speed 12 = crap?

does anybody else think this car is horrible? also where do i unlock the ford gt40? i have already beat the game but i dont remember where i got it the first time around.

You win the Ford GT40 race car in the final race in the MR series. As for the Speed 12 I think it's one of the best cars in the game, I can keep up with pretty much any other car in GT2 with it including the Escudo and GT-One.

Sorry, you can't drift the Speed 12. Is that why it's crap? Or is it because you need to learn how to tune and drive a car first?

Oh, and welcome to GTPlanet. Do a search, even the front page has a GT2 prize car list.

my name is more of a joke, im not into drift racing. i feel stupid that the prize car list is there, im sorry. the speed 12 is good for one thing though, after you win it you can sell it and get 500,000. so i guess im an idiot.

The Speed 12 teaches you how to drive. That's the best analogy. Or take hairpins in 3rd-4th gear, and never go lower than that!

Do a search, and there's tons of different setups for the Speed 12's suspension.

Finally! Someone's not a drifter!

Well put Pupik, it's a fantastic car, you just have to be good enough to drive it fast.

I am not a drifter :D
The Speed 12 is one of the greatest cars in the game only bad thing not enough colors.

I'm not a drifter either. I think most users here arn't drifters.

I see you later admitted you were mixing up game versions.

But anyway, you can definitely win the Red Rock race you win it from with that car even without putting that ugly-ish race mod on it. I'm not certain if I've done it with stock settings or after tweaking a little. (Probably I at least switched to the softest slicks).

Better physics engine, more races. GT3 is a better game than GT2, the only thing GT2 beats it on is the number of cars and the number of tracks, the quality of GT3 is far, far beter.

physics in GT2 is more realistic in some ways, the way cars bahve when they spin come to mind, in Gt3 they look like they're sliding on ice, in gt2 they actually body roll and twitch the way they should. imho. GT2 is hopeless in other ways though. I still think Gt1 is the best because it's the only one that had turbo lag!.

GT3 has lag but it's not noticable enough. GT2 is not more realistic than GT3 in any way though. I know what you mean about the cars spinning but it's not actually more realistic. The cars in GT3 have body roll, hw much depends on how stiff you set them and how high you set the car.

Imo the entire game is better than GT2 exept for the lower number of cars and tracks.

Man are you crazy too much acceleration is never bad its good.

Stop flooring it then. Like we said, the Speed 12 teaches you how to drive properly. If you can't handle it, your not good enough yet, practice some more, and then some more.

Acceleration could be bad sometimes, for example, tyres spinning at 4 gears is bad, when the tyres are spinning, and you need open the throttle, is waste of time, not talking about curves, you almost never had seen any race cars, like dtm, 24 le mans, cars doing smoke in straightway, like I said, tyres spinning is a waste of time. I can do my speed 12 be better, with a traction control, but I can be faster with a car with 600 hp and no spinning than a car with 800 hp and spinning like the speed 12, the car with 600 hp can be faster at the exit of the curves than the car with 800 hp, because, with the same guy controling, the control in the curve is lower than the 600 hp car.
Some day, you will see the cars with lower hp like 500 or 600 hp cars can be faster than cars with 900 or 800 hp.

I'm hardly even sorry for saying this,
what an absolute load of crap.

all other things being equal, a car with 800hp on a track where 800hp can be used for at least one moment will be faster than a car with 500hp. but the 800hp car will wheelspin everywhere!accelerators have setting between on and off you know, try using them and see how fast a car like the speed 12 can be. i can assure you, tuning it down to 500hp won't make it go faster.

The Speed 12 and the Speed 6 in GT2 are both "interesting" cars to drive.
The 6 gets unruly at the higher HP levels. (above 450) But is otherwise a blast to drive.
The Speed 12 will require some serious tuning sessions to get it into the realm of "pleasing" to drive.
It will keep the "pucker factor" high though.
I've lately been experimenting with cars that like to "over-rotate". I've found that taking some rear spring tautness out tends to plant the rear a bit more firmly, and slow that over rotation.
There are also some things you can do with the LSD.
But the easiest way to tame the 12 in GT2 is to break down and buy the Traction Control. Then play with it till you can turn without doing the whole "gyroscope thing".

I found that lowering the settings on the LSD really helps a lot, especially toning down the decelleration so it doesn't squirm too much when you brake.

I never liked the way the traction control works in GT2, it's too easy to foul up the handling of the car, and with the right settings, can be used to cheat the physics model. There's a lot of OLR's where you can't use the TCS and ASC because with the right setup, you can fly through corners without lifting.

The only long-term experimenting I did with the traction controls was with an R30 Sihouette Formula (it could run 0:58s at Red Rock Valley) and the Lotus Elise GT1. I found it the latter wasn't improved, all it did was stabilize the car in the quick stuff, but dragged the car down in the slower corners and hairpins. It made the car more unstable at times, so I ditched it.

Granted, the Speed 12 isn't crap, it just requires a steady, careful method of driving. Second-gear hairpins and corners should be taken in 3rd gear instead, for example, and you have the ability to add a racing mod for more downforce.

Try doing some runs around a track like Tahiti Road; where you never get below 3rd or gear in any modded car. The track's rarely straight, but the gentle corners and elevation make it a fun challenge. (I miss that track more than any other in GT3...)

That is bull****, if you put a skilled race driver in a Speed 12 set up right for racing and then put the same driver into a Lister Storm GT2 (600Bhp) the Speed 12 would kill the Listers time. The key to not wasting time letting the wheels spin is not to apply as much power when accelerating. Change your setings too if it's wheelspinning in 4th because a well set Speed 12 won't. Practice, and learn to respect the cars power and how to tame it and then you will find it's lap times are on par or above the best in the game.

Yeah I know that acceleration is not always good that why I posted ;)
