Sound Off! Races You DON'T Want in GT4

Well it's not going to online only although it will be available online. Tbh I'm fed up of hearing people *****ing about the drift races (not refering to your post EVO), but heres a point inline with your comment, theres people here that dislike the rally races, should they be left out of the GT mode, oh and people that don't like the endurance races so thats them out, and thenn theres the people that don't like the short races so that leaves us with a game where you can buy and tune cars but no where to drive them. If someone can't handle the idea of a drift competition in GT4, screw them sorry but other peopel want this feature. I can accept that not everyone wants it but there is no need to go *****ing over it so damn much. If you took out all the races that some people somewhere didn't like there would be no game left. And another point back to EVO's post, about making it online only, I would only see that pissing of many people who don't or can't have online for there PS2's but it was an interesting thought, also making it arcade only would be pointless too (go back to my point on moving all the disliked races).

I don't know if Manchester just lost the latest round of football or something but you're clearly taking this more seriously than I am at least.

I don't like drifting, I don't choose to acknowledge it as a legitimate form of motor sport, I don't think you can successfully argue that it has the same level of following as the more established racing formats such as GT and Rally we see in Gran Turismo, but that doesn't matter - if it's included to appeal to a certain niche then that means more people buying GT games and more money for the developers with which to make great games and maintain them by adding more content via the online features of GT4 etc. If you think I don't recognise that, it's time to stop, breathe, and think again. I'm still entitled to say I don't like drift and I don't like the idea of *having* to drift to complete GT4 but I'll do it if I have no choice.

By the same token, I don't agree with many of the dislikes and complaints raised by people relating to a plethora of other features in the current GT range and potential features of the next GT releases. That doesn't give me the right to tell them to shut the hell up - we're here because this is where we express our opinions. If you don't have something constructive to contribute to a thread, don't.

Even people who go in 'track days' with there daily driver usually fit a set of 'racing tyres'.
Maybe have 'road legal' series instead, where 'mild' tuning is aloud, but the more 'hardcore' mod's (extreme lightening, etc) would be illegal.

Don't want to point anything out, but...

There are no "total stock" races. The two "stock car" races - the Polyphony Digital cup and the Trial Mountain 2hr Endurance - both allow racing tyres to be fitted. So the exact competition type you ask for is in fact already there. And I want MORE of them :D

Drifting... Drifting is NOT a form of motorsport. It's physical and demanding and skillful and all that, but it's NOT a form of motorsport. It is judged by human beings and not a stopwatch.

That, right there is why I wouldn't like to see drifting as part of the simulation mode. To avoid the turmoil.

On a personal level I wouldn't mind a bit if it's added, quite the contrary in fact. I'm just not looking forward to the crowds that will be pissing and moaning about having to learn how to do it.

With that said I'll just bide my time and wait for the game. In the end the PD team always know what they're doing.

Agreed.

That is why I don't want drifting as part of the 100% completion. Drifting is like many other sports such as figure skating for example that can only be judged by others, and as a result, it won't work well unless it is being judged as so. Perhaps there can be a drift mode in single player, but it will just give back basic info on drifts such as the angle and speed of the drift. Something just for testing purposes, and for making drift movies. The real competitions should be online, so they can be judged live by real people.

You make some points here, first off, it's not about if you recognise drfting as legitimate, the fact is it IS legitimate and thats all there is tothat matter. Your 100% right about it being there broadening the games audience and hence boosting sales. Finally, I don't expect you to keep quiet over certain issues, but don't ***** about them, you haven't yet but your comment about making a big issue over it is not really wise. Theres a difference between voicing your opinion and raising hell over it as you put it. As for Manchester, the team I support drew a match on Saturday but thats another matter reserved for the sports and fitness forums ;) .

PH33333R M3333, 1 15 50 1337, 70+ laps min U n00bs!

What kind of sad git gets off on doing 70+ laps of the same boring tracks with dumb drone opponents, I mean if your ahead after 3 laps, and thrashing the lame AI, you don't need another 67 laps to prove the point do ya. Me thinks some people just wanna sound "hardcore", ie boring.

I say 4 lap max, unless its an endurance race. I like lots of fast exciting races, not one long, drawn out dull one.

