There'd been like 4 fatal accidents involving teenagers in 4 consectutive nights, this was the first. Now Aussie gov'ts cracking down and every teenager will have to pay for some stupid ********s mistakes. I know it's for safety but if that wankers can't drive we (Aussie teenagers) should be punished.
What do you think about everyone else being limited because of their mistakes?
I'm a teenage driver, and I already have to suffer because of other idiots my age. I was recently quoted at over $1,000 a month to pay for the insurance for a '96 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Needless to say, me and my parents were not willing to pay what is pretty much highway robbery, so I ended up selling the car, for $8,000 (Very good, considering the previous owner, my grandpa made numerous dings and scratches to the bodywork). It would have cost well over 100% of the value of the car just to insure it for a year.
Why are my rates so high might you ask? Well, first off, I live in Ontario, where the auto insurance industry is running rampant, and nobody seems able to stop them (It's even worse in Alberta though). And, I'm a 17 year old male, which instantly makes me one of the highest risk drivers on the road. Yet, I can safely say that I am a safer driver than at least half the drivers on the roads of Toronto, something my parents and my driving instructor will attest to. I've been a car guy for much of my life, and as such car ownership has been a dream of mine for sometime, yet ridiculous insurance has killed that dream for the time being.
But, I think ridiculous insurance rates for teenagers is well deserved, for the most part. I've seen lots of people my age driving, and unfortunately, it's mostly stupid people my age I see behind the wheel of motor vehicles. Unfortunately, said stupid people can't drive safely if their lives depended on it. They speed constantly, they tailgate, they don't pay attention to the road and driving, and so forth. So, at least I can see why those morons deserve a high insurance rate, but why should I be punished for the actions of others? I think it's disgusting that just because of my age and gender, insurance companies instantly assume that I'm a dangerous driver. Isn't this discrimination?
Oh yes, if insurance companies tried to charge higher rates to women just because they are women (which is pretty much what they do with men), I guarantee you the feminist groups would be all over this.
