Spec options when buying supercars...

I found this the other day: http://www.ferrari.com/English/GT_Sport%20Cars/CurrentRange/599-GTO/Pages/599GTO-cc.aspx?newUrl=1&locale=en_GB&market=_USA&swf=configurator#/configure/599gto

It's page where you can customise the 599 GTO you're about to purchase ;) It's a bit of fun, but once I'd configured my car, I discovered a lack of funds in my bank. So I instantly wondered whether GT5 will let us spec these cars the way real-life customers can. Pagani, Bugatti, McLaren, and others all offer very detailed and extensive options when buying, so I think we should have them too. If I'm paying a million credits, I should be able to choose cream interior in my orange car.

ed. Seriously though:

Real good point there. Ill be impressed if they have this level of customisation, but even though it wont affect my enjoyment of the game if it didnt, i think i'd be a little disappointed if they went to all the effort of detailed modeling of interiors (stitching etc) and they didnt build interior customization into that detail. I spent a good 20 min on that site playing with the options and you never know, there might be the occasional car that is worthy of spending the time getting it just the way you want it as the manufacturer intended to allow.

One thing ive decided though, you just cant make the 599 look bad.... pretentious..yes, bad...no.

Very good idea in my opinion. I just wish that more features of GT5 such as the above would be available for us to see other than hundreds of vids of your favorite car. So far its only been Spectator Mode, Damage, and Daylight to Night along with Skidmarks which is all good but whatever PD has decided to add as special upgrade features will be an added bonus.

We can only wait and pray to our God Kaz :). I think it's a exellent idea, and Im sure it's was able in Test Drive Unlimited, so... why not?

It's all part of the experience of buying one of these things. It's been understandably difficult for PD to build the premium models piece by piece, but as GTDutch says, now that they've done it, and with the co-operation of manufacturers, trim, stitching, rev counter colour etc... should be interchangeable with the flick of a button.

It seems a bit of a waste building cars up from their component parts if we can't make good use of it! Would really be a nice feature.

Since many of us will spend a lot, if not most of the time inside our cars, being able to choose the color of the interior will be important for the overall impression. Just like it is when You buy a car in real life. Well for me as both amateur and professional motorhead (car nerd if You ask the exes) it always been...
Choosing between a few pre determined standard colors will be just fine, but a full customization program, with lots of colors and combinations for exterior and interior would be a very nice surprise.

We have seen in footage (trailers) of the 458 Italia in different interior colours with the same exterior colour (or atleast looks that way) which may point to interior fabric colour options. The Mclaren Mercedes SLR in show floor demos is fitted with a 19inch optional wheel and non supercars like the Evo X and STI have optional wheels and packages in GT5P which also hints towards purchase options in GT5.

This is already possible within certain limitations in Prologue, not on all cars but some cars the colour of the interior is different depending on which exterior colour you choose, for instance the Ferrari 599 has about 4 differently coloured interiors but far more different exterior colour options.
Would be nice to be fully able to choose the interior colour ( when available ) regardless of the exterior colour ( now it's just a pre-set combo ) although this possibility isn't always available in real life too ( a lot of mainstream manufacturers only offer a limited amount of combinations, making certain exterior/interior colour combinations impossible ) although the more exclusive brands like Ferrari will offer anything at a price.

Firstly, thanks for giving me an "excuse" to waste yet more time today :p

And secondly, yes I concur. In GT5:P, the interior colour of some cars changed with the exterior colour - it'd be nice to change things like this as we wish.

EDIT: Bah, always too slow...

It would be great to see some of the combos people will make.

There have been a few hints towards visual modifications in GT5, but the wheel options mentioned may just be a plain and simple explanation of what car we see on screen. Very much like the plethora of R32-R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R:s or the virtual buffet of Mazda FD3 RX-7:s we got to sample in earlier installments of Gran Turismo. In some cases the only visual difference were wheels wich, in most cases, could be retrofitted anyway.
The most impressive one was the the several model years of EG Honda Civics that looked and performed the same, with the exeption of different selection of exterior colors available each year.
Perhaps the answer will present itself before this weekend?

The 458 comes in 3 different reds, 2 of them look similar so it's possible they were in fact different colors with different interiors.

But have we seen the SLR without the 19" wheel option(which is funny cause 19" is the stork wheel size for that year, 18" are optional)?

