is it possible to change the speedometer on my 88 oldsmobile cutlass supreme, from the old school look to the newer round look???

interesting question. My bro needs a new speedo for his car too - except that's because his doesn't work anymore

ya know emad that may be a slight problem, or a great excuse if you get pulled over by the cop, or depending on the cop a very bad one, i've contradicted my self too much, screw this post :grumpy: i hate it when i do this

I'd actiually like to see a new model car with a speedometer like that, those are pretty cool, they take up way too much room on the dash though

I like the little "55" on there, that's actually a nice touch. I wish most new cars highlighted common speedlimits. My G35 sure doesn't. :grumpy:

I drove a 1997-2001 Camry tonight and it only shows numbers by 20. So, 0, 20, 40, 60, etc. It's not an easy thing to adjust to; my car has it every ten.

Yep, that's the same case with mine, and I STILL haven't got used to it after a year of ownership. Even more annoying is the fact that the speedometer is then divided up into sections of 2, making it nearly impossible to drive at speed limits that end in 5. I hate leaving the needle between two little dashes...

Wait - you drive at the speed limit? Who does that!? You probably have the slowest G35 in Kentucky.

No, no, I definitely do not... I was implying that from a usability/safety standpoint the design is not good.

Agreed. Is it another Nissan-interior cost-cutting thing, or is it just poor engineering?

I dislike all analog speedometers & I seriously dislike those oldfashioned square speedometers. I've always really wanted to install a digital speedometer on my car. I could always pull one off of an S2000 if I could find one at a junkyard. I would have to somehow reshape my entire dashboard for it to really look good & that sounds like it would be very difficult to do.

Although those speedos are really tacky looking and very '80s, you would have better luck pulling one off an '80s model 300zx somewhere in a junky instead of an S2000 :)

 Yeah I like this old school Speedo really a nice great touch to the car! It would be awesmoe if the S2000 didnt have that digital Speedo!

THe s2000's is definetly one of the better digital speedos, but I think a conventional one would be alot simpler and easier to read.

You could always just get an Autometer or similar gauge and just mount it in front. In fact, it wouldn't be a horrible idea to just pull the stock one, and install an Autometer Speedo, tach, and some temps and pressures.