Try it with more closely-matched cars. I think some people just want to sound "softcore" i.e. lazy.

Nope, not lazy, I just wanna do more then 1 race a day, thats all. Plus going round and round and round and round etc the same track over and over just bores the crap out of me.

Hmm I hate long races in fast cars, but I love long races in slow cars, barring ones which involve the test course and a Yaris. I find it easier to improve my laptime in a slow car than a fast one, I find it's kind of hit and miss with a 1000bhp 787b or GT-0ne. Which is why I enjoy the PD cup, but I hate all those racecar races in the Pro leauge of GT3.

Err, Blah?

Improving lap times is generally easier in slower cars because you have more time to think about your lap, and also, with such little BHP, it simply becomes a matter of finding the best line and maintaining the most momentum, it's a far better test of driving prowess most of the time and a good way to learn.

As for drifting, whatever happens, happens.

If I may ask, why on Earth would you buy a racing game if you don't like racing? All racing consists of is going round the same track over and over...

I like long races - in ANY car. This is why I am the record holder in most categories for the 2 hour endurance races and Mustang Man's 100 laps of Complex String.

GT games are not meant to be easy - how would they be a challenge or indeed a simulation otherwise? They do have a dip-in section called "Arcade Mode" for lightweights though.

PD Cup and Trial 2 hour are the best two races in the game - followed by the Vitz/Yaris cup (except Test Course, which bites royally).

The Vitz Race in Professional League was fun and challenging the first time I played it, but repeating it is more of a chore. The only race that remains fun is the SR11, which is the only spot race I would even consider racing in with the Vitz.

Eliminating Vitz, or any other small car race events on the Test Course would be a great idea. Save the smaller courses for the smaller cars, but not exclusively. I hope there are smaller courses.

[/u].

Famine you have failed to mention the Roadster Enduro. This race is for stock MX5/Miata's with tyre upgrades.

Here is a race I WOULD want, followed by races I sure as hell DON'T want.

If you talk about slow cars, maybe this one will change your mind:

Mini Cup - New and old Mini Coopers are allowed in a 5 or 7 race series.

And a race from GT3 you can eliminate:

Vitz Cup. Simply because in the Pro Leauge, even my tuned car in the Pro leauge can't catch up to the others. If it is one thing I hate it's racers in cars who think they are perfect and never make mistakes. And if I'm in a series with cars that were never meant to be hotrods or race cars, why bother? Keep them out of the pros.

As far as drifing goes, I'll admit. Some love it, some loathe it. But as I said, I'm interested in learning how to drift [better]. If you like rally racing, think of drifting as off-road rallying on pavement. I tell you, it is fun to slide the car out. I love sliding the car out when I don't have to worry about tire wear. My GT-One and Honda S2000 can slide with the best of them. I can't control them very well without TCS, so I'm a little "strategic" with drifting out. But in arcade mode, the RX-7 is perfect for drifting. It's a natural. But if you don't want to have this much fun, then hey. Your call. I'm only suggesting.

Tip to JohnBM01. Try to spend more time racing rather than posting long posts here. I can beat these cars by 20-30 seconds now. Do you have them fully tuned?

Here we go again about my posts... Uncalled for.

Anyhow, yeah. I put in the money to make the the Vitz more capable. Tires, power, all that. I still dislike the cars (well, the Vitz is a nice little car), but heading off into the pros, the others race like they got engine swaps for better motors.

A race I'd probably modify is Tokyo R246 if it makes it into GT4. The thing is, 100 laps is about as long as an American Le Mans sprint race (2 hours, 45 minutes). Maybe a race just eclipsing 2 hours would be fine. 90 or 105 minutes would also work.

Only trying to help you JohnMB01. Come on admit it, you do more typing than others around here.
Do you actually prefer typing to racing?

I'm a racer till death do me part. I'm on the PS2 and the PC. I don't prefer either one over another. I race and I type. Often times, I try NOT to type so much, but since I'm so expressive and that I actually want a personality or emotion behind what I whip up on GTP, of course I have to be extrovert.

