn't matter anyway.

Like hell it doesn't matter! We all know there's pride at stake and we all know we'll drift the damn cars if we have to, but we'll raise hell before, during and after we do!

I'd actually rather do the lawnmower thing, at least that'd have sheer novelty value.

Why the **** raise hell over it, it's going to be there and all your going to do is make yourself look like an asshole even though you might not be one by whining so damn much, I don't care too much for drifting myself but's it being in GT4 is hardly a bad thing when so many other people welcome it. Remeber it's not replacing anything we already have in GT, it's adding to it.

I think drifting should just be an online feature. Drifting in single player as we can see is very unpopular with the motorsport purists, which is a large part of GT's customer base. Instead, if drifting is made an online only part of the game with a drifter server, drifter chat room, etc, it would probably satisfy the drifting crowd and it would allow them to strengthen their community all while leaving the rest of the game untouched.
