Beetles are a weird beast... Many of them have been modified in various different ways and there are quite a few races done with them nowadays in various forms including Drag, RallyX (RallyCross), banger racing and plain old circuit racing.

I've seen some very very odd looking beetles in my time!!

And of course in the olden days when Beetles were first around they were raced a lot (I think mainly cos they were one of the only affordable cars that were mass-produced a lot).

Yeah, the longer the better

It was great trying to race against myself in GT3, on each lap of the endurance races I tried to go faster than before.

250 laps around Super Speedway in a Mini is my idea is fun, so the ten lappers are warm-up for me.

Back in the 70's my Dad used to race against a Beetle powered by an Ex-Formula 1 Cosworth DFV

I meant New Beetles but anyway, yeah I know they take part in some competitions but when was the last time you saw a televised international event involving them in a true racing context? I don't think FIA mandates a Beetle World Championship.

Thank god! - they are only golfs at the end of the day!

With more strategies impelemented in GT4 (tyre wear, fuel, etc.), long races will be very much of reality.

Like to see 2 round races like in touring championships. First round for first pionts, recalculated starting positions due to result of the first round, second round for final points. Some "lighting-on-the-track" change would be more the welcomed in that case.

It is also a nice way to "sell" 50 or whatever laps race.

I'm all for it, as long as the following conditions are applied.

- No slow cars on the test course (Infact no test course)
- No stupid Ai *Prays*
- A bit more realism in the tyre wear department

In those 10 championship races, the test course was always the thorn in the side. If you try and run competitively so you can have a decent (ish) race against the ai, i'm usually dissadvantaged in the power region so the computer just blows me away from the start. Or it's either i'm too fast and I blow them away, or stay just the amount ahead so they can't slipstream. The only time i've had fun with the test course is in the arcade mode with relatively simmilar cars, it then becomes a race of drafting.

Yeah.

Someone may correct me on this, but the only time I've seen Beetles and other such cars racing actual events has been in celebrity challenges and other such short events, so perhaps a stipulation should be no longer than 10 laps for championships where the car is dictated.

There is a 24 hour race held at Snetterton, Norfolk every year, the weekend after Le Mans.

In Citroen 2CVs.

24 hours round Snetterton in a 2CV

Thats not even going to be double digit laps

Official 0-60 time for a 2CV is, if I remember correctly, 27.5 seconds!

IMO, double digit laps should only happen with enduros. 10 laps max. I mean, what's the point of doing the professional mode when you're doing 15 laps around the test course in a 300 hp car? When is too much? I think the long-lappers should only be reserved for the important races, such as GT-World Champ, Japan GT Champ., F1 cup and PDCup (all of which took me about a week to complete). Also, make more enduros. Those were my favorite part of the game.

Sometimes I wonder if there are facts in the world Famine doesn't know. Then I remind myself - there's Google.

24 hours in 2CV, I should find out about this car.

I think my faith in humanity just dropped another notch.

that 2cv is even uglier than that new morgan aero 8, i wonder ehat they were thinking when they built that thang...

Sorry, my mistake, it wasn't a DFV F1 engine, it was only a 5 litre ex-CanAm chevy engine!

Astonishingly - and I've not figured out why yet - neither Google nor Yahoo searches work on my computer. I thought it was something to do with my ISP, but then they went and merged with Yahoo!, and it STILL doesn't work...

The 24hr of Snetterton was on the news a couple of weeks back, as the comedy "and finally" story...

Eagle, that picture kind of reminds me of something I seen on FOX Sports World once. There is this series called the Uniroyal... I forgot what it was called, but the cars look like old-school Beetles with a GT wing. So on this FSW show called "Race World," there was a 25-hour (yeah, you heard right. One extra hour) Endurance at Spa-Francorchamps or Nurburgring. You may want to look around online for more on this, as I can't give you an exact name of the series.

But yeah. Looks familiar. Any more talk about double-lap races? And like I said, save the longer races for more serious race events. I mean, the Front-Drive Championship was a pain in the ass enough. I couldn't find any worthy FF cars, so I had to use my Xsara Rally Car. I like that machine. It's about the only rally car with the most intimidating engine roar.

I used the beatle for one of them, FF I think. It took me a half an hour for one race :yuck:  :dunce: 👎