I'd say personalization is very limited in Prologue. Even with the 599.
It does bug me when I can have the car I want in the right shade of red, but have to settle for beige upholstery when I want the interior black or dark grey. Not to mention the rather unfortunate silver/beige combo ...
Or when I can in fact choose between two very nice shades of brown leather in my California Spyder, but not get the one I think works best with the azzuro blue paintjob.
So The option of choosing Your own combination of colors is a serious request from my part. Well, if I bothered to send one in instead of just ventilating my thoughts here ...
The game (sorry...driving simulator) will not be ruined without this option, but it would no doubt do a lot for the driving fantasy experience. It's You and Your car the way You want it. Not a rental.

The 19" option-remark I believe refers to the wheel design applied.

For a start instead of calling it beige ( with all the negative and dull connotations ) I call it tan ( it's slightly darker and more towards light brown that beige ) but then I quite like this tan colour in combination with a dark metallic although that's just personal preference ofcourse.

I do however share your point though albeit a minor concern with most cars not having an interior at all.
Think I might even settle for yellow-ish beige, light grey or even white if it meant an interior was at least available.;)

? Have we ever seen a GT5 picture of a SLR that did not have the 19" wheel option? I was saying that PD probably picked one distinct version/option list for the car and modeled it only that way. I hope I'm wrong.

They'd have surely just have called it the "SLR McLaren" in that case then? There's no point calling it the "SLR McLaren 19" Option" if that's the only version available.

Well remember the Impreza STi 5-door 18" BBS wheel option ( or whatever it's called ) in Prologue?

Seeing as this is PD we're talking about, I wouldn't be surprised if they did it in a way that makes little sense. We have the SLR and the STI that both list wheel options in their names. We don't have the same models shown without those options as far as I can remember.

Yep, that's why I bought tons of Evoras. :D

Honeslty, that would be a nice feature, and not ballistically complex if you ask me. Sure, you want a ridiculous Lime green Zonda, with Scarlet red interior and Brown wheels? Ok, that 800,000Cr. sir. :p

I'm thinking of it from the first day I see it on Ferrari website! :)

would be cool especially to have different colour interiors. Though in some cars on prologue the interior automatically changed with the outside colour eg. tvr tuscan.

Pre-production Evo X in pre-release GT5P using regular production Evo X wheels (colour difference only).

Although when we got GT5P and the production version of the Evo X they gave us the premium package version with BBS wheels

I wonder if the premium package version will be a different car choice (like R34 has Nur M spec or Nur V spec II seperate car choices) or a optional package when you buy the car.

At minimum we know atleast PD have modelled the standard Evo X wheels.

^ What he said. Doesn't matter since Prologue didn't have a non BBS 18" wheel option Impreza model for the same year.

Me too ( the Evora I mean, think I've got 4 ), lovely car rubbish gearbox, can't wait to fit a proper one in GT5 and add some horses.;)

About that Zonda specification, if someone requisted that a banner should come up, like the one asking "are you sure?", and it should say "are you serious?" and when replied with a yes there should be a mocking sarcastic laughter added to the sound of that car each time you drove it.:D

You are right. Poor choice of word from my part.
Tan it is.
My native tounge shares the word beige, but lack a more positive charged term for these colours.
Like You I rather like tan, especially when they have that warm, natural look often found in more exclusive cars. I even like it with Ferraris brighter reds but would choose it for luxurious traveller type GT:s rather than hard core sportster ones. More Scaglietti than Fiorano, so to speak.
Plus, darker upholstery does camouflage soda stains one heck of a lot better ...💡

GT Concept had the option of different interior colours depending on the paint colour you chose for the SL55, so it's about time it's included for all cars in GT5.

I don't think they're standard Evo X wheels, either. I think the BBS ones are.

^ I don't remember, was it actually an optional choice or did it just change automatically for some exterior colours, as with GT4 and 5:P ?

It just had one red with cream hide and another with charcoal and red seats for silver paint etc. Same way as it was in GT4 for that car.

Actually, you got 4 of them because there are four different interior trims. ;)

Off topic, that car looks so awesome to me, it's simple and beautiful in every aspect, just try to forget that it is Camry powered and you'll be in love, if i had 50000 pounds I would buy a black one without even thinking twice. :O

The only color that actually makes the Zonda looks good is black in my opinion, but that ridiculous combo I've suggested would mean the same level of customization that Test Drive Unlimited allowed: Body color, interior trim and rims, that would be enough to me and frankly, it's feasible and doable, everything depends on PD's priorities, of course.
