SpeedTV Petition against NASCAR.

I was on the Grassroots Motorsports forums and found a new petition against SPEEDTV to reduce NASCAR programming and increase the amount of airtime other motorsports get (Such as WRC, F1, SCCA and SPEED GT/Touring Car, Grand Am, ProRally, Motorcyles, and so on and so forth).
I am in support of this petition and signed it, and I wanted to pass it on to
GTP.
It's new, just started in the past day, and seems to be growing quickly (460-someodd signatures already).

Signed. Don't get me wrong, I'm a NASCAR fan, but Speed is unwatchable. It seems like they talk more about the lives of NASCAR drivers than anything else on that channel. Where's the love for good racing like SuperGT (formerly JGTC) or DTM? Not to mention all the ALMS coverage they could have. In depth coverage of WRC would also be HUGELY appreciated.
 
By the way people talk of Speed having NASCAR on 98% of the time, I would think there's a 30-minute show about their homes and their cars...
 
Signed. I cannot stand how Speedvision (aka SpeedTV) has evolved into what it currently has. It used to have excellent programming because it covered diverse areas of racing. Now it's almost entirely NASCAR and is barely watchable in the off-season of Formula One (the primary reason I even watch SpeedTV anymore).

Ooh, not bad. I was # 92 (Ithink) when I signed this morning.

Should I move this to the Rumble Strip? It would get more attention there.

Unfortunately, online petitions are akin to spitting into the wind, and waste time like watching SpeedChannel's infomercials.

Sigh.
 
I'm sure it comes down to what contracts SpeedTV have with the various racing factions. They probably have an exclusive contract with NASCAR stipulating what air time they get. In return NASCAR probably guarentees that its sponsors will advertise on SpeedTV. The rights to air the footage of ALMS, F1 etc all cost a fortune. The money to buy this footage can only come from TV advertising. If most of this revenue comes from the NASCAR contract then obviously NASCAR will be most of what you'll see.
 
I'm sick of NASCAR and SpeedTV. Oval racing doesn't compare to F1, WRC, and SuperGT. The skill and conditioning required for NASCAR is nothing to what the other forms of drivers go though. I put my name on the petition just to say I tried in one way to save the WRC on that channel.
 
Folks, there have been numerous identical petitions since before Fox ever bought Speed years ago.
 
You realize NASCAR is the most popular form of auto racing in America right? They do it to get ratings from those fans, and trust me if no body watched the NASCAR stuff they wouldn't have it on. Just live with it.
 
I'm not signing it as I am a nascar fan and don't wish too see it taken off of speed T.V. I do agree that we don't need the reality shows, talk shows, and other ridiculous shows about nascar on their. I just want them to keep the races on there. It's the only place you can watch the truck sreies races and it is helpful when I miss a race ( any series ) I can tape it in the middle of the week when they re-air it.

I was flipping through the line up last night and noticed that BTCC was on at 4 am. I was tempted to watch it.
 
1673. I doubt this will do anything considering the status of NASCAR as a cash cow, but it's worth a shot.
 
I will bet anybody any odd-sum of cash that this will not even budge SpeedTV.

Speed is doing it for the money. As mentioned before, NASCAR = $$$. Alot of people watch NASCAR in America, therefore, it's aired the most. I don't really get into NASCAR as much as I do F1, WRC and JGTC racing (seeing as NASCAR is 99% about driving in a left hand circle). SpeedTV will continue to butthump NASCAR until they quit giving them wadloads of cash (right :rolleyes: ). I'll sign it, but it's useless.

***ing NASCAR...I even tried to watch some of the races, I PUT THE BLOODY EFFORT INTO IT...those are precious hours I will never get back....wasted...

Actually they don't smart one. :rolleyes: The truck series is exclusively on SpeedChannel. The rest is on NBC and FOX only, but they changed it to ABC, ESPN and FOX this season. And when I'm talkin about them re-airing a race its at like 11 p.m. on Wednesday night so how that efects you I don't know.
 
I love Tivo especially for SpeedTV. Aussie V8s at midnight, BTCC and DTM early in the morning. Too bad they condense every race week-end into one hour, and that they recap the entire season during the off-season.

I think it's a shame to see the way people act about hating nascar.

Just grow up and move on for god's sake.

I don't watch nascar (unless it's on at the bar).

However, I can respect other people's opinions even when I don't agree with them.

I suppose I'm one of the few people who can actually do that when it's a subject that doesn't call for the politically correct "you can have your opinion" attitude.

Fact is, there are tons of nascar fans out there and if anyone here isn't a fan of nascar then they should just ignore it.

My suggestion to every last person who signed the petition...

Sign a different petition instead.

Do you really want nascar removed just so more dirt oval track 3rd rate racing can be aired?

You should all know that removing nascar doesn't mean you will get the racing you want. :dunce:
Removing nascar will just get some other "redneck" racing put on in its place.

So, instead of wasting your time with a petition against nascar, why don't you sign a petition to get more FIA GT racing (or the racing of your choice)?

Atleast that way you can say "I suggested something" instead of "I just complained about what I didn't like without giving an alternative."

Hell, doing that might even get something accomplished without nascar being removed.
There's room for all the racing out there and getting more of the other stuff is more important to me than getting less nascar.

Oddly, this just reminds me of politics more than anything else.

It's ok to bash on the "rednecks" and it's alright to complain without suggesting alternatives... :rolleyes:

Create a "We Want More Rally and GT Racing" and I will sign it no problem. 👍