Let's try to stay with the topic before Toyomatt decides to prevent such "stickies" about my typing. So in that respect, any other races you DON'T want? I know it's "DON'T want," but it would be a maybe to include that Ultraspeed CUp from GT1. I loved bringing my 930hp 3000GT to High Speed Ring and Test Course. Of course, your car had to still handle the courses rather than ride the walls or run across the grass. And why go for a normal car race in the first place? And if you want to have normal car races, you can have short races that are no more than 3 or 5 laps (or 6 or 10 for the Super Speedway, and even then I don't want normal races there). If you're going to have a traditional tuned car race, I'd love to bring almost any car with tuning as long as it isn't race modified. Do you remember that Hard-Tuned Car contest in the first GT? You can only bring tuned cars and no race cars or special models. This is more of the idea if you want to have a tuned car race. Now, as far as car requirements go, be realistic. When I raced the "Stars and Stripes" race in Amateur mode, I know that I could only bring American cars to the dance. So why does someone pull out a Corvette C5R to the lineup? I'm saying "why does someone..." because when I raced, I think I had a Cobra R, and I noticed a full-blooded Le Mans racer on the grid. Ticked me off like the Rockets losing to the Lakers.

Well, that's it for another "don't want." And to paraphrase from CobraGT:

"The world will be a better place when post length is no longer as important than the issue at hand." STAY WITH THE FREAKING TOPIC! Now, what's next? (drinks water) I mean... yeah. Next reply, please?

I'm sure ppl don't mean any disrespect John, but it's painful to think how long your posts take to write, when sometimes I can't even bring myself to read them  Well, it's your perogative

On topic - I don't want F1 cars. As some people have pointed out, driving uber-fast cars on GT3 is hit and miss. There is simply no way you can accurately giude an F-1 car round a circuit properly in a game. Judging the turn-in point is complete luck when you're trying to drive at 200mph looking at a screen using a 2cm stick. Lemans prototypes are the way forward! They are on the upper limit of what can actually be driven properly + we get real cars, not "polyphony racers". - It suits GT much more.
Also rallying: I'm not opposed to the concept of having rallying - it's just that the rallying on GT is schit. The cars sound like vacuum cleaners wrapped in cotton wool and the physics engine and handling model is just completely unsuited to it. I'd rather they spent they're time working on parts of the game they can actually do properly.

ed- I REALLY want race modification back!!

I know this is a bit offtopic, but another reason I didn't enjoy those races, because you had to tune a racecar. Which seems kinda stupid to me seeing as most of the racecars are already tuned to their limits.

True, however I'd prefer cars to give me that feeling they can't go any faster and the normal race cars in Gt3 didn't do that for me, so I think tuning racecars should stay in.

Besides 500 bhp didn't feel all that great and even a hard tuned skyline could just put those racecars at 10 seconds each lap.......

When I see a big lump of john text, I tend to read the first few words, then the last few, and pretend that I read the middle 4000 words. Please, short and to the point, for my sanity.

Don't mean to flame you john, but, ugh, so much text, at leats break it up abit. lol

The racecars in GT4:P actually feel fast, unlike GT3's ones. When you're dashing along Fuji's main straight at 160+ in the Takata NSX it feels pretty fast.

Could be, I don't know, live in the Netherlands and don't have GT4:P have to wait another 2 weeks or so......

But I was refering to GT3 and there it sucked......

I know. I was ignoring it so that no-one else found out how much fun the race is... :D

I'd like to see those pointless Machine Tests in in the past from GT1. And I also like to add that I would really be dissapointed if PD puts drag racing on GT4, which is also pointless.

Well it'll be hard of getting rid of the Vitz Cup, because based on the previous GT4 pics that I've seen, PD will add more of those cup races like the Micra Cup, and the VW Polo Cup.

Please no, that would mean I would spend even more time on this game,

Ow wait a minute, wait a minute that's a good thing, never mind I want those cup races to stay in. Just for the fun of it.....

But PD please no Drag or Drift competitions, we already have NFS:U for that and in a while NFS:U2, Street racing Syndicate and Juiced for that!!!

Personally I'd like to see Drifting compettions than drag racing, because at least, drifting involves skill while drag racing do not.

Don't ask them not to add stuff thats actually a form of motorsport, it's stupid, it's counterproductive, especially considering KY's dream is to include ever form of car racing in the ultimate GT when possible.
